When he was cut from the NFL he made a living selling portraits to NFL players.
Everyone should look up his work. it's INCREDIBLE.

Seems like an easy sell for a show. By day he's a courtroom sketch artist who has a unique ability to see guilt or innocence in his drawings. By night he investigates and extracts justice. Terry Crews stars in Sketch, only on Peacock.

u/innominateartery 19h ago
This is gold! I’ve forwarded it to my friend…it’s been greenlit by NBC, Seth Rogen is directing and Sofia Vergara is in talks to be the lawyer / platonic love interest. The first season has been filmed in Toronto, test audiences were lukewarm to police procedural, the job has been changed to a park sketch artist. Terry Crews has departed over creative differences, Sofia isn’t available in spring ‘28, and corporate is asking for a Dolly-related plot. Sold to Netflix, production relocating to Georgia amid diplomatic headwinds about a lake. Netflix has canceled the second season and declined to air the first one. That’s show biz, kid.
Just announced: animated spinoff series

Man, that was a whirlwind. When I heard Seth Rogan was directing, I got excited, but I see the corpo blood-suckers got their fangs in. Hopefully they will let Terry voice his character in the animated spinoff.
9
u/RajunCajun48 17h ago
It'll be animated to look like him, but best we can do is give him a cameo as a pigeon watching him do sketch's in the park, and he will only do 2.3 seconds of pigeon noises amongst a flock of other pigeon voice actors.

That's so cool. I have nothing but respect for Terry crews cuz I've seen some of his speeches in court where he is talking up about survivors of domestic abuse and not only that this man does a crap ton of funny works anywhere he goes. This man has nothing but a positive glow about him and I don't know why he's so magnetic but I just get a good feeling anytime I see something new about him

I had an art teacher who loved to talk about the athletes she got into art. She insisted they had really good hand control, a good eye, good sense for the body, and the biggest impediment was mental, that “jocks” didn’t think drawing was cool, but she was able to get one to give it a try & to keep practicing, some ended up being pretty good.

Steve Rogers, more popularly known as Captain America, is canonically a cartoonist and art major. (You see a bit of it in his first movie, where he’s sketching throughout the war.) There used to be a webcomic that had the conceit of being his cartoon diary since waking up in the 21st century. In it, he still drew himself as the skinny nerd he was back in high school during the Depression, despite now being a militarized ideal slab of beef. It was a nuanced, funny, melancholy comic and it’s a shame it’s been taken down.

Long before he found fame in Hollywood or the NFL, Terry Crews’ very first job in the entertainment industry was working as a courtroom sketch artist in his hometown of Flint, Michigan

u/Khelthuzaad 20h ago
Not only that his american football job wasn't providing enough money, his colleagues would support him financially asking him to do portraits of them.

He and I have the shaving (or using clippers at least for me) for a home haircut in common because salons are too fucking expensive. It’s been 7 years since I’ve had a haircut at a salon. Not even sure how much I’ve saved, but the clippers were $40 and the scissors I use were about $5. That’s about how much I used to pay for one haircut.

I don't think y'all realize just how talented Terry Crews is. He got a scholarship to Western Michigan for art before he ever tried out for football. He was a courtroom sketch artist and worked with local news in Flint, MI. Even while he was in the NFL, he drew pictures of his teammates to supplement his income. Disney was even considering hiring him on as a 2D animator, but then Toy Story happened and 3D became the next big thing.

He really is a special dude and has had one of the most interesting, random lives in Hollywood.
He entered college on a full boat art scholarship believe it or not, then apparently just decided "Why not try football?" After getting a college scholarship for art his first year, he tried out for the team, dominated, and was given a full athletic scholarship. That alone is ridiculously impressive.
He then went on to be the 11th overall pick in the NFL draft, which is a big deal if you don't know. Means he was an absolute stud player in college. His pro career wasn't anything amazing and he bounced around from team to team for a few years. Interestingly, he supplemented his income by doing portraits for teammates making more money than him (back in the early 90s, NFL players on rookie deals didn't make much money).
After 7 years in the league, he retired and then bankrolled and co-wrote a feature film. He describes it as a terrible film but ultimately lit the fire in him to continue on the writing and acting path. Then came the Old Spice commercials and the rest was history.
Over the years he also started his own interior design company that is still well regarded and wrote/illustrated multiple children's books.
The dude's just an insanely talented human.

Those who don’t know:
For extra money Terry Crews would draw portraits of teammates in the NFL when he was in between teams.
Before that he was a courtroom sketch artist in Flint, Michigan.
And before that he spent a summer at an art academy and went to Western Michigan on an art scholarship.
