Artificial Intelligence Hi Reddit, I'm Katie Paul, a Reuters journalist who unveiled Mark Zuckerberg's plan to replace Meta staff with AI — and how it imploded. AMA.
To make its workforce "AI native," Meta hatched a radical plan to slash the size of teams across the company by as much as 60% in two waves, known internally as Project OT. But staff revolted and AI agent tech didn't perform as executives had hoped — and hours before a big layoff in May, CEO Mark Zuckerberg called off planning for further cuts. Here's our special report.
I've been a reporter at Reuters for about 11 years. Before covering tech, I was based in Saudi Arabia, Syria and other spots around the Middle East.
Leading up to the Meta investigation, I broke the news of the company's May 20 layoffs, its push to capture employee mouse movements for use as AI training data and how labor organizing efforts gained momentum in response to the restructuring.
