Announcement Hey everyone - we're opening mod applications! Apply today!

Apply here!

We're looking for new mods to help with the rapidly expanding community. Our personal lives have become busier while the amount of work to do here has increased.

A lot of our general information is within the application form, but here's a short rundown of what the job entails.

  • Checking modqueue on a regular basis to take action on posts that are filtered automatically or reported by the community.

  • Regularly browsing through the subreddit and moderation of posts and comments to ensure that all community rules and guidelines are being enforced, including removing uncivil, hostile and inflammatory content.

  • Being able to discuss issues with members of the community through modmail in a professional and calm manner.

  • Contributing to discussions about moderation-related issues over Discord.

Overall, the job won't necessarily take more than an hour or two of your time per week, and if you're already generally active on Reddit and Discord then you probably won't notice a difference.

It can be quite rewarding to be able to shape a community (for the better). If this sounds like something that interests you, please apply! If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or message us through modmail.

Troubleshooting | Linux Chrome Webgpu support for older GPUs

Upvotes

I could not find a roadmap (likely does not exist) for older GPU architecture/OS combo support for Webgpu in Chrome. I am developing a webgpu terminal emulator (https://yetty.dev) that runs also in the browser (wasm), but for all the hosts I have I need to tweak the chrome://flags. If most users need to do that, the browser based version of the terminal won't be usable.

Does anyone have information about such a roadmap?

Troubleshooting | Windows is there a way to reopen a closed tab group without entering the tab in the group?

I'm using tab groups as a sort of "watch later" grouping because I've noticed that when I put a YouTube video in my actual watch later playlist it stops appearing in my recommendations and I forget to actually watch it later, however I'd like to be able to open these groups without actually opening the videos inside and accidentally having a video open for a split second and therefore either having to watch it right then and there or accidentally harm the video's performance by clicking away, is there a way to do the thing I asked in the title?

Troubleshooting | Android Can't tap open last searched on Google?

I can't open any of my last searched results as a shortcut. The only option I have when I tap them is to delete them from the search bar. Is anyone else experiencing this? I've tried deleting the widget, turning my phone on and off, restarting my phone but nothing has worked. It only started doing this very recently

Troubleshooting | Windows Chrome’s new DBSC security is breaking logins for Cloudflare WARP users

Google Chrome recently introduced a new security feature called Device Bound Session Credentials (DBSC) to stop hackers from stealing login cookies. While the idea is good, it’s have a problem for anyone using Cloudflare WARP or a VPN.

Every time Cloudflare WARP reconnects, Chrome gets confused by the sudden IP change. It assumes your account is being hijacked, panics, and instantly logs you out of your accounts.

Having to log in again and do 2FA every 10 minutes just because I’m using WARP is kinda annoying. Is there any fix for this, or are we really expected to turn off WARP completely just to stay logged in?

Troubleshooting | Mac Google Chrome "Skip to Main Content" problem

Hi everyone

I recently updated my Mac to MacOS Tahoe, and now my preferred web browser Google Chrome is unusable. I'm encountering so many problems on every page I visit. One of the biggest problems is this huge pop-up that keeps appearing on every Amazon page I go on to that says "skip to main content" and "keyboard shortcuts". I've searched everywhere in settings but I can't find a way to hide this thing. Has anyone managed to find a solution to this? Is this now permanent problem on every web browser or is it only on Chrome?

Troubleshooting | Windows Google Chrome does not Search

I’m not sure if anyone has had this problem, but when I search on Google in the address bar at the top it redirects me back to a blank chrome page. When I use the search bar it works for what is needed but this isn’t a great experience having to do that. I’ve already tried redownloading chrome, setting it as default browser, turning all extensions off/uninstallijg to ensure that there’s nothing blocking it. I’ve reset the setting as well. I am not sure if anyone knows a fix.

Discussion Chrome's a bit wrong about unsupported command-line flag

I was missing the ability to use the middle mouse button to initiate page scrolling up/down on Mac Chrome (like I was used to using on Windows Chrome). With some AI help it told me to add the command line flag:

--enable-blink-features=MiddleClickAutoscroll

It's been working wonderfully ever since.

After a recent update (152.0.7977.76), I got a bar at the top of the page content telling me I'm using an unsupported command-line flag. Stability and security will suffer.

Google doesn't quite understand what the word unsupported means because it's still working. It doesn't work without the flag, it does (still) work with the flag.

So how's that unsupported?

Discussion Chrome History Sync Question

Hi! My chrome history is moving around weirdly. Like say I open a page at 9pm and then close out of it and go to my history where I see it logged there at 9pm. Then I want to open it again at 11pm so I search it up and find, and now its logged in my history as having been opened at 11pm. But the 9pm log is gone from my history now. So now it looks like i've only visited that site once-- at 11pm.

I wanted to double check if the site I was on was the one I was on earlier, only to not even find any proof that I'd ever been on that site to begin with.

My chrome did update last night, so I'm not sure if this is a new feature or just something I've never noticed before... but it seems to defeat the purpose of a history if its always changing the old logged points like that.

Troubleshooting | Android Why doesn't Google show my recent searches in the search bar?

Hi everyone!

I recently created a new Google account specifically for formal and important things. I wanted to keep it separate from my personal/entertainment account and avoid having my main inbox filled with unnecessary emails and spam.

However, I've noticed something strange. When I click on the Google search bar, I don't see my recent searches. Instead, I only see trending searches.

I thought that my recent searches were supposed to appear first, with the trending searches below them. Is there a setting that I need to enable, or is there something wrong with my Google account?

I'm using a new Google account, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Any help would be appreciated!

Troubleshooting | Windows Tab search button is missing background

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

After Google Chrome auto-updated, I noticed that my Tab search button is missing its background, I'm not sure if this is a bug or an intended UI change. Also, I’m using an old Dark theme that isn’t available to set anymore. I set it up back in 2021 before the big UI change (which happened around 2023, if I remember correctly). Does anyone know if there's a flag to restore the old look with the background? Any help would be appreciated! (The screenshot with the New Tab page shows the new look, and the screenshot with YouTube shows the old one).

Troubleshooting | Android Why is Google's "device activity" page saying I am still signed into old devices?

I recently noticed on the following page -

https://chrome.google.com/data

that I have 141 tabs "that are currently open in Chrome on one of your devices."

I only have one device that I use and it only has a few tabs open. I currently have no "inactive tabs".

I got a new phone earlier this year though and traded in my old phone, which I do know had many open tabs when I traded it in.

I've also noticed that I can see a list of all the devices logged into my Google account by viewing this page:

https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity?continue=https%3A%2F%2Fmyaccount.google.com%2Fsecurity

That page is saying that I am still signed into my old phone that I traded in earlier this year.

When an old phone gets reset during trade in, is it not signed out of the person's Google account?

It also says I am still signed into a family member's computer, which I know I am not signed into. I did sign into that computer earlier in the year but am certain that it has since been signed out of my account. So I do not understand why the device activity page is saying I'm still signed in.

The page does say that the list is for devices that are either currently signed into my account or have been signed into my account within the past 28 days - but the old phone was traded in several months ago. And it's been well over 28 days since I signed out from that family member's computer.

Can anyone explain what is going on here?

Troubleshooting | Windows How to shrink the top bar a little bit?

I just started using the vertical tabs on Chrome, and I think the whole address bar, the icons are taking up a little more space than I'd like, so is there any way to minimize it a little bit? While I'm here is there option to make the vertical tabs auto-hide, and hover-to-show?

Discussion Locked out of my Google account for 8 days - paying customer, every official route dead-ended. What actually worked for you?

On August 26 Google put a security hold on my account. Since then the recovery flow dead-ends on every attempt, the verification option it offers is greyed out, there's no phone support, and a BBB complaint got a boilerplate rejection.

I'm a paying customer - Google One, YouTube Premium, Gemini - and my Amazon Prime bills through Google Play (renews Sept 6) and I can't manage or cancel any of it. Important bills and years of memories are sitting in an inbox I can't open.

I've filed with the IL Attorney General and the FTC, and my open support case (8-8224000041115) got an automated brush-off this morning.

If you've been through this: what actually got a human being to look at your case?

Discussion Google’s Chrome update instructions are a joke

Announce the feature, give users step-by-step instructions and those instructions don’t even get you there. How are we supposed to trust a privacy sensitive autofill feature when the rollout itself is this sloppy?

😅
