Getting excited for the season to start and I finally got around to finishing this custom. I have to admit, I’m more of a Dan Vladar fan than I am Star wars but hey, this was too easy to pass up. LFG FLYERS!

If you’re the Flyers, any Hughes trade would naturally have to include a contract extension, considering they would have to part with some future assets, at minimum. If Hughes wants a three-year extension — which would make him an unrestricted free agent in 2030, the same year as his brother, Jack, in New Jersey, would become a free agent — I would guess that would be palatable for the club. It would give them some runway to become a true contender if you assume the young players on the roster continue to progress.

As for those other guys … Thomas is not going to happen, as he was just named the captain of the St. Louis Blues. The Flyers checked in on Larkin after his trade request became public, but were told they weren’t on his list of acceptable destinations, and he might end up staying in Detroit now Steve Yzerman is gone anyway. Matthews and McDavid are interesting cases, but their futures likely depend on how the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers perform this season. Both of those teams are difficult to predict at the moment.

Does David Jiricek nail down a third-pairing/second power-play slot? How much does not being waiver-eligible impact this? It seems like he’ll be given every opportunity to succeed, right? — Frank S.

He’s going to have some competition, with Oliver Bonk, Ty Murchison and Hunter McDonald looking to make the team, too. In my chat with Tocchet earlier this week, he seemed to suggest that battle is wide open. I got the impression Murchison, in particular, left a really good impression on the coaching staff, which makes me wonder whether he has a leg up on the others. At the same time, Tocchet revealed he’s intrigued by Jiricek’s big shot on the power play, so we’ll see him get a chance there in training camp and preseason games, as you suggest.

Justin Williams began his NHL career with the Flyers (2000–2004) after being selected in the first round of the 2000 draft, recording 43 goals and 115 points in 226 regular-season games, however, his promising development was hampered by persistent injuries and the instability of adapting to three different coaches in a short span. This lack of patience led Philadelphia's management to commit one of the biggest blunders in their modern history by trading him to the Carolina Hurricanes in January 2004 in exchange for defenseman Danny Markov, a reactionary move that deprived the Flyers of the offensive surge and leadership of a player who would soon establish himself as the legendary "Mr. Game 7" and a three-time Stanley Cup champion with other franchises.

PHILADELPHIA — There is a sequence from the second round of last year’s Stanley Cup playoffs that is evidently still stuck in Philadelphia Flyers coach Rick Tocchet’s head.

In Game 3, the Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes were tied at 1. The Flyers went on the power play, only to see Carolina’s Jalen Chatfield score a short-handed goal after a Jamie Drysdale misplay. Shorty after that, though, the Hurricanes were tagged with a bench minor — giving the Flyers more than a minute on a two-man advantage, and a golden opportunity to retie the score.

It didn’t happen. The Hurricanes went on to a 4-1 win, and completed the series sweep in Game 4.

The NHL 27 soundtrack just was released, DOOP is included but ain’t talkin bout love is not. Is this a case of EA trying to make up to flyers fans for not getting the rights to the correct song, or is this a sign that the flyers are going back to DOOP this year?

Roman Čechmánek was a Czech goaltender who played for the Flyers (2000–2003), posting a spectacular regular-season record of 92–43–22, 20 shutouts, and a 1.96 goals-against average, achievements that earned him All-Star status, a Vezina Trophy finalist nomination, and team MVP honors, however, this brilliance was overshadowed by his misfortune and poor performance in the playoffs, where his numbers plummeted due to bouts of inconsistency, improbable goals allowed under high pressure, and tough consecutive series losses to Ottawa, earning him a reputation for failing to win big games before he left for the Los Angeles Kings, returned to Europe, and, tragically, passed away from natural causes at age 52 in November 2023.

Rest in peace Roman.

Walked in to Pure Hockey to get new shoulder pads for my daughter. 3 minutes left in Game 6 of Flyers/Blackhawks. Standing in line, I got to watch Niemi rob Carter all over again.

Tyson Foerster: He started last year like a man possessed. Full summer of training & I'm really hopeful we get a proper breakout.

Jamie Drysdale: he took such a massive leap in development last season. Can he take another?

Joseph Woll: I've been a big fan of this guy for a long time (live in Ontario so see lots of leaf games) & really do think we can boast one of the best tandems in the league w/him and Vladdy. Something I'm not sure I've ever been able to say as a Flyers fan lol.

I am currently trying to find a Rod Brind'Amour Jersey from the Flyers. I have a coworker who is a big Penguins fan, and I am trying to make him mad during A celebration at work when we can wear Jerseys. Does anyone know where I can get a good-quality jersey for around $100 and have it here in 3 weeks?
