Question Anyone else in UP having trouble with their service provider?

For background, earlier today I noticed my phone wasn’t letting me make texts or calls on cell service but was telling me it had 3 bars. Eventually I was able to make calls, but after getting back to campus again my phone now cannot find a signal at all and is stuck in SOS mode. I’ve tried every hack Google gives and no luck. Now the problem is I am currently in a lecture that requires me to log into Canvas, but I am not getting the message or call for the authentication. Two other people in the class are also having issues and not receiving the texts. Is anyone else having a similar problem, or have any idea how to troubleshoot?

Discussion Do you like your primary physician?

Do you have a primary physician that you go in the rare occurrence of sickness to get their opinions and prescriptions?

Do you like him? is he a stand alone or an employee of a large business?

Why do you do or why not?

What criteria would make one good or bad? any advice may help!

recommended names or businesses in central PA are welcome, they may help us choose. It is very expensive and we thought we may do some thinking and asking around before choosing.

Question VBSC/ANSC Folks Help! Best tips for securing a VA job

Hi all!

I am a junior currently searching for a veterinary assistant position to gain more hours during school. I have worked as a veterinary assistant for summers 2025 and 2026. I have a ton of animal experience from small to large animal, exotics even.

The problem is, there seems to be no clinics who have job postings anywhere. The only one was Petco and they said I don't meet their criteria. What are your tips for seeking jobs? Calling/emailing clinics to see if there's a VA position open? I'll even take just animal care jobs. I need more hours and live in State College year round. TIA!

Discussion previous years' exams, quizzes, or practice problems for courses

we heard from several people and online places that when you're taking a class, you can get exams, quiz questions, and/or simple practice handouts to give a very good idea of what the course level is and we think it is a great method for committing to a class and eventually to use for exam preparation and practicing (probably associated text book end chapter problems is another tool but it is sometimes hard to filter what's included). Is that done at a personal level (we got some that way), or is there a system or website (official or third party) for acquiring this practice material. I know that an instructor can be asked, but I'm talking before taking a class, when you're exploring, so you can't communicate with or know instructors. Any advice would be great.

Request Off Campus recommendations

Hello,
We’re in the process of finding housing for next year.
Sharing rooms is not the end of the world…. HOWEVER…. Does anybody with experience/knowledge of the off campus housing options downtown know of anywhere that have like a separator so that you still have some sort of discreetness from the roomate you share the room with?
Like a wall or some other divider?

Also this is for 3-4 people

Discussion Clubs to join for sports journalism/media opportunities?

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anybody had any ideas of what clubs I could join on campus if I wanted to get more experience with doing sports journalism/media/broadcasting, or something around that area Since the involvement fair is now next Tuesday, Sept 8th, I have a little more time to plan with what clubs I should get involved in. I’m currently involved with the Lion 90.7 FM, but some other students talked to me about Comm Radio as well. Let me know if you’ve got anything that comes to mind! Thanks!

Question Has anyone else had graduation delayed because a required class wasn't offered? Drafting a proposal for Harrisburg.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to gather some feedback and firsthand experiences from PA college students.

A recurring issue across PA schools is students following their degree map, staying in good standing, and then finding out a mandatory prerequisite, core class, or capstone isn't being offered when they need it—or is scheduled in direct conflict with another required class. Through no fault of their own, people get pushed into an extra semester or a 5th year, getting hit with thousands in unexpected tuition and mandatory fees.

On top of that, schools love to advertise "tuition freezes" while hiking up mandatory non-instructional fees (tech fees, campus fees, etc.) that we can't opt out of.

I’m working with student advocates to take a statutory concept to the PA General Assembly Education Committees called the Higher Education Timely Graduation & Mandatory Fee Integrity Act:

Fee Parity: Caps mandatory fee increases so they can't exceed base tuition changes (if tuition is frozen, mandatory fees must be frozen too).

Fifth-Year Tuition Waiver: Requires public colleges to waive tuition/fees if a student is forced into an extra semester solely because the institution failed to schedule or offer a required course.

Lawmakers in Harrisburg care much more about real constituent data than raw online numbers. If you've been delayed by course cancellations or unexpected fee hikes, please take 60 seconds to document your experience on this intake form:

📋 Share your story / testimonial: https://forms.gle/BEKFwnCVWEMdrFgy9

If you want to support the public push and help build broader momentum, you can also sign the petition here:

✍️ Change.org Petition: https://c.org/cmz5whTg88

Would love to hear your thoughts or similar experiences in the comments. What department/major at your school is the worst with bottlenecking required classes

Request B1G We Give Blood competition has begun

You can save lives, win a free shirt, and rep Penn State by donating whole blood, red blood cells in a double red donation, or platelets before December 4 and submitting proof to We Give Blood. It just involves uploading a screenshot of your donation proof and putting your mailing address into their form. I participated last year and got a cool shirt, and have already donated this year to receive a new design. This friendly competition encourages B1G students, alumni, and fans to donate blood and save lives.

Penn State has a proud history of saving lives through blood donation. Prior to this B1G competition we challenged MSU yearly since 1994 to see which school could donate the most blood, with Penn State winning more often than not. I donated in this competition at the HUB when I was a student.

Penn State hosts 3 blood drives in the next week:

Tomorrow, September 3 | 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
Penn State HUB - Alumni Hall

September 9 | 12:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.
Penn State University Waring Commons - Waring Study Lounges

September 10 | 10:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.
PSU Smeal Business Building - Room 217

You can participate in the challenge outside of these blood drives as well, though there are no nearby donation centers.

Only 3% of eligible people donate blood despite someone needing blood every two seconds in the USA. the process is easy, pretty quick with a whole blood donation (usually under 10 minutes for the actual donation) and goes to people that need it.

I enjoy donating blood because it saves lives and the Red Cross app shows where your donation was used. I recently donated platelets for the first time. I live in Boston but my first unit helped a patient at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. A unit from my second donation went to a patient across the country in Lancaster, California.

If you are interested in donating please ask questions. I’m happy to answer any I can. I used to be afraid of needles but I now donate as often as I can for whole blood and donate platelets as my schedule allows.

Hi r/PennStateUniversity,

I'm a master's student at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, researching how people use voice assistants (Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) in everyday life.

If you're 18+, I'd really appreciate about 10 minutes of your time for this anonymous survey: https://www.1ka.si/a/d7959439

No compensation, no personal data collected beyond the survey responses. Happy to answer questions in the comments or by email (voice.assistant.research@proton.me).

Thanks so much for your help!

Discussion Online Classes for Summer Question

I'm a freshman here at PSU, working towards a Pharmacology and Toxicology degree. I want to take an online class or two over the summer so I can off-load some of my work for sophomore year. I was thinking to either take ENG 15 and/or PHYS 240 (or whatever the intro one is).

What is the best way to take an asynchronous online class for PSU? I'm an on campus resident at University Park but will go back home to VA over the summer.

Any tips or advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Question Physics 150 vs 250

Im at the Harrisburg campus and taking Phys 150. Our professor is a mess with how
he has this class laid out.

-He keeps saying 250 is the same as 150 except for a few things so a lot of our material as 250.
-He just runs through the slides while sitting at the podium and then when he asks us a problem, someone gets it wrong, and then doesn’t tell us why or says it’s a typo. This has led to multiple people including myself asking “why” and he just reads the former slide with the concept and then moves on.
-He hasn’t explained any of the lab material at all.
-He reads from the textbook and shows multiple textbook videos.
-lastly he hasn’t shown us any ways to problem solve any of these concepts and when or how to use what equations and why.
-last class he hasn’t shown us multiple equation on a slide and just said you’ll use these and multiple people again asked and he moved on.

Obviously one of the solutions here is to teach ourselves and do tutoring. Anyone here have any insight on how to approach this class week to week?

Question Is Alpha Omega a cult?

Freshman here; got invited to join Alpha Omega and have been to a few opening week events. I did some research into the club and it seems they’re a branch of the International Churches of Christ (ICOC), which is notorious for its cultish behavior.

Am curious what Penn State students have to say about this :)

Discussion Nittany place replacement student needed to terminate lease

My brother just started as a freshman in the harrisburg campus and signed the lease with Nittany Place for housing since he was on the waitlist for dorms. He got into dorms but missed the deadline to cancel the Nittany place lease. Now they need a replacement student to fill that room otherwise we will have to pay the entire term's rent.

Is anyone looking for a place to stay yet?

Where can he find other students who may need housing?

Do we have any other options?
