For some stupid reason it excluded 2022 guys so now we're in this weird spot where these guys didn't know they had eligibility until they'd already pursued NFL careers.

We need federal legislation to overhaul CFB, because this is just one of the major problems right now.

Considering that their football coach and both basketball coaches are fully leaning into villain status at this point, I’ve got a feeling the university truly doesn’t care about being painted as the “bad guys” if it means they might be able to win a few more games.

In a more sane timeline, the wbb storyline about recruiting a Russian player would be front page news across the country. But Lane is making sure it isn’t even the most controversial story on campus.

I'm actually glad this is burying the Russian player story.

I know that girl would get a lot of hate when she's just a kid. No fault towards the Ukrainian player knowing that playing alongside her could be used as propaganda and opting to leave, but public opinion would definitely paint the Russian girl like she was Putin's daughter if their was any major media coverage.

I mean LSU and other schools doing this are still the culprit. Was the 5 for 5 rule poorly drafted and implemented? Yes. But it's been widely accepted for years that once a player enter the draft, he's done in college. Wasn't really an issue before NIL because they had no incentives to come back. But LSU and other schools have been repeatedly told by the NCAA, their own conferences, and other organizations during this process that bringing them back is not okay and will be prohibited. Yet they've still decided to fight it at every step. I can't imagine the competitive advantage these guys will bring (which according to some LSU fans should be 0 since they'll be second and third stringers) is worth nearly the amount of problems these programs have brought upon themselves.

“Widely accepted” is not a rule book. The rule book is the rule book. A poorly drafted rule is still a rule and I get this that is shitty and I get why people are mad but how can you get mad at someone for playing the rules presented to them.

I would be shocked if there isn't somewhere in the rules about students forging their amateur status by declaring for the draft and spending time on a pro roster. The  basis of the litigation is that said rule is illegal, not that it doesn't exist. 

They are quite literally doing the opposite of playing within the rules presented to them. The SEC  just voted to prohibit this (passed unanimously including LSU) and to impose penalties for violating this (which LSU abstained from voting).

My stance is that I whole heartedly agree that they should not be allowed to go back to college. It sucks particularly for them, but it is what it is. However, I also understand the nuance and that it is a unique situation for ONLY the class of 2022. It all goes back to the NCAA dragging their feet on the inevitable like always, and failing to do anything in a timely manner, just like they did with NIL. The root is still the NCAA’s lack of due diligence into the ramifications of a rule that they enacted in June, which started this set of legal dominoes. I’m not defending LSU at all in this. I was just pointing out how we got here.

Don't disagree it's the NCAAs fault. It also sucks for the players and I don't blame them for fighting for an extra year. I do blame the schools for continuing to press the issue after their conference point blank said - don't do this, it is not allowed and you will be punished. At that point you just gotta throw your hands up and move on.

I agree and it sucks for that class, but they're the only class that will ever get screwed by the NCAA's timing of the new 5-for-5 rule. For the good of the sport, these players need to suck it up and let it go.

Unfortunately, we are way past that point. You pay athletes to play and employment law absolutely starts to apply. It's fucked up, but it's pretty clear.
