ಠ_ಠ Received these bad parking notes on my 1st and 2nd day at a new apartment

I was confused about the first note, because stall 92 had something other than a pickup in it the first day (the notes are from 92). I parked pretty much identical the 2nd day (when I got the other 2 notes), which is shown in the picture. My bumper is against the wall. I just emailed management and told them to move me to a different spot

I’ve literally told someone at my old complex, hey these parking spots were built before your truck was even conceived as a thought.… Just a thought maybe you should consider that when realizing you’re not gonna fit. The street has some wider parking spaces. Just make sure you don’t leave any of your nice stuff in it and probably put a club lock on it! Never can be too safe 😄.
I like using the even conceived one for some reason it makes me laugh, and it usually confuses other people for a minute

Trucks didn’t get much wider over years, larger vehicles were still large. Cars seem to have gotten lot smaller over years and trucks mostly got higher and bulkier looking. I’ve parked some larger vehicles in similar spots, just need to fold in mirror and know how to park. The caveat is if the truck owner is morbidly obese could be problematic.

They would much rather push over, into their neighbor's parking spot, by parking with their *tires on (or over!) the line.

Trucks have gotten longer overall. Cabs included. I wonder if the doors are longer and swing wider to open. I'd bet they're thicker these days too. Modern trim on doors looks thicker and more substantial than it was when I was a kid. That would compound the problem of ingress and egress in small parking spaces.

Bulkier and heavier, even with use of more aluminum. Comparable models aren’t that much larger though. Doors don’t seem to swing rough the same, but always exceptions. Doors now definitely have a lot more electronics packed into the so thickness makes sense, especially comparing modern trucks with power everything and more complex sound systems.

Cars have gone up and down in size. I have the... odd experience of having driven a few coupes from the 1960s. Two door, two-seater cars designed for young single people, but not really sports cars given the general lack of power. Cars like the 1970s Mini, Sport Prinz, the Corolla (the most famous Corolla, the AE86, is super tiny). Modern sports cars are bigger. I drive a GR86 and it's a massive boat compared to a '65 Beetle, '68 Sport Prinz, or even a Late 80s Fiero. Despite all of those sort of fitting that same niche.

Well in general seems to be they have gone down, compared to the old boats that a lot of manufacturers sold. There was somewhat of an assortment but largest cars now don’t compare largest cars 50 years ago. Just realized how old some of the cars I grew up working on are now, kind of depressing. In 1972 you could buy a Honda Civic which is on smaller size, even compared to modern compact cars, or you could buy a Cadillac Fleetwood. Cadillac was almost 8 feet longer than Honda and dwarfs modern cars, about 6 feet longer than a GR86.

Trucks have grown a bit but not as much but definitely bulkier. Compare a 1974 Dodge D200 club cab long bed to a 2015 Ford F250 long bed. Both are 3/4 tons and the Ford is about a 1 foot and change longer and almost same width. The only thing is now there are more combinations that weren’t normal options years ago, like some of the extremely short beds that seem almost pointless and crew cads weren’t nearly as common.

The short bed truck sorta makes sense if what you need to haul around are a few people, a latter on a ladder rack, and a big toolbox. In that case though I think you'd be better off with a van, but panel vans give off... certain vibes. Especially if you don't put a company logo on the side. Like, if I drove around in a white panel van with no logo then I might as well write "Free Candy" on the side with a sharpie, because that's what everyone's going to assume of me.

Have you seen photos of the streets around here? They really are as small as they look.

Annoyingly all the owners went to the chamber of commerce, signed up as freelance web developers and registered their perfectly polished 6 litre Dodge Ram which has never carried any kind of load as a business tool so they cost less in tax than a medium sized electric car. They are longer than a parking space, wider to the point of blocking roads when parked, and cost less to tax than a Toyota Prius.

The loophole is closed now so people can't buy more, but I've no idea how long it will take them to rust off the roads...

Not being rude at all, but I’m just wondering if you are handicapped how in the world do you get up in that big truck? My ex-husband used to have a big Ford super duty F350 four-door diesel and it was raised up like yours with big tires and wheels and I was 5’6” (5’1” now due to scoliosis) but it was all I could do to get up in that truck and it had the steps that dropped down and the handles to grab a hold of to help you get up in it and I still struggled. There is absolutely no way with my back trouble today that I could get up in a truck like that. So I was just wondering 🤔

I remember before anyone even got their Cybertrucks there was a huge online conversation from people who put in pre-orders and then did the math when the official dimensions came out and realized it wouldn't fit in their garage and they were livid.

Still, you should know all of this ahead of time. If you're buying a big-ass truck and you have tiny-ass parking spaces: you're not gonna fit and simple logic should tell you that. Same if you already have a big-ass truck and you go to rent somewhere with tiny-ass spaces.

It's not like a person who owns a house and buys a big ass truck starts complaining to their neighbors that they need 1ft of their land to expand their driveway. Actually, fuck, they probably do.

I believe I know someone who can top that. Scenario: narrow county highway between two lakes. The houses there have extremely limited parking as they used to be summer cabins until the rich folk moved in and built bigger houses with no additional parking. Guy moves in, buys a Humvee. It doesn’t fit on the strip that he has for a parking spot. The spot is big enough for a passenger vehicle, but not anything larger. He parks there anyway and is half in the road. Everyone who uses that road has to maneuver around his stupid, oversized vehicle, that he only drives to work and back. He works in an office.

As a Ram 2500 owner, it’s pretty much true, but not always the fault of the driver. The steering is atrocious. The goddamned thing has slop in the steering column! I’ve replaced or shimmed everything except the steering box (that’s next), and it still has the steering of a ‘53 Hudson. Absolute dogshit.

My 1500 was that way too. But so was the E150 I learned to drive on, the various company trucks I drove, as well all the really old cars I got my hands on, save the VW’s so it never seemed to present a problem for me. Some vehicles are vague.

There are some challenges to driving a truck vs a car, but way too many people seem think that means that everyone else has to adapt which is bonkers to me, and disastrous on the road due to the increasing size of personal vehicles.

My dad taught me how to parallel park in a pick up truck with an obscured back windshield. While I'm grateful for it because I'm now the GOAT at parallel parking, I HATED every second of controlling a vehicle that big.

I had to manage a giant Escalade or something equally large in LA when they messed up at the rental car place and they didn't have any little cars (like I reserved) left. I white-knuckled that wheel for the entire day I had to drive it.

Honestly, I think every time someone buys a new car, they should be required to pass a road skills test in it before they can register and insure it. Look, if you got your license in a Prius and now you want to drive a F-150, then you need to demonstrate that you can park it and drive it according to the laws.

It's less of an issue now, but in the 90s I remember kids my age getting hand-me-down cars that were manual transmission... that they couldn't drive. You'd see them rolling back into people. Like... you should need to show me that you can hill start without any rollback (using any method, I don't care if you use the handbrake).

I got backed into really hard by a Toyota Tundra with a trailer hitch that muffled my horn. He shouldn’t have been backing up at all (to change lanes after stopping at the red light), I laid on the horn until after he smashed it, he said he couldn’t see me and heard the horn but was going too fast to stop. I was far enough behind him that I saw him moving back and started honking before he hit me, but still apparently not far enough for him to see me (little sedan) or he didn’t bother looking properly.

Anyway if you’re too big to see other cars and pedestrians around you, you’re too big for the road. At least semis have the big extended mirrors; giant pickups should be illegal without at least those (I know some have them but not all). And some have extra-big wheels with extra suspension or whatever to make them almost monster truck size. Pedestrians will be maybe up to the wheel well. That especially should be illegal.

It wouldn't even be that crazy to make that kind of requirement. The endorsement process already exists for motorcycles. Add an endorsement for manual or automatic, and then break it out by vehicle size/type. Probably sports car, sedan, crossover, SUV, truck, heavy-duty truck, minivan, and van. Mostly because it'd be a bit ridiculous if drivers had to re-test if they bought a Corolla to replace a Malibu, etc. But driving a Pilot vs a RAV4 is a much bigger jump.

Making it a license requirement makes it much easier to enforce, and doesn't interfere with rental cars too much. I'd also be concerned that attaching it to registration & insurance would just result in more unregistered/uninsured vehicles.

I'd also like to see re-testing of elderly drivers.

My dad had that perspective of “bigger vehicle = safer,” too and it also always gave me an icky feeling. It’s not that there wasn’t something to the physics, but it’s still like saying “I want to ensure that I will be the dominate car in a crash.” Like, isn’t that sort of treating crashes like a competition where who “wins” is who is injured least? Ide rather nobody get badly injured…

He wouldn’t drive poorly or like a raging asshole, though. In fact he harped on defensive driving tactics a lot when teaching me, and on not trusting anyone else to follow rules or pay attention. It’s just that he saw bigger vehicles as an extension of that, in a way. And that included making the joke “The bigger car gets the real right of way.”

And at least he had a different legitimate reason for the trucks - he towed and hauled things constantly. Especially his fishing boats.

And I read about a study(can't remember where exactly but it was fascinating), that higher vehicles like trucks literally make people worse drivers. It changes how you perceive speed, as well as makes it harder to drive without weaving. They tested CDL drivers, racecar drivers, and average people, and every single one of them drove faster than they thought they were, and had more trouble keeping it between the lines.

This is the biggest section of ass- hattery, at least in my area of MD. Housewife, 3 kids all somehow 1 year apart, refers to it as mamma BIG truck, within 30 seconds she will say, if ya like this one, you should see my husbands...

Then parks in a back row, where there is a nice car, alone, dead ass next to it because parking lots are scary, unless there is lambo parking availible, you know how people get parking on top of each other. Kids throwing open the giant ass doors, because mom is 9ft awsy in the drivers seat.

Acting like they alone should be parked however they please, ALWAYS BACKING THE FUCK IN, but it takes 7 tries to still be over the line enough that if you cut the wheel an 1/8th of an inch and good bye pasenger side of the car, all to take johnny to his 4 day baseball tournament, and to go camping at great wolf lodge.

Sorry, i fucking hate them if ya cant tell. If your shit doesnt fit, then take 2 spots AT THE END of the aisle. I dont hate big trucks, i hate the 98% who cant drive them and use it as thier excuse for every infraction of societal norms. You can drive it? Fuck yeah do as you please, ill follow you to make room on the highway, and i will take lead in the open road lol

What the hell does boulders going up mountain trails have to do with a dually? That's the weirdest and least likely use case for anyone owning a dually. Most people with one are just towing a heavy trailer on the highway, which is what they are designed to do.

Which is crazy because I just bought a "big" (for mid seize class) truck (nissan frontier) and I can park maybe easier then I did with my 09 chrysler sebring. The cameras make inching in easy and the door geometry is such that I can swing my doors out and they feel like they take up less space then the sebring did. Also backing in a truck is usually easier due to being able to more enter at a better angle

Nah, my brother has two cars, an ancient F-150 and some Jeep SUV. He parks the SUV in the parking garage at his condo and keeps the truck on the street because it’s just too large for the underground garage. He used to have a spot in the outdoor parking they have that fit his truck, but he went for the inside spot when he bought the smaller car.

I had to park close to one when I was a delivery driver for FedEx Express because it was the only open spot where I would get lunch.

Dude driving it came over and confronted me and demanded I move.

I just said, “It’s going to have to wait until after my break, legally I can’t drive until I’m off my lunch break (USDOT regulation, not a FedEx one).”

I was further off his truck than how close we parked everything in the station.

A lot of people just flip their shit when anything is closer than 5’ from their vehicle because they have absolutely no experience in close-quarters driving.

It can make it difficult for people to get in and out and i can personally show you where people ding your shit because people without large vehicles feel entitled to mess up your vehicle because you stayed in the lines you were supposed to.

If someone damages your things, you are entitled to have that stuff repaired by that person. Thats the same for everyone. Is anyone entitled to damage your vehicle? No. Absolutely not. Can I understand how trucks get dinged when most trucks are parked right up against the lines? Yes.

Really? I am a traveling tradesman that goes all over the country to work and I often pull my camper to live in for medium to long term stays away from my home. I work very, very hard to earn the things I have like we all do, but I rely on my vehicle for more than you would thing and so logically, the only thing I invest more in is my home. I drive a nearly $90k truck that I bought brand new. $90k truck and you think that you wouldn't want to give a half-assed effort into avoiding OTHER people damaging it even slightly?

I live on a farm and I use my F350 dually for hauling heavy trailers, otherwise it's parked and I'm taking my car. It's a $100k truck, of course I'm going to whine if it gets scratched. Its a tow truck, all it ever does is haul feed and cows from the fields to home. There's absolutely no reason for it to get scratched just being a tow rig.

Is it inevitable that it gets scratched? Yeah of course, and I'm not gonna be overly upset but I spent a lot of money on it - I'm obviously going to look after it and that includes washing it so it doesn't rust out!

I don't really understand this notion that for it to "qualify" as a work truck in a Redditors mind, it must be full of scratches and dents. Didn't you get taught to look after your tools? The only people I ever really encounter who think this way are on Reddit. All the real farmers I know look after their stuff and would be pissed if you put a dent in their nice truck.

Ironically, I did get a nasty note one time when I used my truck and big trailer to help my friends move into an apartment.

When we were done there was no place to park a truck/trailer combo without blocking the lane or taking up 3-4 spots. Since it was a high theft area, I had to keep the trailer attached to the truck. So I went off into the dirt, pulled behind a dumpster, pulled my truck sideways and only took up two spots right next to the dumpster

The trailer was in the dirt behind the dumpster, still attached to my truck. Any other option would’ve had me taking at least three spots probably more like four(it was a really long trailer). This way I only took two spots.

This girl was like, ”you are so entitled and you think you are soooo cool with you super cool truck. Fuck you for inconveniencing the rest of us you stupid douchebag.”

First I was like, “sooo, you think my truck is super cool?” It wasn’t a cool truck at all. Just a small boring ass Chevy S-10 with no mods. It had four wheel drive and all terrain tires but no lift and the tires weren’t huge or anything.

Then I was just bummed out cuz I was REALLY trying to be as polite as possible. It still bugs me. I really hope she came out the next morning and saw that I really wasn’t being a douche. This was like 25 years ago and it still bugs me sometimes.

Years ago we had a change out at a gated community and the guard commented to me that he thought it was so wasteful for us to use 3 trucks when one would suffice. I explained that we all live in different parts of the city and I let my guys take there service trucks home. He still thought I should be doing more. I'm like fuck you dude, I'm already running f150s while these big companies are running box trucks. Told him to stay in his lane and keep watching his gate. Lol

FFS! That’s completely fucking ridiculous. If I unhook the trailer and park it as I was allowed, it would take up TWO spots, and my truck would take ANOTHER.

Plus, residents have every right to park a moving truck overnight on move in/out days along with the two regular cars. We left the two resident’s vehicles at their old complex because we aren’t rude, inconsiderate, entitled jackasses.

If I did this EVERY DAY then yes I would be entitled and should make other arrangements for my trailer. However, it is in the lease and apartment facility policy that you can have a moving truck or trailer IN ADDITION to the two allotted vehicle spots while moving in/out. It was too late to drive it home and no way in hell am I leaving a $10k trailer unattended out on the street because some oblivious idiots are too stupid to see the trailer and too lazy to walk an extra 10 seconds from car to entrance.

Regardless, we checked and there were DOZENS of vacant parking spots and several were within 50-100 meters of the building entrance. This girl was, like you, just an ignorant, oblivious idiot who didn’t bother to look at WHY the truck was parked in that fashion. Good grief some of you are dense af.

You are just too stupid to comprehend that this was a one night only, well within the facility guidelines EXCEPTION. An exception where I could’ve taken up MORE spaces and been fully justified in doing so.

Also, since you can’t fcuking read, there were DOZENS of empty spaces available within a few feet of my spots, avd they were available all night. I know they were empty because we stayed up all night tripping on acid. Literally zero people were affected by this except the one girl who had her pick of spots , who clearly didn’t see the trailer attached to my hitch, hiding behind the dumpsters.

Also, this was a MINI truck. Smaller than my current car. So your truck theory is out the fcukin window as well. What fucking dolt.

Ultimately she was still right - you were taking up multiple spots with your truck (to the exclusion of other people who want to use them) because your truck and trailer was too large to fit the space available.

On paper you should have parked elsewhere - on the street, in a suitable private lot, or wherever else was available. You protected your trailer because you didn't want it stolen or damaged parking somewhere else, but potentially forced a resident of that block tondo exactly that themselves...

But, NOPE! Nice try though.

There was nowhere to go offsite anywhere around there besides highways and straight ghetto streets where even the complex said not to park. Plus, tenants were allowed to have a moving truck(or trailer) PLUS their two regular vehicles while moving in/out and we had left ALL other vehicles at their old apartment. A moving truck would’ve taken up two spots with this layout as well.

Then, there’s the fact that there were PLENTY of other spots opened all night, all over the complex, but they were a whopping 50 meters away. The poor girl had to walk an extra 13 seconds to her apartment.

The ONLY reason I only took up two was because those two spots were open and right next to the dumpsters. Otherwise I had every right to take up three spots. I was actually 100% justified and quite courteous taboot.

The whole point of this thread is that OPs neighbour is an asshole because his truck cannot fit the space, and he wants others to accommodate him. And this has been pretty much universally agreed.

You park across multiple spaces and it is absolutely fine because you feel you are entitled to it, and your own justification is acceptable to you - while we have no idea what OPs neighbours reasoning is.

While I can concede that you went about it in a more considerate and reasonable fashion, you are ultimately both doing the same thing...

Wasn’t me. When I’m driving a truck I park in a spot with empty spaces on either side if possible. Your sports car will be plenty safe from my doors.

If you are in a lot with tones of empty spaces and you rake up two spots I’ll park in the next door so nobody can park between us but we still have a buffer. If some sports car douche is taking up two spots in a crowded lot then it’s game on to fcuk with them.

I am a truck owner. I agree with you. Most parking spots have been reduced except Costco. I park the furthest I can in the parking lot-I don’t want to be dinged from other vehicles and it is easier to park and leave. Parking garages can be a challenge in width and height, so I avoid them. If you drive a larger vehicle you must take some responsibility to ensure the space needed for your vehicle is available.

Like the person who responded to you, when I owned a quad cab with 8’ bed, I went out of my way to not be that guy parking over top of sidewalks and leaving the front end way out in the aisle. Irritates me when oversized trucks take a whole spot and extend 2 feet or so out into the garage traffic lane or you can't see what traffic is on the other side of a turn because of their size... really, if you are not construction or other load moving etc job, do you need something that large?

I've had a truck park next to my driver side that was so wide I could not squeeze into my car..

Maybe the truck isn't what's too big. It might be that the driver is too big to get out of the truck without opening the door all the way.
