if you want to add the events to your calendar, download the .ics file linked here:

Shitpost Big light
I do not like the big light. Big light like sun is ok because it make gravity and we food because sun. Sun also no flashy flashy except sometime moon go before sun but dat flash slow rare. Moon also ok because moon has cheese. Big orange rectangle could power whole data center. Data center good. Palantir could build a b2 with the power used for big orange rectangle.
I say we eat the big orange rectangle. If we eat the big orange rectangle the big orange rectangle gone. We can then build data center. With data center students across uiuc can cheat more affectively in stat 100. With big data center my post read better ai make this post read English better

Sports Fuck the bright lights, but spare a "fuck you" for Josh Whitman's new speaker system as well
I live nearly 1.5 miles from campus. Prior to this year, I could faintly hear the louder bits of the gameday audio through my windows at home. I didn't mind that; in fact, I thought it was kind of fun now that I rarely go to games anymore. The new system is significantly louder. This sucks!
Josh Whitman's DIA has always favored blasting out promotions and song clips rather than letting the Marching Illini take center stage. This is bad enough on its own, but the noise level inside the stadium grew to an uncomfortable level over the past several years. When I took my daughter to her first game last year, I was stunned--literally--when Illinois scored for the first time and a fucking howitzer was fired off right in front of our horseshoe seats. (Bring back the NROTC bell!) A couple weeks ago, I drove by the stadium on Kirby with my windows down while the audio system was going and found it to be crazy loud.
I'm done going to Illini Football. Josh Whitman has one move when it comes to the gameday experience: bigger, louder, brighter, more, more, more. No thanks, you money-chasing egomaniac. Illini Hockey forever, and I'll see you all at the non-revs, too.

Other School’s response to the extreme heat
I know rules are rules but there should be exceptions. Seeing how the RA just chose to turn a blind eye on all the existing problems and choose to recite the rules without giving any helpful alternatives just makes me feel sad. 😔 Paying more than 1k every month for half a room that’s barely livable for half the time is just ridiculous, and that money doesn’t even include the right to stay in the only air conditioned room for some nights.

Other Nice place to cry in Lincoln Hall
At the top of the stairs up to the Lincoln theater balcony, there's a nice little area off to the side where no one can see you, and no one goes up there because the balcony's not usually open. Go all the way up and look for the 'Area of Rescue Assistance' sign by the elevator, sit underneath it. Sound does echo a bit so don't be sobbing, but I can certify it's a great spot to hide in when you have a panic attack mid-lecture :D
Haven't seen this one mentioned elsewhere so thought I would share. It's the stairs inside the LAS hub, if I wasn't clear. I hope your day goes better than mine!

PSA Missing pet rat?
galleryI had seen someone post here two weeks ago about seeing a rat that was friendly of this same description (grey fur with white patches) but hadn’t seen an update on their post. This rat is now on my porch! Anyone know of a missing rat of theirs or their friends?

Ongoing Events Is there anywhere safe I could stay for a while? such as temporary housing? (tl;dr ongoing flea infestation, Octave ignores and denies it)
galleryFollow up to my last post, Octave contacted me again today that they will send pest control over at around 9:30-10:00 today, but nobody ever came up. They also claimed that both their own "pest control staff" and city inspector didn't find fleas either.
I am already in talk with private lawyers. Fyi, multiple people has reached out to my about their experience with this evil company. Octave makes you sign a class action waiver if you want to house with them, and it makes sense when you see situations like mine. I will be complaining this to the proper business bureau(BBB, gov, etc) and I heavily recommend everyone to do so.
At this point there are so many fucking fleas in my apartment that I genuinely can't even sleep. I even added some pictures of the fleas I found this morning. I slept on the floor last night and the fleas still somehow found their way to me. This is genuinely up to a point where I can't tolerate it anymore. I will escalate this to legal matters but as of now, I was wondering if there are anywhere I could stay at night? like temporary housing? I'm genuinely getting bitten everywhere and I've missed so many classes now.

Chambana Questions Dark Sky Park
I wonder if our unnecessarily large new sportsball display will be visible from the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve, an official International Dark Sky Park. It's about 30 miles northeast of here, and I believe that the display faces north.
My friend and I went to football games here for years and enjoyed them. But we always commented on how poorly they used the display. Particularly for replays, which were rarely shown even after key plays. Hopefully the stupidly-large display gets put to better use than showing ads all game.

Social Seeking Asian friends to eat out with
I’m 30 year old white dude in who moved here while my wife goes to grad school. I am a big fan of authentic Chinese and Korean food but have had limited opportunities to really explore these cuisines with my own friends that are less willing to try new things.
I’ve been a few places on my own like northern cuisine, but I’m always limited to trying like one thing when I want to share a bunch of dishes.
So here’s the deal, I want to eat with you and your friends, definitely happy to contribute a round or to of drinks as well. In terms of cultural exchange, I have a big back yard with a grill and a pizza oven. We can do a classic American cook out or more authentic Italian pizza than any restaurant in CU has to offer.
EDIT: I've gotten a lot of individual responses so I started a Discord server to get together for meals in the future, message me if you want to be added and no you don't have to be Asian

Other Hit and run
My car was hit while it was parked roadside near the soccer filled and volleyball court at S Oak St & Stadium Drive yesterday, September 2, sometime between approximately 8:00–10:30 PM.
Unfortunately, whoever hit my car left the scene. If anyone was in the area during that time and saw anything — even a vehicle leaving the area, heard a crash, or has doorbell/security camera footage that might have captured something — please reach out to me.
My insurance deductible is pretty high, so any information that could help identify the vehicle or driver would mean a lot. Please message me privately if you have any information.
Thank you so much for keeping an eye out and sharing this! 🙏
