Rant AI Slop Epidemic

Post image
231 Upvotes

Recently I’ve been seeing SO many businesses (and fringe posters! Yuck!) using generative AI to promote themselves.

So I made an Instagram to name and shame because it looks like shit and makes me mad.

Feel free to send in any photos you see of AI slop around Edinburgh or add your photos here. I am sick of it! Hire a graphic designer or open up canva and figure it out.

News Edinburgh Live now Pay Per Article

Upvotes

When did Edinburgh Live introduce a subscription to read their news stories?

The journalism was next to amateurish anyway, the news wasn't really news and the news headline was normally click bait. So, bearing all that in mind, why the hell would I subscribe £49.99 a year to read this garbage?

I've never heard of this organisation before, but I agree with their message of getting the tram line built.

Question Looking to thank a good samaritan

Upvotes

Hello! I had a bike accident about 2 months ago (Tuesday July 7th around 9:15pm on the innocent railway cycle path to be exact) and I was hoping I might be able to find the guy who stayed with me and helped me get to the hospital.

I have very few details to go on as I was very concussed and couldn't see but just in case anyone heard a friend talking about finding a mashed up cyclist a while ago? I'd like to say thanks and tell him I'm doing a lot better because I was not looking my best at the time

Food and Drink Dishoom or Noto?

Upvotes

Hi all, I’m planning a date night and am between Dishoom and Noto for dinner one of the nights. I can make a reservation for Noto but I’m reading that Dishoom only takes walk-ins for 2 people past 6 and there’s usually a queue. How long is that usually and do you have to wait outside? I think we’d prefer Dishoom but I’m not keen to wait ages in potentially bad weather. Which do you recommend? Is the wait bad if we get there around 6:30/7?

Question Lesser known Venue/Event Spaces

Upvotes

Hello,

Trying to book out an event space for work. Like a full venue of a pub/club.

Imagine we have asked all the biggies like Cold Town House and Voodoo Rooms.

Anyone have any great suggestions that we might not have thought of?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for where to hire a band from?

Cheers

Social Edinburgh FromSoftware Gamers?

Hi all, I live in Edinburgh and I love playing FromSoftware games. In my life, naebody a ken gies a fuck, so to speak, so I've been thinking of starting an online community (discord server) for people based in Edinburgh who share a love for these games. Is that something anyone would be keen on joining? A place to chat and organise some games.

Cheers

P.S.: If there is one already, my bad, give us a shout!

Transport Edinburgh trams route part closed again.

Post image
11 Upvotes

Edit to add that the screen was still showing “airport” and “5 mins” so I had no reason to think the tram route was disrupted again. I was sat there waiting for a while with some other people before we all realised that it was in fact closed.

-

I saw earlier this week that the tram route had reopened and turned up to Picardy Place for my tram to the airport this afternoon, stood waiting for a bit then realised the board said that the route was closed again and only running to the airport from the West End. Ended up having to get an Uber to make my flight.

I emailed Edinburgh trams and was told to get a bus to the West End using my tram ticket, and then continue my journey on the tram from that point. I’ve responded to let them know this wasn’t an option as I had a flight to catch, as would anyone else trying to get to the airport and this is their reply.

If you’re trying to get from the city to the airport, be aware that trams routes are once again disrupted.

Is there any way to get a refund for this ticket? It’s not much, but on principle I want it back.

Property Joiner to reinstate window shutter

Hi, looking for recommendations for a good joiner in Edinburgh, ideally someone experienced with old properties & original timber shutters. Moved into an 1850s flat and it looks like the original internal window shutters are still there but have been painted/sealed shut, looking to get them carefully freed up and working again if possible. Any recs much appreciated!

Property Painting 1930s Properties Brick/Pebbledash Properties

Does anyone know much about this style of 1930s properties? I'm looking to renovate one. They are typically brick on the front and then pebbledash on the back and sides. Built around 1930s and often seem to have the bay windows and then usually a funky design around the windows.

  1. I'm wondering whether they need to be painted on the front? The property in the first pic on the left here is painted (most are) but this one on the right isn't. Not sure what type of brick that is.

  2. Just looking for more info about them in general. They are dotted around the city on a few different streets and seem to have all been built late 1930s before the second world war.

Discussion Dealing with a dog having a panic attack. Would anyone know specifically who's organised those fireworks?

Firstly I know I sound a wee bit cranky but I live extremely close to the fireworks that have been going off just now and other than retroactively seeing a post on Reddit and Ocean Terminal (they weren't the organiser) having made a Facebook post I'm struggling to find the actual organiser or any form of official heads up (which I'm going to assume they're not entitled to do).

I probably sound petty but I'm dealing with a dog hyperventilating and he'll be set back for weeks to even go out walking now and a proper heads up from the organiser would've been nice for me to go out of the area at the time

Question Where can I sell or give away two office desks quickly in Edinburgh?

Hi everyone,

I have two office desks that I need to get rid of fairly quickly. I’m happy to sell them for a reasonable price, or give them away if someone can make use of them.

I’m looking for somewhere in Edinburgh that offers local collection, as I don’t have a suitable vehicle to transport them.

Any recommendations for local businesses, charities, or organisations that might take them?

Thanks!

If you see youths with black balaclavas or face coverings riding Sur-ron or similar please report to 999 immediately with time and location.

Theft is currently rife and riders are mad

Any suspicious activity and any electric or petrol bike rider with no helmet should be filmed if possible as police need evidence

Question Call all Edinburgh makers

I’ve been practicing ceramics as a hobby for a few years now and I’m getting to the point where I’m comfortable selling some of my stuff ideally at makers markets or similar places.

Does anyone have any tips on where to start? Any markets I should apply to? Or even how to find places that take applications?

I search online but all the info that there is it’s for customers rather than vendors.

Question Contactless ATM in Edinburgh?

Hi folks,
Was wondering if anyone can help me out - I’m needing cash out of my account in the next couple of days and in a bit of a bind. Have just had to order a new card as I’ve lost mine, and can’t make it to the actual bank due to shifts. Anyone know any contactless ATMs that I can use Apple Pay to withdraw cash, other than the Salamander Place one which is currently out of service?
