I’ve been having a terrible week. Probably one of the worst weeks of my life. My bf broke up with me because he’s scared we won’t make it through college and I have no friends, he was the one I relied on to talk to to make it through the day and now I can’t even go 15 minutes without bursting into tears. I can’t listen to music, I can’t go on social media, watch shows or do any of my hobbies because they all remind me of him. I’ve done all my homework already, there’s not much to do in welcome week. I call my mom 3 times a day. Text my friends from home as a distraction. But I just want to go home and call it quits, I can’t do this alone

This will be my first MSU game, and I have a few questions.

What time to get to the game for the student section line?

I bought a ticket off seat geek, I read that last year there were problems with people not getting in even if they bought tickets, is it possible that is still a problem?

Definitely related to question one if it is something that could be an issue.

What happened?

I’m a freshman living in on campus and I’m trying to figure out the best way to go about changing roommates/rooms. I’ve looked through some older posts on here but wanted to ask what the process is actually like, especially if anyone has done it recently.

Basically, I originally had a different roommate who I was matched with based on the housing preferences, but around a week before move in he got switched out (I was never notified or told why) and I randomly got assigned my current roommate without really being aware it was happening. I’m assuming at that point there was a pretty small pool of people to choose from, because our living preferences are pretty much complete opposites.

He's a chill dude and there isn't any beef between us. We just don't really connect or talk much and have very different ideas of what we want our room to be like. I prefer a quiet, private room without many guests and generally like having my own space. He prefers more noise/activity, likes having people over and playing instruments, and we also have pretty different preferences when it comes to things like room temperature and the overall room environment.

I know MSU recommends doing the Living Agreement and talking to your RA, but the thing is I don't really want to make him change how he wants to live either because its not really his fault either for him being swapped for my original roommate. I don't think he's doing anything wrong, and I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. We just aren't a good roommate match. Making a bunch of rules that favor what I want would probably just make him unhappy instead.

I'd honestly rather move and hopefully both of us end up with roommates who fit our lifestyles better. I'm not expecting a single or a specific building either (although a single would be preferred.) I'd be fine moving to another normal double if that's what it takes.

For anyone who's successfully changed rooms/roommates at MSU, what was the best way to go about it? Should I start with my RA, contact the Community Director, wait for the room change waitlist, try finding someone to swap with, or do multiple things at once?

Also, if your situation was just roommate incompatibility rather than a serious conflict, did MSU still work with you? How long did it take to actually move?

My thought is: can you tell us what the threat was please?? Gun violence or what? Because this was clearly some threat of violence. How are we supposed to go have our classes now when there’s this looming feeling that people not even affiliated with MSU have threats to us. It’s so upsetting. Also, violence can happen at any point in the day so why do the doors lock at 6??

I’m a community college transfer with junior standing and I’m applying to Broad this semester. I’m looking for clubs to get involved in that could help strengthen my Experiential Profile before the application is due at the end of October. I’m planning to join the Accounting Student Association, but at Sparticipation I was told they only meet about four times a semester and you need to attend four meetings/events to be considered an active member. Because of the timing, I probably won’t be able to list myself as an active member before I apply. Does anyone have recommendations for clubs that meet more frequently (weekly or every other week), are open to non-Broad students, and have little to no membership fees?
I’m especially interested in business/accounting clubs, but I’m completely open to non-business clubs too if they would provide good experience or be helpful to include on my Broad Experiential Profile/application.

Have a close relative who doesn't know what to do. Her freshman roommate, she found through Instagram, hasn't showered since move in - a week ago- & she smells. It's 90+ degrees today too & they're all sweating. Hasn't brushed their teeth much either. Room smells. Throws garbage on the floor. Killed a bug & left it on the floor.

Suitemates annoyed too bc sometimes she doesn't flush pee, leaves period blood on toilet seat, & isn't wrapping up period items (just leaves them 'open faced' in the garbage).

This roommate is now puzzled and mad no one wants to hang out with her. She has all these supplies, & is an intelligent person, she just seems to live as if she is alone. The behavior is puzzling.

There aren't any blunt friends to tell it like it is. The roommate is completely different than what she said on Instagram.

How do you say nicely, "you need to shower or no one will want to be around you."

What are odds housing will do any room swaps? She has to stay in that dorm bc it's a residential college. Does she reach out to the RA? RD? She's heard MSU Housing dgaf about this stuff. Roommate's mom?

Hello! I'm majoring in wildlife ecology and management, and I would like to broaden my opportunities by double majoring. What majors pair well with this? The only one I'm not doing is forestry as I tried that and didn't enjoy it.

so far ski club, outdoors club, water ski club, engineering, etc are all very heavy party clubs (that aren’t career oriented) which is fine sometimes, but I want to find some with normal chill (non chud) people who aren’t all about partying

edit: I specially don’t want to join career oriented clubs im looking for hobby focused clubs, but I find that the hobbies I have attract cool people, but cool people that do drink a lot. where are the cool people that don’t party (as much, I can party sometimes yk)

Owen Hall has no water

I currently use T-mobile and have used Tello (which uses T-mobile cell towers) on campus. That shit is abysmal. Cannot get good service in a lot of places like the Engineering Building and some dining halls amongst other places. I am currently planning on getting Visible by Verizon because it's cheap. What are your thoughts? What works well?

I've been seeing posts about people struggling to fit in and find a crowd and just be comfortable in a new setting/school.
I'd like to preface this post by saying I am the last person to be found on Grand River after 8pm since I'm essentially a homebody who likes to sleep by 11 (if I can)
I've heard a lot ab joining clubs, and it's a great place to find friends! I'm never going to shut down finding like-minded people who are doing similar stuff to you in a group that meets once a week.
However, I know that a lot of people show up to clubs with their friends/people they already are acquainted with, so it's hard to enter into those groups (especially if you're shy/have some social anxiety).

ANYWAY: I would like to compile a list of places I've been in that I've made friends at that may help anyone who is stuck on how to do so :D
- UpCycle Fridays at the Surplus Store
- Sitting next to someone in class and saying hi
- Healthy Spartans Events (Or any events in general)
- UAB! (Yes it's a club- It's not super big and it's VERY fun)
- Beal Garden Events
- Research Labs
- Psych Student Mentors (for any psych students who want to connect with upperclassmen)

those are the ones i know are personally more comfortable, but there are definitely other resources out there. happy friending :)

Seriously what is the deal with this class. They call it a flipped class where you teach EVERYTHING to yourself which is so odd. I’ve talked to a few ppl who say you will never see the prof and it’s only the TAs. I tried to switch out but that prof “teaches” EVERY SINGLE SECTION 🫩🫩🫩

Hey! I'm looking into education abroad for next summer, and I'm so clueless on where to start. First of all, how do low income students (or anybody without rich parents) afford this?? I have no idea where to start when it comes to funding and IDK who to ask. I can't find much info about who to ask, and my advisor wasn't very helpful. Anybody have any advice?
