ಠ_ಠ Received these bad parking notes on my 1st and 2nd day at a new apartment

I was confused about the first note, because stall 92 had something other than a pickup in it the first day (the notes are from 92). I parked pretty much identical the 2nd day (when I got the other 2 notes), which is shown in the picture. My bumper is against the wall. I just emailed management and told them to move me to a different spot

Damn, that sucks, buddy. I'm in the lines so... Uh... See ya.

u/Ok-Fan1202 18h ago

For real dude should just get a smaller truck instead of blaming you for parking right

81

u/Just_Flamingo9545 15h ago

I don't think they make smaller trucks anymore...they are all about the same size which is exactly too big.

57

u/JimmyGymGym1 13h ago

The small trucks today were full size trucks two decades ago.

It's so hard to find reasonably sized vehicles anymore. Almost everything is just getting bigger and bigger.

15

u/ErikWolfe 11h ago

That's because emissions standards are based on the vehicle's size and bigger = needs lower minimum gas mileage in the US

I'm in the lines

The OP isn't merely in the lines -- they're as perfectly centered in the lines as anybody has ever been centered in the lines before in the history of parking.

47

u/Grab3tto 15h ago

OP may even be slightly closer to spot 90 already, more than enough compensation for this guy in 92 to get his ego out of the truck.

And this person has the world’s smallest car, a Yaris. Can’t wait until management moves their spot and the replacement also drives a pickup truck or van.

80

u/DatRat13 17h ago

If management has any balls they'll make the pickup pay for a second spot to nip that entitlement in the bud.

People are fucking weirdos with parking. My neighbors park their trucks in a clearly labeled FIRE LANE red painted DO NOT PARK WE'LL TOW YO ASS area. For months. I never said anything until they blocked my driveway and moved my garbage cans. Then suddenly I'm an unreasonable dickhead.

We got garages in our houses. We have driveways for 2 cars each. We got visitor lots just down the block. Idk man.

This exactly and I have a feeling he keeps that spot unoccupied by sending these “nice” post its every day until the recipient gets creeped out and requests to move.

not only is their truck too big, they basically want half the spot next to them for free.

Exactly. That is precisely what OP’s neighbor thinks. The entitlement of some people is so frustrating at times.

1.1k

u/Triedbutflailed 19h ago

Thinking they somehow have a right to more space than others is universal with every big truck owner I've ever met

864

u/username__0000 19h ago

It breaks their brain if you tell them “if you don’t fit in the space, it’s your job to figure out somewhere else to park. You brought this oversized monstrosity, it’s your problem to solve”

274

u/OkNeedleworker11 18h ago

I’ve literally told someone at my old complex, hey these parking spots were built before your truck was even conceived as a thought.… Just a thought maybe you should consider that when realizing you’re not gonna fit. The street has some wider parking spaces. Just make sure you don’t leave any of your nice stuff in it and probably put a club lock on it! Never can be too safe 😄.
I like using the even conceived one for some reason it makes me laugh, and it usually confuses other people for a minute

152

u/TheS4ndm4n 18h ago

Some people really suck at the game where you have to put blocks through a hole (or all in the square hole). Those people also drive.

32

u/SiRocket 17h ago

I had three specific coworkers who apparently (I don't take the highway, so secondhand discussion) would do triple digits every single day. Apparently the cops got enough irate calls that they finally set up a speed trap last month that scooped them up (along with a few others). If it's that consistent it may be worth calling every day till they do the same?

Also very common that the people who really shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel, buy trucks because it makes them feel safer.

49

u/It_stimefortea 18h ago

My dad taught me how to parallel park in a pick up truck with an obscured back windshield. While I'm grateful for it because I'm now the GOAT at parallel parking, I HATED every second of controlling a vehicle that big.

I had to manage a giant Escalade or something equally large in LA when they messed up at the rental car place and they didn't have any little cars (like I reserved) left. I white-knuckled that wheel for the entire day I had to drive it.

16

u/elebrin 16h ago

Honestly, I think every time someone buys a new car, they should be required to pass a road skills test in it before they can register and insure it. Look, if you got your license in a Prius and now you want to drive a F-150, then you need to demonstrate that you can park it and drive it according to the laws.

It's less of an issue now, but in the 90s I remember kids my age getting hand-me-down cars that were manual transmission... that they couldn't drive. You'd see them rolling back into people. Like... you should need to show me that you can hill start without any rollback (using any method, I don't care if you use the handbrake).

61

u/imnickelhead 19h ago

I have owned several trucks and am always an incredibly polite parker. I always park further away and find a pull through spot so nobody has to wait for me to backup.

70

u/Kage_0ni 19h ago

I think your truck is broken if you're not constantly feeling entitled to other people's space. I'm pretty sure that's part of the standard package.

44

u/Dramatic-Original-79 19h ago

There is a difference between people who own trucks because they need them for usual truck use purposes, and douche truck owners, who are, in fact, douches... unfortunately the latter outweigh the former nowadays

69

Big trucks for big truck jobs. It think giant vehicles need a special permit they are a waste in a society

33

u/Secure-Researcher892 18h ago

The irony is the federal government's regulation are the reason you have big trucks and the reason the manufacturers stopped making small trucks. The mpg requirements are based on dumb ass formulas that would require small trucks to get a mpg rating that isn't possible to reach while allowing big trucks to get way worse mpg and still pass the government regs. If they changed the formula that give bigger trucks a break this wouldn't happen. Most of the truck owners I know would rather have one of the smaller one but they aren't available anymore.

7

u/Charmander324 16h ago edited 14h ago

The problem is with the way they've defined light trucks; SUVs fall under that category as well and they (generally) have no trouble meeting the MPG requirements. All they'd have to do is add a carve-out for actual light trucks and classify the SUVs as passenger cars the way they ought to. Two birds with one stone -- it'll discourage people from buying those oversize monstrosities to daily-drive and bring smaller, more efficient alternatives to the market.

As for the ridiculously huge pickups, they ought to pay a tax based on mileage every year or so because they get horrible gas mileage, go through tires quickly, cause more road wear than smaller vehicles, and aren't actually all that good as utility vehicles (most people who use them for actual work would be equally well-served by a cargo van).

I’ve a friend living in a place with this kind of issue. He told me the truck has to do like a 15 point turn to wiggle it into and out of his spot, but he does it and doesn’t complain to anyone about it.

138

u/MyFavoriteVoice 19h ago

Realistically a truck should be backed into any tight spots. Trucks struggle with tight corners due to the wheelbase, unless you steer with the rear wheels (by reversing, making the front wheels the rear ones).

59

u/redlegsforever 19h ago

Always back truck into parking spot.

13

u/BB-41 19h ago

I usually back my car into parking spots. Never know what might be creating potential challenges when you go to leave (crowds, weather, other vehicles, etc.) We also had three Suburbans in the family so backing in was the norm especially since backup cameras didn’t exist back then.

9

u/redlegsforever 19h ago

34

u/TerrorFromThePeeps 19h ago

I think part of the problem is just that so many people these days have almost no experience with rear wheel drives as well as fwd and awd. If you grew up at a certain time, you almost certainly have a good bit of experience with rwd and fwd. Which means you have an inherent feel for how they move at low speeds and into limited space. That makes it a lot easier to move into a truck. Big pickups are not a great place to learn the physical handling of a rwd. I also know for sure that there is a tendency for people who only have a truck AND are skittish with parking to almost always look for a space with empties on either side, or to pull through into the one ahead, meaning they wind up in a reversed in position... but without actually practicing it. All the foibles of rwd are magnified with a pickup, and then all the problems of parking in a space are magnified in a tight parking deck.

All that to say, i agree, this needs to be backed in for this, but i suspect truck owner needs to go out on the weekend to some closed office park with some orange cones and practice.

18

u/That-1-Red-Shirt 17h ago

My dad MADE me learn to drive on the Ram 3500 dually from an era well before backup cameras. I can figuratively park an elephant in a fucking dog house now.

I had a pick up truck, I drove my dads super duty pickup truck sometimes. We drove my pickup to drop off my cousin in college at DC, my uncle parked like it was nothing when unloading her luggage, all the people helping unload kept saying they hadn’t seen that confidence all day. I’m 5 feet flat and parked in the tiny parking garage spots like it was nothing. This person doesn’t know how to drive a pick up basically.

There was a truck that parked in a spot close to the entrance of the parking garage. He wasn’t paying for a spot but there were a few vacant apartments so I let it go. Couple months go by and those vacancy’s filled and his ability to park should have stopped. But he didn’t. He then tried to report me to management for being in his spot. They turned around and asked why he wasn’t paying for it then. He huffed and puffed. Never was upset with me. Well eventually he did start parking under because he has a lot of tools and welding equipment and he didn’t wanna leave it out in the open. Well two weeks ago, ge removed all of his equipment to have his truck detailed or something and when trying to leave peeled back the entirety of his roof. The extra weight had made it so he just barely made it. He was not happy, management wasn’t happy, but the tow truck guy was ecstatic lol

Edit: I did the math and that is likely a compact spot. Cinder block is 16in on the face. You can count 5 in view with 6 being there in the lines. 8ft at most being generous from outside line edge to line edge.

OP, if you haven’t already, you need to provide management with this photo of how you were parked at the time the notes were left - leaving you notes as though you’re parked wrong repeatedly when you are clearly NOT parked wrong could be construed as trying to threaten you out of your spot, this person’s behavior is waaaaaay over the line of trying to bully you.

You should absolutely not have to move if this is how you are parking, the person in 92 needs to move if he can’t park with you parked dead between the lines.

204

u/jlandejr 18h ago

I did actually share the picture of how I was parked with management! But not the notes that were left. I just told them I was doing the best I could but it wasnt enough for 92, so either I needed a new spot or they needed a spot that worked better for a truck. They gave me a new spot

289

u/saffireaz 18h ago

This is an unsatisfying solution, because instead of mgmt telling 92 to suck it up or get a smaller vehicle, they co-sign the bullying and leave it for the next person to suffer.

155

u/jlandejr 17h ago

True, I did leave the problem for someone else but the way I figured is if someone else also got notes from this person, management would likely get involved with the truck owner. Or maybe they would be more confrontational than I am. I wasnt going to make a big deal when I could just deal with it and move on, especially as I had literally just moved in. And people are fucking crazy

137

u/saffireaz 17h ago

Please understand, I'm not blaming you, I'm blaming the management for being passive.

They’re shit out of luck. Looks like a compact spot based on the size of the Yaris. These spots won’t accommodate a full size truck. I would take the notes to management and ask them to deal with the problem parker.

Some of those trucks, used as commuters and not work trucks, stuns me. Like you can't even see over the hood if you are standing on the ground. Massive ... why?

46

u/johnqdriveway 17h ago

I used to work with a guy that bought a giant RAM truck to drive to his desk job 45 minutes each way. He was bragging about the deal he got and I asked why he signed an 8-year loan for a $70k work truck. His reply: "SUVs are for soccer moms."

20

u/Ancient-Substance-38 16h ago

It's larping as a farmer or a hard working man. They idolize being a soldier, country boy or a construction worker. Jobs where you sweat and get dirty, have a chance of injury or death. These things make them feel more like real man, its part mid life crisis and status symbol driven.

But they themselves know those jobs don't pay shit. But their insecurities about their comfortable lives drives them to try and be those people even though they are not.

I wonder if spot 92 is the last spot before the wall, and there’s no way a larger vehicle could fit into that last spot if #91 has a vehicle parked in it.

If this is the case, it might make sense to just swap spots. OP parks in 92, and note guy parks in 91.

281

u/PiersPlays 20h ago

I once had a situation like this. I'd have happily offered to switch spots but they came into it being rude and demanding and trying to throw their weight around. So I just asserted that I was not willing to put myself out for someone who treated me that way and let them get on with being miserable. Bullies like this can only be dealt with by firmly but calmly drawing your boundaries and refusing to let them trample them unchallenged.

55

u/GhostBeefSandwich 19h ago

This guy wants both spots but to pay for only one, and won't stop until someone stands up to him or OP moves and gives up.

You can see the top of the other line separating 92 presumably from 93

52

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead 20h ago

You don't paint a white line if there's a wall there. That's for sure.

16

u/oktimeforplanz 19h ago

It could have a pillar near the start of the space, I suppose. But that wouldn't prevent someone competent from parking there unless their vehicle is truly just too big for the space available to them, since the pillar wouldn't prevent the door opening once the vehicle is actually parked.

I assume the truck driver also just isn't capable of reverse parking. Much easier to park in reverse when there's vehicles (or a wall) beside the space than it is to drive in nose first.

27

u/Great_Hambino2022 19h ago

There’s no wall. You can see the line for spot 93. The guy just has a big truck and a little peen

Id be petty and also tell management that you're getting harassed by the person who parks in 92. If they have a problem with the way you park, they should be the ones reaching out to management. This is harassment.

213

u/stickyplants 20h ago

That’s not even being petty. That’s just the way that makes sense. He even said to talk to management 🤷🏻‍♂️. Show the notes and a picture of how it’s parked.

32

u/5138008RG00D 20h ago

You know the note saying go talk to management. And the fact this is a multi-day thing but we are only seeing i pic of a perfectly parked car.

Makes me wonder if management already has copy of notes and pics from ALL the days.

Yeah. That truck driver is being an ass. The situation really reads like he was able to enjoy not having you parked there fir a while and got used to not having to deal with the soace being tight. Then you moved in, he now has to live with the consequences of having a truck in a parking garage, and now hes trying to make it your problem.

If you were parked like shit and over the line I'd get it but you're parked perfectly fine. That truck driver needs to get a new spot from mgmt.

I'd park as close to the line on his side without going over.

96

u/FromTheForestFox 20h ago

That’s great in theory. I did that once and even videoed the old lady scraping the side of my Honda, but the police couldn’t use the video to start a police report for a claim. It was an insanely frustrating situation

Did you get your insurance to chase her down? Lawyering up in those situations is part of what you pay car insurance for. They should've gave paid your claim and gone after her insurance for recompense.

9

u/hitometootoo 19h ago

They don't even need to go through insurance or get a lawyer. File a civil suit for $20 and take a few hours out of your day to go to court. OP just didn't want to be bothered.

7

u/J-ss96 19h ago

I've noticed the police can be very useless in these situations. Your insurance company should be more helpful. If they aren't you can look for a new agent in the same company.

Hopefully I'm never in this situation again, but last time someone hit my car they lied about stopping & the police officer was new apparently & didn't look at what was obviously a one sided collision & didn't issue any tickets or find anyone at fault. Thankfully after I talked to both of our insurance company agents they were able to figure out what happened & hold the other driver accountable. That's why I think insurance companies can be more helpful than the police. I have Progressive. They are kind of expensive if I'm being honest but they got me out of a few tight spots so I'm sticking w/ them 🤷🏽‍♀️

Full-size trucks are so big now, anyone buying them needs to just accept that they are not going to fit in a lot of places well. This is why I bought a mid-size truck. I probably do far more "truck stuff" than most full-size truck owners, people just think they need the biggest vehicle on the road then bitch and blame someone else when their decision becomes their own inconvenience.

My assumptions:

  1. If you park like that each time, you are NOT the problem here

  2. Truck bro probably has a truck that’s way too big for his allotted parking spot (which even stock full size trucks nowadays are too big for their own good) so he probably doesn’t know how to properly park his truck. Never mind the fact these big trucks and SUVs nowadays have 360 cameras to make parking easier

  3. He’s trying to intimidate you so he can freely encroach on your space due to his inferior parking abilities

Report to building management. They can take action, whatever that may be, since truck bro outted himself as the owner of spot number 92

30

u/NatterinNabob 20h ago

Yeah, I have lived near insane people before. It sucks. Sorry you are having to deal with this.

Response note:

“Lots of people don’t know how to handle big trucks - it’s nothing to be ashamed of. A Prius is probably more the size you can handle.”

26

u/lavamunky 18h ago

If he bought a truck so large it doesn’t fit in a spot properly, he should park it on the street. Sucks for him? Yes. Necessary given an oversized vehicle? Yes.
It would be like demanding somebody not park behind you on a back-facing spot because they drive a stretch limo

8

u/LatexSmokeCats 18h ago

Some of these truck drivers are just a$$holes making up for something else they are lacking. On many occasions, I've seen them park in compact spots with their huge trunks sticking out.

12

u/12Cheerios 20h ago

"dear truck driver, 90yr old grandmother can park a 747 in a swimming pool and not complain about it. Please speak to management, ty"

11

u/Rolling_Beardo 19h ago

There’s only 3 possibilities here. First, they just can’t park for shit. Second, the truck is too big for the spot and it’s never going to fit the way they want. Or you could be lying for those sweet sweet internet points. Personally I think it’s the second reason with a side helping of being a shit parker.

→ More replies (3)

9

u/_visiblemode_ 18h ago

That person is just a polite bully. It’s not your fault or responsibility they bought an oversized vehicle. They probably never even use it for hauling anything. Most large truck owners could easily get away with owning a small car.

You shouldn't be asking for a new spot, as it means that person wins. They clearly suck at parking, and I can bet they're trying to back in cause pulling straight in is SUCH a chore.

If they can't fit there, then they need to get a smaller vehicle. I'm betting that their truck is a pavement princess, and has never hauled anything more than shopping bags and suitcases (maybe on the suitcases). I honestly would try to catch a photo of their parking job, and leave them a print off of their shitty attempt at parking with a note telling them to stop leaving trash on my car blaming me because they suck at parking.

They are used to no one being there and they have a big truck. That's their problem. Tell the next time they leave a note on your car, you're going to management. That or ignore it, they can't do anything about it.

8

u/cr0ft 3h ago

"I can't park my pickup..." I'd bet a million bucks the a-hole complaining has a truck the size of a building that he wants to wedge into a normal sized parking space and is entitled as all hell.

America needs to do something about the truck/SUV plague. It's a genuine major and growing problem. See These Stupid Trucks are Literally Killing Us | Not Just Bikes, Youtube for instance.

22

u/Lowly-Worm_ 20h ago

Honestly I'd outline the parking lines on either side of your car with bright sidewalk chalk. Maybe this dumbfuck is blind.

7

u/M27TN 20h ago

So what they really mean to say is kindly encroach on 90 since I have a massive pick up

8

u/appa-ate-momo Bluegrass 20h ago

His choice to purchase a large vehicle and his inability to maneuver it are not your problems to solve.

I cannot fucking stand people who expect everyone else to make up for their ineptitude.

8

u/Over-Creme-5508 18h ago

I park a smaller vehicle between designated spots rented by truck people and run in to similar problems. Once had a driver complain he couldn’t open his doors if my vehicle was in the spot. And I was completely between the lines. It’s a mixture of some vehicles being too large for older parking spaces, people being large and some people driving vehicles they can’t properly park.

Honestly I hate this shit. If you drive a truck and can’t park this is a you problem. Park further away or lobby your building or management company to create “truck” parking

7

u/LoopyAthlete 9h ago

In my experience - people who own trucks dont know how to drive or park them.

7

u/IndependentDouble879 9h ago

Aka “How dare you be near me when I have to face the consequences of buying my wildly impractical and wasteful vehicle”.

It’s one thing if someone has a legitimate use for it, like a contractor or farmer, but 95%+ of them are used about once a year for any sort of hauling or towing.

They really are perfect encapsulations for the pointless decadence of this era that some people are indulging in. Especially when you see them flying through rush hour traffic at 20 over while complaining about gas prices, in something that uses 3x as much fuel as a sensible vehicle

27

u/-MoRiChI- 20h ago
