The NFL has a largely conservative audience, and conservatives are generally disapproving of gay people, so if they see a prominent figure acting visibly queer in any way, they're revulsed by it.

There's a video of him calling our mom to tell her he made the team, this went viral a few days ago in a good way. But now, a 10 second clip of him doing the cheer routine on the field is going viral in a bad way.

The take artists haven't actually been able to articulate why it's bad in any way, just vaguely saying "this isn't normal.......," or implying it's wrong to be gay for some reason and teasing him for it.

People are also outright lying and saying he's the first male cheerleader on the team, or even in the whole NFL. It's useless to correct this because that's not the point, the lie is intentional. A simple "shut the fuck up" suffices.

It's pretty easy to laugh this stuff off, it's random trolls getting dumb jokes off, it'll blow over in a week and conservatives will be mad at a different minority. But i'd be lying if I said it hasn't gotten under our skin.

The best/worst example: the WorldStarHipHop page posted about it but they put an AI filter over him that made him look like Bradley Cooper.

Thankfully our irl community, the actual Eagles fanbase, and the team have all been very supportive and the overall reaction has been mostly positive.

PHILADELPHIA — Saquon Barkley glanced toward the 125-page, blue paperback book titled “Chop Wood Carry Water” brought to his locker in January and considered how those words helped him during a challenging season.

“Did you read it?” he asked.

He received the book as a rookie. It didn’t register with him until his 2,000-yard campaign in 2024. He used it as a resource throughout the 2025 season.

“OK, Chapter 2 is probably my favorite,” Barkley said, referring to a chapter titled “Building Your Own House.”

“I like the training under pressure one,” he added, referencing different chapters in the book that resonate with him.

Then, he found the passage he wanted.

“The danger of comparison,” said Barkley, one season after entering NFL record books. “Comparison is stealing joy. There we go.”

Seven months later, Barkley sat in a team meeting to begin the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2026 training camp. Standing in front of the room, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni shared summer reading with the team. It was the same book — Joshua Medcalf’s 2015 self-published self-help title.

Joe DeCamara: "There was not a contract extension for Jalen Hurts. Someone said to me recently the the story of this season, other than winning, is these five words…"Jalen Hurts on the clock." Many believe it’s a make or break year for Jalen to remain the Eagles franchise quarterback. Do you agree that this is a critical year for Jalen Hurts, make or break, to remain the team’s quarterback."

Howie: "No, I don’t agree with that. I think that the bottom line for us in the positions that we’re in, and really for all our fan base, is winning football games. And all the guy does is win football games. And that includes our head coach as well. You know, and I think that for me, the barometer is winning football games. In terms of what Jalen does…he’s another guy with a tremendous track record. All he does is go out and play good football. Really excited to have him as our quarterback, excited about this season, and what we have going forward. And I know there are a lot of fan bases out there that would love the results that we’ve had with him as our starting quarterback."
