[Request] Can the biggest cruise ship survive the winds and waves from the strongest hurricane ever?

Post image
382 Upvotes

The largest cruise ship (Legend of the Seas) is 365m long, 65m wide and weighs 248663 tons.

The strongest hurricane ever was hurricane Patricia in 2015 reaching sustained winds of 345 Km/h and low pressure of 872 milibars.

Edit: the ship “survives” as long as it’s not sinking. Glasses can be broken, the pools and water slides can be damaged. But the ship must not sink and engines should be working.

[Request] How much time does this “no traffic light” crossing actually save?

I’m curious how much driving time this saves overall. If you assume a driver would have a green light 50% of the time, how does the extra distance/detour compare to the time saved by not having to stop at a red light? Has anyone done the math on this?

As more balls are included how does the probability of a collision change? It gets more likely clearly, but how would you express this mathematically?

[REQUEST] How many calories would be in the "Peach's Birthday Cake" map from Mario Party

Realistically how many calories would be the total cake, obviously in the millions if not a billion? Do not take into consideration the Piranha Plants, the side cake, or the figs. Obviously its a guestimate, especially with all the different toppings and whatnot but... whatever. Daisy & Rosalina are added for scale.

[Self] I figured out the tuesday boy paradox only to realize how stupid it was

(Coming from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/theydidthemath/comments/1w5px3g/what_would_be_the_answer_to_this_interview/ )

Essentially the question is: "Someone has 2 children: at least one is a boy born on Tuesday. What is the probability that both are boys". And through some mathematical fuckery the answer is ~48%.

I will explain the ONLY way this fuckery happens:

The problem is NOT "You meet a random family who tells you at least one of their children is a boy born on tuesday, guess the gender of the other".

It's "you are a researcher finding random families with at least one boy born on Tuesday. What is the probability the family has two boys?"

How the hell is this intuitive when the original problem even attaches a name to the father in this family? How do you deduce you're in some lab??

Genuinely the stupidest fucking problem and stupidest "paradox" I've seen in my life. I just had to talk about it.

edit: old explanation was garbage

[Request] How many cats would I have to stack up on each other before they squish?

So I'm trying to figure out how many cats could fit into my 15 × 15 × 9 room, and already determined it would be about ~12,000 cats. But my next question is- would the bottom cats squish, or would it be more like being 9 feet deep in water considering the density of a cat is similar to water?
