He had it MADE in Oxford, as much as it pains me to say that. He could have earned $10 million+ for as long as he wanted. 9-10 wins and CFP appearances most years gets you a statue in the Grove.

Something seriously wrong happened last year in his brain, or maybe he was just pulling the longest con since Saban canned him.

Now, he has achieved super villain status and has a high chance of TARMAC pt. 2 if he doesn't win pretty much instantly.

Can't wait to see the mustard fly in a couple of weeks.

I’ve never seen someone who kept failing upward, then torched all that unearned good will to the ground.

Que Kiffin entering some sort of rehab/treatment center by November/December.

So true. I HATED him like 20 years ago. Before it was cool (or at least before I was on reddit and discovered it was cool). Then over his time at FAU and, mostly Ole Miss, I was tricked into thinking he had matured into an OK dude who did amusing stuff sometimes.

But nope, he's the same entitled asshat he always has been.

I am so upset that I have to root for holier than thou ass Dabo this weekend. Kiffin is a piece of crap for making me do that.

Al Davis in his senility did a lot of dumb shit with the Raiders. However, him using an overhead projector in a 45 minute presser of why Kiffin was fired was everything you needed to know about Lane. Davis called him a professional liar and a con man. Al Davis was the founder of the Lane Kiffin Hate Club

Basically what this could mean is the players won't be eligible. You have to have rosters set 24 hours before kickoff so theoretically changing a ruling even for 24 hours at this stage could cause LSU big problems. Pate broke it down on Sunday's show.

70

u/Taako_Cross Penn State Nittany Lions 17h ago edited 8h ago

Nah some Baton Rouge judge will place an injunction to allow them to play with a court date in February ‘27 to determine if they’ll be allowed to play in the 26-27 season.

They also must submit their roster 24 hours before their game, so by 7:30 tomorrow night. If they try to submit with deemed ineligible players I don't pretend to know what will happen, but probably nothing good for LSU.

Dawg, we're already back to college football. USC's backups gave up 23 points to SJSU in one quarter last weekend, and either Bill Belichick has a defense again or TCU's offense is making 2010s Kansas look competent.

Those are the sorts of things that one loves to be able to say about college football when it's back.

u/surreptitioussloth Virginia Cavaliers • Florida Gators 17h ago

What does that even state a claim for?

Getting players to pursue lawsuits over rules even if it happened wouldn’t be something for courts to get into, especially when the controversy over those rules is legitimate

50

u/BoldElDavo Virginia Cavaliers 17h ago

In its complaint, the SEC requests the court “enter a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants from violating the Conference’s First Amendment rights by compelling the Conference to associate with conduct that is contrary to the Conference’s purpose and mission.”

Frankly I don't know how this is different from the lawsuit already taking place.

26

u/surreptitioussloth Virginia Cavaliers • Florida Gators 17h ago

It’s different because it doesn’t even make sense as a lawsuit

What relief are they really asking for against lsu/kiffin? They aren’t bringing the lawsuit and do not have the power to stop it

If the state court finds the ncaa/sec rules are unlawful, whatever this lawsuit is trying to do wouldn’t get in the way of that

I’ve pursued novel legal theories, but this is just not based on legal reality as far as I can tell

Gotta feel for Lane Kiffin. Everyone’s out to get him it can’t be him that keeps getting in these situations right?

I don't understand LSU's POV at all on this. Going to extreme lengths and provoking all out war with the league over two guys who got cut in mini-camp. We're not talking about All-Americans here, and they aren't going to propel them to being a national title contender. Why was this worth it?

They are suing because LSU violated the SEC's first amendment rights. That's interesting. I don't know what I expected it to be, but it wasn't first amendment rights.

135

u/CrashB111 Alabama Crimson Tide • Iron Bowl 17h ago

First amendment rights aren't just free speech, but freedom of association. Which includes being able to set rules around membership in private organizations, like an athletic conference, so long as they aren't protected classes like race, gender, religion, etc.

By breaking SEC rules to sign these players, LSU is infringing upon the other 15 members rights to freedom of association because they all agreed to abide by the SECs rules to be part of the organization.

Any time these law suits happen im always confused by some of the filings until someone (like you!) comes in and explains it really well, then it makes perfect sense. But I guess that’s literally what a lawyer is for lol

In its complaint, the SEC requests the court “enter a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants from violating the Conference’s First Amendment rights by compelling the Conference to associate with conduct that is contrary to the Conference’s purpose and mission.”

Interesting 1st Amendment claim. I’m not really sure how being compelled to honor a contract for competition among sports is a violation of the 1st Amendment. I think the theory that because LSU is a State university that having a state run college forcing them to compete with NFL players is synonymous with compelled speech.

If this were a private university, then there would be a no claim since you could just seek another remedy.

As a CFB fan and a lawyer, this is going to be fun to watch.

Lane Kiffin has managed to get sued by his own conference BEFORE coaching a single game for his current school. This has to be some kind of record.

I try to stay away from rich people suing each other legal bullshit but does this mean a judge could issue an injunction blocking the injunction allowing NFL players to come back?

Has the answer to the NCAA’s injunction problem been more injunctions this whole time?

Link should be to the actual article and not to a post on Xitter. Here's the actual article: https://www.on3.com/news/sec-files-lawsuit-against-lsu-lane-kiffin-in-wake-of-push-to-bring-back-former-nfl-players/

The Southeastern Conference has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama against Louisiana State University and head coach Lane Kiffin, according to documents obtained by On3. LSU president Wade Rousse, athletic director Verge Ausberry and Kiffin are named defendants.

The news comes the same day as a preliminary injunction hearing in Baton Rouge, where the judge is expected to decide whether the temporary restraining order would remain in place until a trial date is set. If the injunction is granted, it would give LSU legal standing to play former Ole Miss and NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae'Quan Wright. LSU opens the 2026 season on Saturday night in a top-25 matchup against Clemson.

In its complaint, the SEC requests the court “enter a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants from violating the Conference’s First Amendment rights by compelling the Conference to associate with conduct that is contrary to the Conference’s purpose and mission.”
