Discussion Putting UMass’ win against Rutgers tonight into perspective
JUST FOR ALL OF YOU WHO ARE UNAWARE OF HOW BAD UMASS HAS ACTUALLY BEEN AND HOW REMARKABLE THIS IS
This is legitimately the biggest win in program history, at least in terms of their time in the FBS.
Coming into tonight they were on a 16 game losing streak. They haven’t won a game since the 24-25 season. UMass joined the FBS in 2012. Since then out of all teams that have been in the FBS at least going back that far, they have the worst win percentage, the most losses, the lowest points scored, and the most points allowed. In many of these metrics it isn’t even close either.
I’ll use IU as a comparison. All of these stats are from before tonight.
UMass had won only 26 games in their entire 14 years of being at the FBS level. This team has not had a winning season at any point in the FBS. Their best finishes being 4-8 seasons in 2017 and 2018.
UMass since 2012 has 134 losses, Kansas sits behind them at 124. IU isn’t even bottom 25, we have 87 losses. Shoutout to Purdue at 7th worst with 110 lmao.
UMass win percentage since 2012 is an alarmingly bad .163, Kansas behind them at .257. IU again not bottom 25 at .494. Shoutout Purdue at 14th worst with .345 lmao.
UMass since 2012 had scored only 3,203 points. They have a head start on James Madison who only recently joined (2022) who’s already at 1,802, and a 3 year head start on Charlotte (2015) who has 2,777. For perspective IU is at 5,179.
UMass points against since 2012 is at an astonishing 6,000, Kansas behind them at 5,888, Indiana again not bottom 25 with 4,823 points against. Shoutout Purdue at 19th worst with 5,242 lmao.
They don’t have a winning record against a single team in the FBS since 2012. They are tied 2-2 with Ball State, 1-1 with Charlotte, and 1-1 with App State. Outside of those three series they have a losing record against every other FBS opponent.
This is only their 9th road win since 2012, and only their 5th road win against a non-MAC team.
Their biggest FBS victory to this point was against independent BYU in 2017, beating them 16-10.
Before tonight UMass had 0 wins against power conference teams since joining the FBS in 2012.
IU may be the worst college football team in history until last year, but UMass has been definitively the worst team in the nation since they decided to move up in 2012 and it’s not even close. It’s by a very wide margin. This single game happening is a miracle by itself.
Let’s fucking go Minutemen. Please take care of the DePaepe brothers for us.
Edit: u/WatchOutIGotYou made an excellent table of current FBS progams UMass has beaten, including the last victories and scores

Opinion Schiano got to have the hottest seat of the country right now
Few reasons I can currently think of:
- UMASS have been bad record wise and actually gone winless for more than a year...
- Tonight showed a huge regression on our offense and no improvement at the defense
- Tonight is such a disaster on the media that it is going to be all over the place from here to x to tv
- This is a slapped on the face on president tate and ad zinn to start their second year of their job
I know there's a lot of other things not mentioned here but I'm currently overwhelmed with it after being roasted by this in the last few hours 😵💫
EDIT: THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST GAME SINCE I GRADUATED AND THIS IS WHAT I HAD SUFFERED, GTFO 😅🤡
Another edit: tonight is on bar if not worse than the Chris ash era with how our opinions are mood changes over the time

LSU is working to add ex-Utah and Denver Broncos cornerback Blake Cotton, sources tell @CBSSports.
Not finalized and there are still things being worked through before he can be added to the roster but he’s a target. Spent the offseason with the Broncos before being released in August.
