News UT proposes cutting more than 100 'narrow' courses from core, starting this spring

The list of courses on the chopping block includes Modern Art of Mexico; Slavery and its Legacies; Race, Law and U.S. Society; History of Money and Corruption; Rhetoric of Cuteness; Banned Books and Novel Ideas; Global Environmental History; American Jewish History and the History of College Football.

The course cuts would be the first step in a two-year plan to completely overhaul UT’s general education curriculum that all students must take to graduate.

Other I HAVE UNCOVERD THE CABO BOB’S OPERASHUN

I aint askin questions no more.

I AM MAKIN ACCUSASHUNS.

Cabo Bob’s is a CALIFORNYAN PSYOP desined to weaken the Texan spirit one suspishusly good burrito at a time.

THINK ABOUT IT HOSS.

You walk in.

They smile atcha.

They press the tortillya FRESH.

RIGHT THERE IN FRONTA YOU.

WHY???

CUZ THEY WANT YER ASS DISTRACTED.

While yer standin there watchin that tortillya puff up like some kinda carb hydratted mind control frisbee, theyre slowly replacin yer God given Texan instincts with thoughts like:

“dang grilled fish sounds purty good”

“maybe I oughta ride a bicycle”

“public transpertashun kinda makes since”

NOOOOOOO.

WAKE UP HOSS.

A proper TEXAS burrito aint supposed to be “balanced.”

Its supposed to have enough beef cheese n beans in it to make yer heart doctor sit straight up in bed at 3AM fer no damn reason.

AND THESE CABO BOBS SUMBITCHES GOT PICKLED ONYUNS???

PICKLED???

Brother onions is sposed to make you cry cuz you cut em wrong.

They aint sposed to have a “flavor profile.”

I SEEN A MAN PUT CABBAGE ON HIS BURRITO.

CABBAGE.

ON A DAMN BURRITO.

That sumbitch probly drinks kombuchy and owns shoes without mud on em.

This is how Austin falls folks.

Not with a bang.

But with some feller behind a counter askin:

“would you like cilantro lime vinagrette?”

I WOULD LIKE THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS BACK, HOSS.

And yet.

God forgive me.

That burrito was DAMN GOOD.

10/10.

Goin back tomorrah.

Gotta gather more evidents.

Question why do people think classes being removed is a good thing? Given the obvious political meaning

i read the AustinStatesman's post on the classes being removed from core curriculum and there were a surprising amount of comments that seemed to not get the deeper meaning / celebrated the fact

are most of these troll accounts?

Question Hit and run! Advice?

Thumbnail

A car hit and run me tonight at the block on rio, right before Cabo Bob’s. (exact location is in the pic with the pin on the map) The car hit my side mirror and drove off before I could get any information. I managed to get a live photo of the car leaving, but the quality is pretty terrible. It looked like some type of sedan/sports car. Does anyone recognize the car, happen to have seen what happened, or know of any cameras around that area that might’ve caught a clearer view or plate or anything? Also, if anyone has dealt with something similar around west campus and has advice on what I should do next, I’d really appreciate it.

Question Is it inappropriate to ask a professor to talk to a student about excessive questions?

There is a student who asks so many questions in class that I feel it is, at this point, it is actively disruptive to the class (also he yawns really loudly and said yawns also sound like moans?).

Is it inappropriate to ask a professor to talk to the student about reserving his questions for office hours or some other solution?

Question How can I report my advisors?

Okay, the title is misleading, but I need pointers for escalating an issue regarding unhelpful advisors at Moody. To TL;DR an simple issue, I was told to wait for a pre-requisite waiver that my professor signed to register for a class that I've been otherwise attending regularly. The day the form was signed, my advisor told me I could add the course on my end. I couldn't. They told me to wait for the form to process and try again later. I tried again later, I couldn't. I reached out for help, didn't get an answer until AFTER the add/drop deadline. Was told that I could no longer add the course because the add/drop period ended. I've been added to classes after the add/drop period before. They swear it's out of their power so I ask for points of contact to escalate the situation further. They ignore the request and just tell me add/drop period is over and they can't do anything.

It's literally institutional incompetence, I feel like I'm being gaslit. I'm not really so emotional over it anymore, but I'm definitely ready to escalate the situation and report this incompetence. I don't appreciate advisor's getting in the WAY of my education. If anyone has any pointers please let me know, or if anyone wants to file a class action lawsuit for the incompetence of UT's student-supporting administration I'm deadass down 😂 anyways please lmk the tea.

Discussion PCL is sweltering on every floor other than ground floor

it is so hot in this library which seems so weird because i don't remember it being like this, and i feel like they usually keep libraries kinda cold. do y'all think this will get better as it gets less hot outside? or are the upper floors just unusable unless you'd like to feel like a lizard under a heat lamp and enjoy the feeling of your sweaty hands sticking to your laptop keyboard.

Discussion Scam job offer from UT career?

Thumbnail

This looked promising at first but after doing the “interview” through flock messenger app it seems kinda scammy. They said they needed my bank info so I could order $5,000 - $10,000 worth of at home office supplies paid by the company. The person messaging also made many weird typos and was very pushy when I stopped responding for 5 minutes. Just wanted to let others know/ wondering if anyone else got this.

I was walking and found it walloping some other poor squirrel. They were both absolutely screaming, so the offender must have REALLY grinded its gears lol. What this means for my future tests, I have no clue. Insight appreciated. 😥

Question Curiosity over Lot 37 parking

So I purchased the C parking permit and whenever I try to get a parking spot in lot 37, its always full. I knew it was going to be difficult because UT commuter parking is notoriously bad but im getting to campus at 8am. How early are people showing up for that lot? I keep ending up at one of the lots across the highway, but never lot 102😒. First time commuter too so 🙃. Im going to dig around this sub reddit for more answers because what in the world man.

Question Rowing as a Double Major Pre-Med

hi guys! I'm a freshman at UT and a double major premed. I rowed all through highschool and absolutely loved it, so naturally, I wanted to join Texas Crew.

I need to wake up for practices at 4:30 am, 6 days a week. For that, bedtime would have to be 9:00 so I get a decent amount of sleep. However, I only get back from classes at 6:00 daily. That gives me just 3 hours to eat, study, and get ready for bed.

Even though the answer is probably obvious... is this self sabotage? I love the sport so much, but I know gpa is one of the most important aspects to med school, and I don't want it to suffer.
