Made it for our 4th anniversary using Super Sculpey clay and painted with Warhammer paints and a generous layer of clear lacquer varnish. Got the box and LED components from amazon, and the metal plaque from a local service.

I'm pleased with the result, although many lessons were learned. I didn't find a way to hide every wire properly, the hinges don't really hold the top upright when open, and it only closes completely if the objects are placed in a specific place. So I'm hoping to get some feedback/suggestions on these issues.

I think with better planning, the next one can turn out pretty good, maybe even good enough to sell as custom commissions or original design.

This piece is constructed using iridescent abalone shell shards, metallic seed beads, rhinestones, and multi-toned glass tiles.

The piece is actually made fully to scale and is proportionate to the average baked potato.

I used a variety of wet and needle felting to get its outer layer and the inside is a wool stuffing that has been soaked in tea. Thought my tea soaking days were behind me but sadly not.

The butter dripping down was a must request from my gf who as per usual is asking if we can keep it… we can’t.

Took me around 8 hours on and off to make and had fun doing it! Any questions are welcome!

I'd like to know your first thought about these chickens.

I have this large (120x110cm) perler board I made some 20 years ago. It's slowly started sagging over the years, probably by a combination of it's weight and the lack of support. Not sure how visible the sagging is in the pictures, but it looks like it's physically trying to escape the frame.

The frame is just a thin piece of plastic in the front and like a 1mm cardboard sheet on the back.

I'd like to stabilize it to make it flat again, but I don't know what the best way to do that would be so I'm looking for any suggestions. My idea is to buy some sort of sturdy wooden board and how the perler board to it, but I don't know what type of wooden board or even glue would be appropriate.

Since the perlers aren't solid (i.e. there is basically a whole of varying size in the middle of each one that would need to be taken into consideration for choosing the glue.

Has anyone done something other this or have any general advise? Am I even thinking about this in the right way?

Hello! I have this ring that I'd really like to make glow but I have no idea how 😅. I think putting in an LED wouldnt work because the ring is so small but is there any other way I could make it glow. FYI it's for a display piece not to wear

Made by embroidering beads. Sourcing each color and bead type was the hardest part.

There is an upcoming Pinners Conference in my city. It looks fun with lots of things to do but I have social anxiety and don't like big crowds. It's being held in a medium sized city about an hour from a major metropolitan area and is the only one being held in my state. I'm thinking I might pass but would like to know what others experience is who have attended one.

Yesterday night after work I put some serie to watch and I embroidered this little guy! Around 2-3h of work.

Hi, craft kit is the $1 “building blocks” kit in a clear plastic tube from Target. The goal is to keep the butterfly together solidly enough that I can tilt it at a diagonal and lean it against the mantelpiece or lean it on a wall-mounted shelf. (It doesn’t really stick together on its own.)

I’m thinking of maybe using something like clear nail polish to brush it with? But, something similar that’s affordable enough to be sold by, like, the quarter-cup? Is it clear wood varnish that I need? Should I mix clear wood varnish with something like clear glue or clear epoxy?

And also what do I lay the butterfly down on while I’m painting, so that the butterfly won’t stick to that surface? Like what could I lay down underneath the butterfly, that the wood varnish / epoxy / whatever, would just peel right off of or not stick to?

If you have products to recommend, please drop links? I am always weirdly worried I’m buying the wrong thing 😅

& what kind/size/brand of paintbrush should I use to apply the varnish/ varnish-epoxy mix / whatever?

I cast an ingot, forged and rolled it into a sheet that I cut to size with a saw. Afterward, I soldered the ring, made it round, and cleaned it with a file. Next, I engraved the edge lines with a 90-degree graver and drilled the holes and stone seats before flush-setting them. Finally, I engraved the decorative lines with a graver and gave it a light polish.

Goofy, I know, but I love how their little faces turned out! Next up is Uhura and Scotty, and if this doesn't stop being so much fun I might just end up making a whole silly little playset of these guys ♡

(genuinely hope this doesn't count as 'low effort' even though they're so simple, lol. Just a quick little afternoon project for fun)

TW: pet loss

Bit of a niche thing, but I wanna see if anyone has any experience making a brush from scratch. I had to say goodbye to my cat of 16 years this Tuesday, and I want to try and make a brush from some of his hair that I saved. Nothing functional, just something to hold it in place so I can pet it. If that sounds completely psycho, keep scrolling.

There’s a few guides online from painters who make their own brushes, but my main concern is the hair is pretty short, and I wanna want as much of it exposed as possible while still secured in place. Also considering replacing the bristles of an existing brush but not sure if that would actually be easier.

Anyone who’s done something like this before: do you have any “I wish I had known this going in” tips? I really only have one shot bc it’s not like I have backup hair. Anyway, thanks for listening and go hug your pets for me.
