Rant/Vent💚 Do NOT do the Greece spring study abroad course

I did it this past Spring Break, my advice: don’t do it.

They literally had us visit straight tourist traps. For example:
- “hot” springs where the water was actually like 80 degrees F, and the other man-made option was the only actually hot one. The entire group sat in the springs for about an hour, not even really, since it was around 60 degrees F and we began to all freeze our asses off.
- a “mountain hike to visit majestic endangered mountain goats”, where they took us to a DIFFERENT mountain with NO MOUNTAIN GOATS, and since they told us to only bring “light jackets” nobody was prepared for the 30 degree F conditions and freezing rain pelting us at the peak. What did the program leads do while we stood there for 1, 2 hours in the cold and rain? NOTHING! And it wasn’t even a hike, the people (who had us standing there for an hour in the first place waiting for their people to arrive) DROVE US up the mountain to see an abandoned monastery and then stand at the peak while they took videos for their social media, and had us watch a truffle-hunting dog hunt some truffles that WERE PLANTED BY THE PROGRAM LEADS. Not to mention they were all drinking at the top of the mountain, smoking inside the cars while we were riding with them, and proceeded to drive us back down the mountain tipsy and reckless.
- we took a guided tour of the acropolis and its museum, but the museum tour was rushed since the tour guide had to “meet a friend for coffee” so we couldn’t even walk around the museum on our own before she rushed us out; the program leads didn’t even do the tour with us.
- there was a required hike up the tallest peak in Athens, which used to be optional because it’s LITERALLY A TOURIST TRAP, THE WHOLE MOUNTAIN. And you HAVE to eat on the mountain, or somehow find other people in your program willing to walk the 1400 steps down to a café at the base of the mountain for lunch and walk back up to meet with the group. The places on the mountain we had to choose from? Two ridiculously expensive restaurants, where we saw MULTIPLE PEOPLE FROM THE STAFF OF BOTH PLACES GO TO THE RESTROOM AND WALK OUT IN THEIR UNIFORMS WITHOUT. WASHING. THEIR. HANDS. Absolutely awful. And absolutely overpriced.

- so much of the trip was driving. They said they wanted us to drive instead of fly because it was “such a unique experience” after they couldn’t fly the previous year, but all the winding roads and everything really give you motion sickness and altitude sickness. They also found out about some Greek law WHILE WE WERE DRIVING that our driver was required a certain amount of break time after a certain amount of hours driving, so instead of allowing multiple breaks they made him drive straight through to be done for the night.
- they would rush us for things “to be ready” only for the people LEADING OUR ACTIVITIES to not be ready when we arrived. Most everywhere we went we’d be sitting, waiting, waiting for so long after arriving. They said it was the “northern Greek way” but if you’re going to be “embracing the Northern Greek way” then why the hostility for our strict schedule?
- there were multiple Purdue events happening when we were there INVOLVING AG, but they didn’t have us participate. We even ran into one of the groups and they acted like they didn’t want anything to do with us! There was a symposium where Purdue students were even attending, and we didn’t go! On the agricultural study abroad FOR PURDUE!!!

There was a lot of standing-around-waiting for quite literally everything. Especially on the mountaintop, we weren’t even allowed to go down the trails much because “they might start having us do something soon”. Even when the lead for one of our programs started having a medical emergency, they didn’t think “maybe we should get the students out of here and give them space!” No, they had us hang out on the grounds for like an hour while the woman was having a STROKE.

The most memorable parts of the trip were when we had our own time to walk around the cities. The people were incredibly kind until we got to Athens, and one of the professors was on a power trip almost the whole time even when we were on our free time, and would give us dirty looks. Me especially, she would follow directly behind me whenever we did ANYTHING, made me feel really unwelcome most all of the trip, and really wish I had just spent my money going there myself so I wouldn’t have some bitch BREATHING DOWN MY NECK while I’m trying to listen about some damn historical artifact.

There is another professor that runs it who is really kind and fun to talk to, but I have a heightened sense of smell and I believe he may have some sort of Parkinson’s or something because nobody but I could smell the musky stench coming from his breath. I really wish I got to talk to him more because he seemed very sweet truly, but the scent made me sick to my stomach (again, nobody but I could smell this and I along with everyone else thought this fact was weird). Again, no diss or anything to him specifically, I just wanted to say I do not have much input on him specifically due to this fact.

Also, the entire country is super xenophobic towards Muslims and Turkish people (for those who weren’t previously aware of this) and they WILL remind you of it every chance they get, calling Istanbul “Constantinopolous” instead because they feel the country of Turkey… still belongs… to Greece... sound familiar? My advice: save your money and do something else, anything else. Most of the school-sanctioned things were either standing there waiting for people or tourist traps, and walking the cities and exploring and drinking is only fun for so long until it gets old. It sounds glamorous until you go, truly.

Rant/Vent💚 sooo uhhh times are tough for a brother like me

so yeah its pretty lonely and depressing out here. i've made a total of 0 friends ( other than my roomate? if you can even count that... ) in the 2 weeks i've been out here 🥀 seriously don't know how you guys do it. i've been introverted since day one and every time that i try to go out of my comfort zone it kind of just turns out bad... for example, went to a club call out and made a couple of "friends", got into a GC with them, then just got ignored for 3 days straight and never saw them again.

times have been so tough that i've been stalking this reddit looking for people making similar posts as this one and messaging them 😭 but they kind of just never respond.

am i cooked?

Rant/Vent💚 my bike was stolen how fried am i

i bought a bike yesterday from walmart

kept it in my apartment at all times because i didn’t have a lock yet.

today, i finally went to campus to buy a lock. i left the bike in rack next to a billion other bikes.

came back a few minutes later and that shit was just gone bro. while i was buying the fucking lock

the bike was $120 yeah nothing crazy but i’m under a crazy amount of financial stress and academic stress as a result of me being given basically a grocery list of diagnoses last week.

reported it to purdue police department and whatever, but i know im not getting that shit back.

i can’t afford a new bike and can’t walk very long due to said diagnoses, and it’s even harder in this heat.

shit just sucks man. can’t catch a break. crying in some fuckass bathroom right now and just want to rip all my hair out.

Question❓ Student Section at football games

Im a freshman (I know 💔) and going to my first football game on Friday. It was my friend’s ticket originally but he ended up not being able to go and gave it to me. My ticket says “general admission” on it, I honestly have no clue what that means. I wanna sit in the student section but idk how it works. I also wanna buy a friend a ticket to surprise them, but don’t know where I’m sitting so idk what section to buy their ticket in so that we can sit together. I know this is last minute and kind of all over the place but any help is much appreciated.

Hello everyone!! Im having a hard time choosing a major, and ive come to the conclusion of perhaps applying as an exploratory studies major here at purdue, but for those of you who applied to purdue as an exploratory studies major what was it like? In terms of either how long it took (or is taking you) to go about with a different major at purdue? PSA📰 Man on bike spit at my boyfriend and i

guys like i kid you not, i was walking with my boyfriend back from my chem lab and was kissing him goodbye (i live on campus and he's a commuter)---and this kid on a bike (tall, lenky, curly hair and likely on SOME substance) started yelling at us and biked towards us before SPITTING yes SPITTING at us 😭 he was also sweaty af so a mix of his saliva and sweat was being flung at us before he tried running us over on his bike ??? im not sure if it was because we were kissing in public (mind you its like 9:10pm and barely anyone out) or if its because we were somehow in his way but like just watch out 😭 I've already reported him to campus police but my friend who lives on campus said they've seen him around before and have chem lab with them

edit: im purdue fw!
