I moved into this dorm about a week and a half ago. There’s been construction going on at this bridge since April but four days ago they started working around 1am or 3am instead of during the day. They’re sawing, hammering, shouting at each other and my roommates and I can’t sleep. The ETA for this to be done is November meaning this’ll happen for 3 more months. I took the picture from my bed, I can see them from here. During the day it’s never been this loud.

Before anyone suggests, there’s no open housing on campus we can move to. The school can’t do anything about it. Foam sound insulation things don’t work (we’ve tried). The only way I can block out the noise is sleeping with some noise insulation on the window, have in heavy duty ear plugs AND have on noise cancelling headphones that are playing brown noise. We emailed the company asking about it and they said they’re trying to get it done by November.

In America, tipping a service person is not a rule or law. There is no law saying you have to tip waiters, haircutters or taxi drivers. When I see someone get an extra tip and get angry that it wasn't more money, I can't help but judge them over how entitled and stupid they are.

The only reason to get angry over this matter is if they didnt pay the base price for the service.

I have seen co workers and other service people get angry for the entire day just because someone didnt tip. They may get tips all day, but one person doesnt tip, or there was too many that gave a "low tip" and they get totally bent out of shape for it.

I have also noticed that lots of foreigners working in America get extremely mad because they had this false idea before moving to America that giving a tip is a law and if someone doesnt tip they are somehow stealing.

There was one business in particular that had foreign workers that would immediately confront the customers that gave too small a tip and months later they ended up losing lots of customers which almost made them have to shut down.

Here's a picture of the most painful one, located behind my left knee. I have five more, but the two near my ankle and wrist hurt just as intensely as this one. It's been probably 4 decades since this last happened to me - 0/10 experience would not recommend. 😀

Thankfully, he survives being struck by lightning.

I get hives before and during my periods, people ask if I got food poisoning but its just hormones, im kinda tired of the same questions about the same thing, and no, getting rid of my pets won't fix it, it's not an allergy, I'm not fine but it is what it is, thanks🗿

EDIT: Those are hives, not just reddish skin, my camera is just bad. Hives are also a symptom of food poisoning, or at least is a known symptom where I live 🗿

I was joking with my boys today and used a quote from the movie (quick, what's the number for 9-1-1?) and they thought it was funny. I figured it would be a great exposure to them. Looked it up, and it's $4 to rent! Might be a Fuzzy Memory but i feel like that is a comparable price to blockbusters back in the day but movies like this should be free. They are classics

I know to some "it's only $4" and I can easily afford it. I just feel like some classic movies should be free....especially for kids.

I recently installed Instagram, I've always tried to not have social media but my girlfriend wanted to share things with me there, so I installed it.

My very small issue is that my feed went from wholesome to:

1 - STOP SCROLLING: If you don't watch this video I will starve/die/lose to AI, some kind of progressive issue asking me to get involved.

2 - I don't want men to watch my videos (I get these consistently)

I'm either being emotionally manipulated or asked to leave. Did Instagram categorize me as a leftist woman?

Context -

I bought this iPad specifically for Procreate. There's an update available for the iPad but even after deleting / offloading as many apps as possible, the device still doesn't have enough memory for the large 15GB update...

Update - I bought the device 3 years ago. I'm aware 36GB is nothing, but again, I bought this just for Procreate and a little YouTube

Second update - I didn't realise people were so passionate about the amount of storage on a tablet lol

Feel like I need to clear a few things up after reading through the comments, some of which are genuinely hilarious:

1. I was aware the device was old when I bought it and that 32GB is not high, for ref my mobile is 512GB.

2. The 8th gen iPad did come with a 32GB capacity option ( https://support.apple.com/en-gb/118451 )

3. As mentioned originally, I bought the iPad specifically to use Procreate which I didn't think would require 100's of gigs.

4. I think a lot of people forget the subs name... Mildly infuriating.. this hasn't inconvenienced me in any way, its just.. mildly infuriating.. ?

5. The update IS A SYSTEM UPDATE NOT FOR PROCREATE

Having a large chunk of my screen taken up by "Write with Gemini" is so painful, knowing you are writing an essay no one will even read. Can't though because of academic integrity or whatever

i've been at this job for several years, at the end of 2020 actually! it's a really small company especially my department. and i'm the only girl in my department. i make $21.10/hr (starting salary was $19)

my boss was super cool and awesome and he loved me after i came out of my shell. we're both very introverted people and have the same dry sense of humor. he very much became my "work dad". after a couple years he'd get me snacks and stuff after seeing me always snacking at my desk

he also convinced upper management to get me to what amounted to $240 a year for having to use my personal phone for work purposes. also when we had our monthly department lunch, he would send me out to get it and not make me clock out for lunch so free half hour! apparently that counted as overtime, and apparently me clocking in 5 min before start time counted as overtime, too

so fast forward to recently, after my dear old boss retired (be free good sir) the other one came and. yeah. he's very professional and by the book and typical office lingo buzzwords, you know the type. so he discovered my "milking the clock" for overtime which i absolutely did not do on purpose or even know it happened! like i clock in early because half the time the damned app takes 80 years to load and register my punch. and i live so far away so i can't make it inside on time. so he told me to start clocking in at start on the dot, and lunch on the dot, and in from lunch on the dot, and end on the dot

which is fine i get it, i get it. it's the "right thing to do" and he made sure the other hourly folk were doing the same. but now i also have to clock in for lunches. and yeah, that's fine. i lost my phone allowance, too. i don't use it as much anymore but i lost that. and to top it all off he docked my actual pay to $21 even?? which yes it's legal here i looked

so not even counting the actual salary dock, i lost like, a thousand dollars a year. when i don't make tat much, when the higher ups can afford a fancy new car every year, etc etc. i know others have shitty pay rate and i'm not complaining about hte job itself. i'm glad i'm employed i'm glad i can screw around on my phone when i'm not working and i'm glad it's a casual environment. but why did bro do this to me....he doesn't even buy me snacks....

There was 4-5 inches of empty space in the box. Seems like a waste of space and resources.

Bf and I shop at our local grocery chain and are generally pretty antisocial. We always use the self checkout so we don't really have to interact with anyone. We both work in foodservice, so our grocery hauls are also pretty small since we eat mostly at work. Every so often an attendant has to come over and help but recently it seems like every time we go it's screaming for an employee. This last time it made the employee come over THREE TIMES. To the point this kid was mad at *us* for using self checkout when the machine is the one that's fucking up. We didn't have any bags in our cart, just a box of cat litter that was too heavy to be moving around. I'm bothered by the teenage employee too because... like I said before, I'm doing this so ideally I don't have to talk to anyone while I'm checking out. I'm getting to the point of mild annoyance where I might follow his advice and just go to a cashier...

For context, I got Grand Theft Auto V a year ago for the XBOX Series X. I recently removed some games my brother downloaded with Game Pass, which I didn't want nor we played mostly to make room for it again. But the installation stopped at 72.2%. I put other discs in and they all work. So the problem comes from this disc. But not this one. I tried removing and insert it again, cleaning the disc with alcohol and a Q-tip, and rubbing it against my shirt. But nothing. And what makes it weirder is it dosent have scratches, fingerprints, or stains I can see. I never had a problem like this before. If anyone has advice, that will be helpful. If nothing works, I'm considering buying a new copy at GameStop or eBay.

Edit: For clarification, I am aware that this is Disc 2. Disc 1 downloaded well. So don't ask to put Disc 1 in first, please.
