Oh for fuck's sake, when will this end?!? Just rule these players ineligible and let's play some football

First thing AG said walking into court was “geaux tigers” this state is a circus

It's the 5 year rule.

For some stupid reason it excluded 2022 guys so now we're in this weird spot where these guys didn't know they had eligibility until they'd already pursued NFL careers.

We need federal legislation to overhaul CFB, because this is just one of the major problems right now.

This is the actual culprit in this shit show that no one seems to be talking about it. It’s like Regina George writing her name in the Burn Book and releasing it to watch everyone else fight and tear each other apart while no one looks her way. (Mean Girls reference)

15

u/jacquesmachina 17h ago

LSU has terrible messaging on this.

It's like they've embraced being the face of this problem.

I feel like I'm yelling into a void while everyone fights about the acute problems rather than major structural solutions we need to put in to fix this.

Considering that their football coach and both basketball coaches are fully leaning into villain status at this point, I’ve got a feeling the university truly doesn’t care about being painted as the “bad guys” if it means they might be able to win a few more games.

In a more sane timeline, the wbb storyline about recruiting a Russian player would be front page news across the country. But Lane is making sure it isn’t even the most controversial story on campus.

2

u/jacquesmachina 16h ago

I'm actually glad this is burying the Russian player story.

I know that girl would get a lot of hate when she's just a kid. No fault towards the Ukrainian player knowing that playing alongside her could be used as propaganda and opting to leave, but public opinion would definitely paint the Russian girl like she was Putin's daughter if their was any major media coverage.

I mean LSU and other schools doing this are still the culprit. Was the 5 for 5 rule poorly drafted and implemented? Yes. But it's been widely accepted for years that once a player enter the draft, he's done in college. Wasn't really an issue before NIL because they had no incentives to come back. But LSU and other schools have been repeatedly told by the NCAA, their own conferences, and other organizations during this process that bringing them back is not okay and will be prohibited. Yet they've still decided to fight it at every step. I can't imagine the competitive advantage these guys will bring (which according to some LSU fans should be 0 since they'll be second and third stringers) is worth nearly the amount of problems these programs have brought upon themselves.

u/BigWormsFather 16h ago

LSU is fighting it like they brought prime Gronk back.

u/Gumbeaux_ LSU Tigers • Chief Caddo 16h ago

“Widely accepted” is not a rule book. The rule book is the rule book. A poorly drafted rule is still a rule and I get this that is shitty and I get why people are mad but how can you get mad at someone for playing the rules presented to them.

It widely being accepted as wrong in the past is not a reasonable response

2

u/lookallama Florida Gators 15h ago

I would be shocked if there isn't somewhere in the rules about students forging their amateur status by declaring for the draft and spending time on a pro roster. The  basis of the litigation is that said rule is illegal, not that it doesn't exist.

They are quite literally doing the opposite of playing within the rules presented to them. The SEC  just voted to prohibit this (passed unanimously including LSU) and to impose penalties for violating this (which LSU abstained from voting).

My stance is that I whole heartedly agree that they should not be allowed to go back to college. It sucks particularly for them, but it is what it is. However, I also understand the nuance and that it is a unique situation for ONLY the class of 2022. It all goes back to the NCAA dragging their feet on the inevitable like always, and failing to do anything in a timely manner, just like they did with NIL. The root is still the NCAA’s lack of due diligence into the ramifications of a rule that they enacted in June, which started this set of legal dominoes. I’m not defending LSU at all in this. I was just pointing out how we got here.

3

u/lookallama Florida Gators 14h ago

Don't disagree it's the NCAAs fault. It also sucks for the players and I don't blame them for fighting for an extra year. I do blame the schools for continuing to press the issue after their conference point blank said - don't do this, it is not allowed and you will be punished. At that point you just gotta throw your hands up and move on.

2

u/les-b-n87 LSU Tigers • Corndog 14h ago

Exactly! I agree with that too. Put an end to all of this nonsense. There may be a legitimate case, but this juice is not worth the squeeze.

1

u/SharkFighter LSU Tigers • Columbia Lions 15h ago

I agree and it sucks for that class, but they're the only class that will ever get screwed by the NCAA's timing of the new 5-for-5 rule. For the good of the sport, these players need to suck it up and let it go.

14

u/dros1017 LSU Tigers 17h ago

That's exactly who this comment is aimed at haha. I'm on the side that believes local judges should have absolutely zero involvement in this.

6

u/radil LSU Tigers • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 17h ago

Unfortunately, we are way past that point. You pay athletes to play and employment law absolutely starts to apply. It's fucked up, but it's pretty clear.

0

u/Madpsu444 17h ago

Where would you like local labor law cases to be heard ??

1

u/toolatealreadyfapped LSU Tigers 10h ago

What do you want the judges to do? NOT buy a 4th vacation home?! You socialist swine. Someone has to look out for the 1%ers.

82

u/FylntCoal 17h ago

that would work if homer judges across all of college sports weren't so incompetent.

25

u/Crewman_Guy_Fleegman Ohio State Buckeyes 17h ago

Judges are right. Schools need to pay more for free agency and eligibility restrictions and can’t collude to deny fair market value for those things. That shit ain’t free

-3

u/FylntCoal 17h ago

that would apply if this was an actual professional league, and let's be honest the only reason its not is because of the "tradition " and actual laws that would need to be followed.

20

u/JX_JR Stanford Cardinal 17h ago

The players are getting paid to play. It is a professional league.

-7

u/FylntCoal 17h ago

then the players need to unionize, the issue here is that there is no possibility of that happening the way things are now.

5

u/SituationSoap Michigan Wolverines 17h ago

then the players need to unionize

You understand that the players in many states are legally forbidden from doing this, right? You're basically arguing a huge Catch-22.

0

u/FylntCoal 17h ago

thats my point, the way things are now its never going to happen. the public won't even support this, cause its "college ball". until the public understands this, it'll never happen. things will either get worse or players may end up losing a lot they've gained, and im not talking about the top dogs, im talking about the lower tier players

2

u/SituationSoap Michigan Wolverines 17h ago

thats my point, the way things are now its never going to happen

What's never going to happen?

the public won't even support this

The public won't give a shit in ten years.

0

u/FylntCoal 16h ago

the people don't a give a shit now, its just the sports people that do. you think they give a shit about this when there are a lot more things to worry about? i just find this entertaining with no dog in the fight. that's why you're here too. im just here for funsies my man.

They tried. Dartmouth basketball was well on its way to establishing a DI union, then had to pause in November 2024 when worthless stains elected a hostile orange turd who could just be bribed into attacking them

1

u/FylntCoal 17h ago

well obviously, but you and others know some people don't think logically. remember, NIL occurred post turd and before turd came back, we're now seeing when you can finally be open about things without repercussions, its wild that Saban of all people is for "save college sports" when his ass was paying players day 1 but a lot cheaper and without the fear of your player having the right to leave too whenever

11

u/BoldElDavo Virginia Cavaliers 17h ago

It applies because these players are being paid. The NCAA is riding the cute little "amateurs making NIL" line still, but we know they're not really amateurs.

1

u/SituationSoap Michigan Wolverines 17h ago

And they haven't been amateurs for decades.

3

u/binzoma Miami Hurricanes • Waterloo Warriors 16h ago

just need a fairly negotiated agreement to handle the massive amounts of revenue and share it fairly across the sport/to the labour and this all goes away

will it ever happen? no. will they stop trying to make more and more money on top of the already huge piles of money? also no

1

u/FylntCoal 16h ago

money talks at the end of the day. unfortunately things only seem to change when money is involved. until then, im just here for the show

4

u/dros1017 LSU Tigers 17h ago

Agreed. There's no reason why they should even be involved

1

u/Usual-Web7597 UCF Knights 17h ago

Never attribute to incompetence what is obviously malice

2

u/jacquesmachina 17h ago

How is it incompetent?

The current "rules" are a sham. So judges don't have a choice but to rule in favor of the players.

We need real federal legislation to fix CFB.

21

u/DiarrheaForDays Georgia Bulldogs • Sickos 17h ago

Much like our federal government, the rules of CFB only work when everyone acts in good faith

2

u/SituationSoap Michigan Wolverines 17h ago

There has not been a time during the lifespan of anyone here where everyone in CFB was acting in good faith. It's literally never existed.

What you're longing for is people pretending.

u/Cool_of_a_Took LSU Tigers 15h ago

The athletes are fighting it.

1

u/averagejoeag Texas A&M Aggies • Air Force Falcons 14h ago

Y'all recruited them and are choosing to allow them to play. Just because they are fighting it doesn't mean you have to give them a spot. Y'all are definitely culpable.

That's completely disregarding the rumors that Lane convinced them to sue.

1

u/Cool_of_a_Took LSU Tigers 14h ago

Yes, I am completely disregarding the completely baseless/nonsensical rumors.

But yes, if they are allowed to play by rule, then I don't know why we would choose not to allow them to play. It seems that when the post includes all of the other schools interested in doing this, everyone understands. But when the post is only about LSU, then people think LSU is solely responsible for the downfall of college sports. Getting a bit of whiplash here.

u/wisertime07 Clemson Tigers • The Citadel Bulldogs 17h ago

15 mins ago, you guys were all saying it's only fair to let them play.

5

u/dros1017 LSU Tigers 17h ago

Interesting to group every LSU fan together. The ones who are advocates for letting them play have been the loudest, but that doesn't mean we all believe that.

1

u/wisertime07 Clemson Tigers • The Citadel Bulldogs 17h ago

Yea, nah - that's fair I guess. But I personally haven't seen anyone with LSU flair denouncing this bs up until this thread.
