Hello!! I've been beginning work on a webcomic for a few months now. I'm wrapping up what I would consider my "test run" of pages, before taking a pause to redo some drafting and other behind the scenes stuff and reassessing my approach as I continue with the chapter.

I'm primarily looking for feedback on how best to balance a greyscale comic (if things are readable or if the values are too muddy), and if the speech bubbles + text feel too "tacked on." But any sort of input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Most debut indie comics play it safe. They decompress, introduce one character, tease a mystery, and hope you come back for the trade paperback in six months.

Daegard: Made from Sin #1 does the exact opposite.

Created by Kathy Irvine with art by Ricardo Jaime (Godslap, Grimstone), this book is an unapologetic, maximalist swing that empties years of worldbuilding onto the page in one breathless issue:

- A slaughtered royal bloodline and an infant survivor

- A warrior society of gargoyles born from gemstones once every 1,000 years

- High-velocity space fantasy mixed with brutal body horror

- A terrifying socio-political metaphor where refugees are used as literal "bio-batteries" for soul-powered machines

It covers what easily could have been a four-issue opening arc, jumping from massacres and philosophical training to anarchist street guides and dystopian uprisings. It has some real indie friction points (especially with pacing and dense lettering), but the ambition and sheer momentum are impossible to ignore.

Curious to hear from anyone else following Centarri Games' universe. how do you feel about debut issues that swing for the absolute fences versus slow-burn setups?

Action page from my comic Manifest. Most of my pages so far have been dialogue-heavy, so this is my first real attempt at a fight sequence.

Mainly looking for feedback on the panel flow, sense of movement, and impact. Does character rushing in and swinging the bat read clearly at a glance? Anything you’d change?

Here are 2 pages I made to get better at drawing backgrounds in comics. I tried to make them look like pages for a potential horror comic in the veins of films like "Wrong Turn" and "Jeepers Creepers".

This time I used a solid pen (The soft dip pen in Ibis Paint) unlike my previous works in which I used a lighter pen, in order to avoid making the art blurry. Just used the airbrush for the "Vroom!" sound effect.

What areas do I need to improve upon to draw better backgrounds? And also make the comic feel more atmospheric?

This character's name is Sasha and the whole story will begin with him.

I’ve been developing a new all-ages comic called Gurt the Valkyrie. Its about a Valkyrie that comes to Midgard to experience life in the human world, and ends up trying to navigate high school in New Jersey while she battles frost giants and mythical creatures. This cover was drawn in pencil and then colored with procreate. I’m testing a compact black-and-white format for the interior pages. Tell me what you think, thanks for looking.

I would just like to preface by saying I am a year 12 media student with no experience in art except for very rare bursts of drawing with no guidance. I have recieved a few mean responses about my art skills, so I would like to ask you to please be factual and gentle with me. This specific survey focuses on composition and panel flow, I have specifically chosen a few pages with these aspects slightly differing to judge, this is so you judge without being impacted by the story.

This character is named Tikhon—a Russian name, given that the story initially unfolds in Russia. Since childhood, he has been subjected to experimental serums that granted him incredible strength but also resulted in extremely low intelligence. The comic tells the story of a group of people who escape from a shelter and encounter a dangerous outside world.
