For me personally, as a writer, and I feel like most of the writers’ room would probably agree, this idea of willpower and overcoming fear is so different depending on where you stand. You can be terrified walking in your neighborhood every single day, and yet still you walk. And then somebody else can come in and have no fear whatsoever because they don't know what your neighborhood is like.

The ring doesn't have a priority list. after the wielder dies. It goes to the nearest person it seems as worthy

meaning it doesn't scan the entire planet and make a list of candidates and starts with the most worthy and works down the list. No.

It simply goes to the nearest person who it believes is worthy and keeps bouncing until it reaches the person that passes.

The show pretty much tells us this when the alien guardian comes down and says multiple people were traumatised and she had to be guving diamonds around.meaning yes there were multiple people before and after John Stewarts father that failed before hal Jordan who passed

This is a welcome change to me cause it makes hal Jordan worthy amount many. But doesn't mean he's the most worthy in the planet. Idk why people think the ring has a priority list .

Is Steppenwolf really that strong? Also, why were his eyes glowing? Was that some sort of a power up?

So if I’m understanding correctly:

- episode 3 makes it clear Stewarts parents believe Hal was chosen because he was white and wasn’t more qualified

- the fanbase universally believes the show is making clear that Stewart’s parents are wrong, and that people who don’t understand are media illiterate

- One of the writers of the show blatantly says the ring is sexist

- the actor who plays stewarts dad says Hal was chosen because he’s white and less qualified

One question I have however is, and maybe I missed it, where in the show does it make it clear that the Stewarts were wrong to presume Hal was less qualified and only got it because he was white ? I understand the fanbase is assuming the show is saying this because that’s what the comics says, but Im missing where the actual show makes it clear.

Also, are the writers of the show and actors media illiterate? Or maybe the fanbase is wrong ? or maybe a mix of the two?

No therapy? No trying to break out a little? I hope there is something in the next episodes. If there is not a confrontation between him and his parents about the abuse, I think it would be such a safe route.

She says two things about Hal "robbing" Jon Stewart:
First, Hal flew in to Jon's covert mission to take the terrorist to a U.S. Prison ALIVE. Now that the Russians know the U.S. was involved, Jon took the fall since it was a mission he was on paper.

Then, Hal took away Jon’s chance to reveal to his parents that he was a Green Lantern, a large moment for him.

It wasn't about Jon Senior that Hal robbed the ring from, it wasn't that Hal got the ring due to white privilege.

Episode 3 deserves to be green.

While people are discussing whether the Lantern test has some inherent racial bias or whether John's parents are right in their interpretation of why they were passed over and what POV the show is advocating for, a lot of interesting facts are getting lost.

Hal Jordan wasn't anywhere close to the ring's first choice. Laura Linney-Guardian mentions the several candidates were living with trauma after the rings selection process. Understandably, most of them were afraid during what appeared to be an alien abduction experience. They all failed the test until the ring went to Hal.

Are we to believe because his Dad died when he was young he has the fearlessness to answer No to the green floodlight orb?

The Guardian mentions that for EARTH the experience is particularly traumatic. It is likely less than an issue since aliens are probably familar with the Guardians and see it more of a call to action when it happens to them.

But Hal..... Hal is apparently built a little different. Was it his years of fighter pilot training? Or is he a special kind of reckless that is trapped in a giant space orb and says bring it on? Gardner (which we don't know his origin story yet) would have known about the experience so would have less reason to fear and John was raised for it.

The show has shown us that Hal is simultaneously brash and reckless, but also observant and smart. Is this slightly psycho trait of Hal's that made him unique enough to pass the test blindly the same reason why the Guardians seemingly don't trust him and worry about Sinsestro's influence?
