The 'panic' around Lia Thomas was about creating a target people could point at while demanding exclusion. So much of what people “know” about Lia comes from manufactured outrage and years of misinformation repeated without context.
Her swimming career was far from exceptional; she did not come close to dominating the sport and is famous for a race in which she tied for 5th and was beaten by 4 other women.
We (The Trans Advocacy and Complaints Collective (TACC)) commissioned this comic to break down the actual story.

For some context, my girlfriend and I are expecting a baby girl in December.
She is 25 weeks along and everything is going wonderful. Despite some small family drama, it’s all worked out now.
My younger brother (3.5 year age gap) has a girlfriend, we’ll call her “A”, Both of which went to the same high school as my girlfriend and I. They just graduated this past school year. Before the baby was announced to family only. And to this day, it’s still only within the family , with some exceptions, including A. So no social media posts, etc. long story short, “A” had a graduation party, in june, and this was when everything was relatively cool. We all got along as brothers and girlfriends but haven’t really hung out or were necessarily close. But considered family. A looks up to my girl, a little too much, but she doesn’t have any role models. And my girlfriend is very successful. So we normally just let it go.
Well, at the graduation party (this was early on in the pregnancy, but after we announced to family, not showing quite yet) A decided to tell her friends. Who I think forgot to consider that since we went to a relatively small school, that her friends knew of us, and also have older siblings our age. So since A decided to open her mouth to the world, the word got around quick and eventually lead to my girlfriend and I getting some messages asking if she was pregnant. We ignored them. But it wasn’t hard to find the leaky faucet. Regardless, since that was my girlfriend’s 1 and only request to everyone was to keep it between us. And A failed to do that. My girlfriend refuses to speak to her.
This is about 3 months later at this point and the baby shower is coming up. My mom says that if A isn’t invited on our behalf, my mom will invite her, and if we have a problem with that she will no longer fund the baby shower. Now I don’t care who funds it. I don’t really even need her funds. But I think this is unfair. The shower is about my girlfriend’s baby. Not about A, who’s funding it, or even me. It’s my girlfriend’s baby and the baby. I don’t really know how to navigate this now that it’s gotten pretty awkward after that conversation last night. And I can’t blame my girl because i think A was very immature and disrespectful toward our wishes.
I need some advice, maybe some other thoughts. Thanks in advance. Please let me know if I need to provide more context. Ask any questions!!
EDIT—
This isn’t entirely a money thing. I’m doing just fine. I don’t need anyone’s money. But I also won’t decline a family’s contribution in any way. I’m more or less wanted to see if it was weird of her to hold that against me.
And if I should tell her to keep her money. Or try to work through this as it is how along with the stipulations.

I had a conversation with my friend (mid 30s) about this the other day and he pointed out that he has never received a genuine apology from a woman in his life. A true apology without excusing it away.
Yes this sounds ridiculous at first but looking at my life I can't say I've experienced that either. But I'm just one dude and it's not like these kinda things happen often with men either of course!
It's a rare thing for anyone to take full accountability and it's one of the most respectable things someone can do. So really for my own mental well being I would love to hear examples of when it's happened to you with a woman. (doesn't have to be romantic)
What was that like for you? How did it happen and what was the context?
EDIT: Thank you for all the comments this was a very healing post for me.
I know we’re on Reddit but I wanted to drop this prayer for my brothers:
God, please give us the humility to recognize when we have hurt someone and the courage to take full responsibility without excuses or expecting anything in return. Please bring healing to everyone still waiting for an apology - and if it never comes, help them find peace without it. Amen. 🙏

My gf hasn’t been feeling the greatest since yesterday. It started as congestion but then said she was feeling better last night so I assumed she’d be back to normal today. She was sleeping but I had to get our puppy situated & I was kind of making some noise but it lasted no more than a couple minutes. She got up & left the room. I thought she was going to the kitchen to get water or something then some time passed so I texted her.
& let me add this, I understand she’s not feeling well. I don’t even care she went to the car to sleep. It’s the fact this has been an issue (her leaving without saying anything) that I keep telling her I don’t like. I also feel like it’s weird to leave the whole house to sleep in a car bc someone is making a little noise for a few minutes. Idk but now I feel like an asshole lmao.
EDIT: I had the bathroom light on bc I was cleaning up our puppy’s mess & was also quietly singing bc it’s a habit I have when doing something. I didn’t purposely wake my gf up. The negative/rude responses are crazy. This post wasn’t an argument to have with people about what noises I was making. It was simply asking if I was overreacting bc my gf left the house to go to our car to sleep without saying anything.
LAST EDIT: I ended up apologizing to her when she came back in the house. I understand I sound like a full blown narcissist by focusing on what bothered me instead of focusing on what bothered her & made her leave the house. Thank you for all the comments, good & bad. Definitely a learning lesson 🤍

The more we let them add unpolled items and features to the game, the more Jagex will do it. This sets a bad precedent for the future of the game.

They didn't ban calculators when they did everything for the kids. Ai is a TOOL! Using it in school is the perfect use case.
Why bother having the kids do menial and tedious tasks when ai can do it for them? It's going to be apparent that any school banning ai is going to be left behind and the luddites are going to suffer because of it
These kids are going to have a shock when they leave school and while everybody else can rely on Ai efficiently, they'll be stuck thinking and doing everything manually
it's a madness

Firstly I know I sound a wee bit cranky but I live extremely close to the fireworks that have been going off just now and other than retroactively seeing a post on Reddit and Ocean Terminal (they weren't the organiser) having made a Facebook post I'm struggling to find the actual organiser or any form of official heads up (which I'm going to assume they're not entitled to do).
I probably sound petty but I'm dealing with a dog hyperventilating and he'll be set back for weeks to even go out walking now and a proper heads up from the organiser would've been nice for me to go out of the area at the time

It has been about seven years since graduation and i have never told a single soul what i did. There was this guy, let's call him Tyler, who made my life a total living hell from freshman to senior year. He wasnt just a "mean kid" he was a genuine psychopath who targeted me because i was quiet. He tripped me in the halls, threw my backpack in the trash, and even made jokes about my mom when she was going through chemo. Everyone loved him though because he was the star of the soccer team and had that golden boy charm that teachers fall for. He had a full ride scholarship to a great state school and everything was handed to him on a silver platter.
The week of final exams senior year i decided i was done being the victim. Tyler was failing his AP History class and needed at least a B to keep his scholarship and graduate. I spent two days practicing his handwriting and i made these incredibly detailed cheat sheets on tiny scraps of paper. During the final exam i made sure to sit right behind him. About halfway through the test when the proctor was walking down the opposite aisle i "accidentally" knocked my water bottle over. In the confusion i slid the cheat sheets under his desk and kicked them just far enough so they were visible. Then i raised my hand and whispered to the teacher that i thought Tyler dropped something. He got caught red handed and because he already had a few disciplinary marks for "minor" stuff they didnt go easy on him. He got an automatic zero, got expelled two weeks before graduation, and lost his scholarship.
I saw him a few months ago when i went back to my hometown for the weekend. He was working at a local tire shop looking ten years older than he actually is and smelling like cheap cigarettes. He never went to college and his "golden boy" life basically ended that day in the gym. I know people say you should forgive and move on but honestly? Seeing him like that gave me the best feeling in the world. I thought id eventually feel guilty for basically sabotaging his entire future over high school bullshit but i dont. Every time i remember the look on his face when the principal led him out of the room i just feel this weird sense of peace. I guess some people just get what they deserve eventually.

I paid my friend TWENTY dollars to make me a new back drop for my laptop.
A WEEK, a singular WEEK and he gets back to me with this!
I’m telling him to do something with his artistic side, maybe do commissions for people, but he says “I don’t see myself drawing on a computer for a living”
Fair, I can’t and won’t force someone to follow a specific life path, but at the same time… he had me thinking this was AI, I checked and to my surprise I wasn’t conned out of $20!
What an interesting fellow

Nein, verdammt.
Politische Statements klar darstellen. Eindeutige Aussagen.
Befriedigend. Irgendwie. Aber nicht geil. Dafür viel. Man ist lange damit beschäftigt. Man zwängt es sich rein. Ist ja schließlich bezahlt.

Let's start off by stating what should be the obvious but i know someone already got the wrong idea. I don't care about Israel or the fact that it's made fun of. That is not the point and this post is not political and barely has anything to do with real life events. What I'm actually saying is that i believe that the trend of using these stupid ass images or the Israel related comments that has been around since 2021 is unbelievably unfunny (at least to me). These "Jokes" come down to this formula:
I see something I don't agree with / i don't like
Israel related comment that will get 13k likes
To me, this trend is not that different than YouTube shorts kids commenting "Bro's aura +99999999💀💀💀💀💀👹🔥🔥" or "FIX BUGROCK MAJONG" trying insanely hard to be funny by just copy pasting what other people are saying. People who use Israel "jokes" KNOW they aren't funny and can't come up with original insults or jokes so they just result to using the couple buzzwords that appeal to the larger crowd. What's the larger crowd you may ask? On YouTube shorts, it's 8 years old who are still stuck with slang used 5 years ago like rizz and aura; anywhere else (where the Israel comments thrive) the audience is mostly edgy 15 year olds or 27 year old gym bros who think eating raw meat is the secret to perfect health. These people i just mentioned, are the exact same: they see funny word that totally hasn't been used another five bajillion times without variation? They like, creating an echo chamber where everyone is just jerking each other off for saying the most repetitive nonsense buzzwords that are currently trending.
Now obviously, I don't think i need to get into the logistics of why repeating the same fucking dogshit joke over and over again is bad. If the first two times reading the "+7k" comment i may have smiled, now, the same thing just makes my eyes roll 360 degrees, which doesn't sound like anything happened, but it's actually painful.
What I'm going to say though is that the Israel jokes are arguably worse than YouTube shorts comments. The YouTube shorts comments are kind of self contained and, at their core, are totally innocent. Yes, it is unfunny to see the same bot comments saying the same stuff over and over but they're only on one platform and, most importantly, aren't exploiting a sensitive topic for likes. Israel jokes are EVERYWHERE now, inescapable almost which is insane for being about a tragedy going on as i type this rant. Imagine being in Palestine, your family across the country are fucking dying and then you turn on your phone to people unironicallly saying that this or that is "Israeli media". Are you joking??? I've watched Hazbin hotel, stranger who says Hazbin hotel is Israeli slop, and i can tell you that the series is dogshit but for an actual reason; YOU on the other hand just jump on a trend capitalizing off of suffering to farm likes because you're an attention starved hoe.
I want to end this rant by saying that I'm not anti comedy or a snowflake. I've laughed at my fair share of 9/11 jokes and I'll keep doing it but there's a reason why i laugh at it. Because 9/11 jokes are actual jokes. I don't think I'd hate this trend so much if the jokes didn't boil down to "ERM this is actually not true, therefore: ISRAEL. Checkmate"
