Invite link: https://discord.gg/ZkrZeuGMYg

I made a discord server for our subreddit. It will be somewhere where you can socialize, find friends and text other students. I have also included some other things in the server that might interest you to join us.

- I will be working on a Summer Minecraft Server and have it run for all spring and summer semesters. I plan on launching it end of April after the exams are over.

- Weekly events hosted by me, online and in person. I am going do mini in person board game events on tuesdays and thursdays on campus starting next week. It'll be on 11:30am to 1:00pm. Attendance is completely optional for those who want to. I will host other events at other times in the future I just have to come up with the time and ideas.

- I have made all of the moderation logs and modmail completely public on the discord for all to see in order to have full transparency of what the moderators due so there may be full accountability.

Feel free to tag me or message me directly when your there, I always respond.

Hey all,

It's a tough time of year. I know people who have received counselling from Usask psychology students in the Clinical Psych program. They offer $25/hr sessions.

Here's all the info, you can contact them by email. I have been made aware that they are currently in need of clients so students can get their practicum hours. Please share with anyone you think needs it.

Help me Stop Signs

I do understand that the hour of half past four is, historically speaking, a period of considerable activity upon the university grounds. One might even expect a modest accumulation of motor vehicles, for scholars and staff alike must, regrettably, return to their respective homes.

And yet, I must respectfully inquire: must it truly take half an hour merely to escape the premises?
At least, during the customary rush hour, traffic possessed the decency to move. Slowly, perhaps, but move it did. Today, however, I found myself trapped upon campus as though imprisoned by an exceedingly elaborate Victorian moat, surrounded by several hundred automobiles whose drivers appeared to have collectively forgotten the fundamental principles of forward motion.
I arrived at 4:30 with the modest expectation that I might eventually leave campus. A naïve ambition, as it turns out.

I therefore extend my sincerest gratitude to whatever administrative forces have contrived this most innovative system of vehicular gridlock. Truly, it is a remarkable achievement that one may traverse the entirety of campus in considerably less time than it takes to actually depart from it.
I remain, as ever,

Deeply humbled by the experience and only marginally resentful.

Discussion BMSC240 AI use by prof

I'm surprised nobody else has posted about this already but todays lecture was crazy, the AI infographic and meme were whatever but making us sit through 15 minutes of an AI slop video he generated was insane as well as him saying that he bought an 800$ claude license with his university account 😭😭 genuinely feels like a fever dream

Is AI use by profs just normalized now? Kind of sad honestly.

Social Life USASK older students

Hi all - now that fall semester has started, I wanted to extend an invitation to any older students (I hesitate to call us ‘mature’ students) to join our Discord server. It’s for any students who feel they don’t really fit in the usual age demographic at usask - maybe you started late, or you’re a single parent juggling parenting duties and school, or pursuing a mid-life career change, etc.

The server hasn’t been super active lately but a few of us managed 3 or 4 meetups at Louis’ last year.

DM me if you’d like a server invite!

Student Question Switching Engineering Sections

I’m in first year engineering and was wondering if anyone knew how hard it was to switch sections? It would benefit to move into the odd blocks because of morning classes from even blocks (afternoon) financially.

Other Looking to do something different away from classes?

Like the title ask. Well? Do you?

If so, I highly suggest joining the U of S Ballroom Dancing Club. Students get a discounted rate! It's less than $10.00 per hour for 20 hours of lessons!

It's fun, a great way to meet new people, develop a new skill and help distract from stressful course loads. When I was a student it really helped my mental and physical health and improved my social skills while reducing anxiety. Plus it was my physical therapy.

They are currently in the arts tunnel until 2 today, if you do go by ask for "the crazy dance lady" for some candy and ask her questions! About anything!

If you miss out today, we will be on site at the Fireworks festival this weekend and at the Broadway Street Fair next weekend!

Clubs and Sports Squash/Tennis/ Badminton partner

Hi! Just wondering if there’s a club/group for tennis or badminton at Usask? I’ve seen the tennis courts and squash room that you can book, but I haven’t seen anything for actually joining a club/group :)
Before winter comes I’m trying to get more physical activity in, so if anyone’s interested in playing too I’m down! I have equipment ready 🏸🎾

Admission Question Title: Can I apply to USask Nursing with a Humanities deficiency? (Hate my current class)

I’m currently in my pre-professional year trying to get into the BSN program. For my humanities requirement, I ended up taking Critical Thinking this semester. I honestly hate it already it looks way too hard and I'm really stressed about it ruining my GPA.

I wanted to swap it for a different humanities class, but literally everything else is completely full for this semester.

Does anyone know if I can just drop it and apply to nursing with a deficiency in my humanities requirement? Can I take that missing humanities class in the spring or summer semester instead before nursing officially starts?

If anyone else has applied with a deficiency or taken a prerequisite in the spring/summer, how did it affect your admission average?

Student Question Transportation to Brighton on weekday evenings and weekends?

I'm a first year university student and a lot of my assessments and events will happen in the evenings on weekdays and on weekends. However, the busses that go to where I live in Brighton (29, 529), are only available on weekdays until 5:45 PM. Looking at the transit app, the alternative routes would require at least an hour of walking. That would be incredibly inconvenient, especially in the winter. I can't afford a car and I don't have much money, so taking a taxi or an Uber won't be sustainable.

Are there other people in my situation who have found better means of transportation when the busses aren't available? Are there perhaps other busses to take that would decrease the walking time? I understand that Brighton is a new area but does anyone know of any plans to expand bus service there?

Public Service Announcement MAR-kwiss Hall and Plass Riel

This comes up every so often and then a bunch of people are like “What? I’ve been saying it wrong this whole time??? Why did no one tell me???”

Marquis Hall is MAR-kwiss, not Mar-KEE, because it’s named after a wheat breeder dude who pronounced his last name MAR-kwiss, not a generic mid-level French nobleman.

Place Riel is Plass Ree-ELL, not Place, and not Rye-ell, because it’s named after Louis Riel, who spoke French, so we use the French pronunciation of Place, not the English.

I apologize to the new international students who are now totally baffled by the inconsistencies of French language influences in Saskatchewan. 😂

Oh, ETA… Louis is Louie, not Lewis.

Student Question BMSC 230 online vs in-person? Roesler

Is there a different between the online section and in person section of BMSC 230? I have Bill Roesler online but there's no recorded lectures!! mostly all just supplement materials. He's teaching the in-person as well right now. Unless the online is a bit easier it feels a bit rough and unfair.

Thank you in advance!

Complaining First Day Horror Story

This construction is the most diabolical thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. My class was at 9:30 and had left an hour early by car, since the buses all said they were stopped for an unspecified amount of time. Then, when I did leave the house there is construction absolutely everywhere. AND THEN Campus was so insanely busy and traffic was jammed on College Drive for so long. Most of the vehicles that were jammed mind you were all buses. SO I COULDN’T EVEN GET THERE BY BUS ANYWAYS. This is the dumbest thing that I’ve ever experienced and this lack of foresight about all these construction problems while saying “the university gives you free bus passes” is the most tone deaf narrative I’ve ever heard. This would only be valid IF YOU COULD ACTUALLY GET TO CAMPUS. Moral of the story I missed my first class of the year and am beyond annoyed as many profs in higher level classes don’t post anything

Student Question Looking for academically inclined lab partners for PHYS-115 (LJ3)

This might be a shot in the dark but I thought it couldn't hurt to try and make friends in this lab of mine. We're able to request lab partners until the sept. 8th I think so I thought I would see if I could find anyone who might have similar goals or interests to be in a group with!

I like to be efficient so I'm crossing my fingers that my lab partners are similar so we can have great semester together for this lab and hopefully be able to make some great friendships that last!

I'm in the biomed program so if you share my sentiment or program and are in this lab section I'd love to see if we can be in a lab group together!

I'll be content with whoever I get put into a lab with, just thought this might be a good way to try and make friends.

Question? Has anyone else not received their student loans yet?

It’s my second year and I haven’t got any of my grants or loans deposited into my bank account yet. Last year I don’t remember it taking longer than the first day of each month like it says on the paper
