Hi,

I have a couple of questions about reco letters for UT Austin (OOS student).

1. I understand that reco letters are optional but wanted to ask, if submitted, are they due by the EA deadline of Oct 15th or EA deadline for supplemental materials of Oct 22nd.

2. UT clearly says that they prefer letters from sources outside of school. Since they take up to 2 letters, should we aim to get both of these letters from outside school. We have a research mentor and a job supervisor who can write good recos. Or is it preferable to do 1 teacher and 1 outside recommender?

I’m applying to colleges as a co 2027 senior and my absolute dream is ut Austin. I’m not an auto admit and my test scores are mid but I have a lot of leadership roles for extracurriculars. I want to major in human development and family sciences and be pre pa but idk what my chances of getting in would be. Does anyone know if this major is hard to get into with stats like mine?? I also want to do peds so I have a lot of extracurriculars regarding working with kids. Plsss any advice I’ll take

I need some advice on how to differentiate myself in getting into CSB

Right now, I basically max out the academic side and SAT side(being valedictorian/630 and having above 1570). I know thats like a baseline in this program, where everyone who gets in is top-notch. There are like 2,000 other valedictorians in Texas. I also got into one of the mccombs summer camps.

So my question is how to differentiate myself when applying to improve my chances of actually getting in. Let's say my application already had a deca national award, a fbla national award, and a couple internships and research with a professor. How do I elevate this to the next level where my chances are drastically improved? Should I focus more on the CS side because right now I feel like I have an excess in business or what should I do?

If you got in, could you maybe go over what you think differentiated you from the competition primarily?

I am 19 and have been going to a community college in Maryland but I had to move to Austin early August for work which qualifies me for in state tuition so it's either get in to UT or bust. I'm getting an associates in social sciences but want to be a political science major, I have a 4.0 and will have gotten my associates after this Winter so get to take a gap semester over Spring while I put together my application and await decision. I have a strong resumé but it's all sales experience and nothing to do with my major so I'm scared I may not get in. Is there anything I can do and add to my resume between now and March that I should focus on? Anything in specific I should know when writing my resumé? Do you guys think I'll get in? (Please be honest)

Same as the title, I am genuinely confused. As per the latest updates, terminal MS degree students are not being accepted. Given there is an option in graduate application portal to choose either between: Master's, Doctorate and Master's+Doctorate, what is the difference between PhD and MS+PhD?

Are both fully funded or is the MS part in MS+PhD self-funded like terminal MS degrees?

Also, do both PhD and MS+PhD students take same time to graduate? Or is there extra coursework for MS+PhD students?

I’ve been looking at official campus tours since the spring and nothing ever seems to be available on a Monday or Friday that works for my daughter’s school schedule.

Was pondering just going down on Saturday and soaking in the atmosphere of a game day and walking around the campus. Would we be able to walk into places like a student union or any other notable campus buildings? Not expecting residence halls.

I’m nervous about applying to The master of public accounting program. Just a background, I graduated from UTD with a 4.0 in finance and work as a financial analyst for a bank. I talked with the admissions and they answered a lot of my questions. Just very nervous. They said I shouldn’t work through this program, is that true? How did y’all get through it. I have to work, do you think this is doable?

I just submitted my application for UT Austin for Spring 2027 though the UT Austin website, right after I submitted my application, I got redirected to mystatus instead of paying the $75 fee, do we have to pay it or not as I’m really concerned and don’t want my application to get cancelled

Will not be an auto admit. Not sure what else can make the "fit to major" when applying as a Bio Major. Rigorous Math and Science coursework. Good SAT and decent EC with some leadership positions, summer activities include hospital volunteer and some chem research (after AP Chem). I was debating between Bio or Chem. Taking AP Bio now senior year. I definitely like Bio over Chem. My electives were performing arts related so no other elective exploration. Frankly, thats all I had time for with a full load at our competitive HS. I will give my best shot with the essays. How competitive is Bio at CNS ? Any other ideas or feedback that you may have while I prepare to apply. TIA

My partner is looking to apply to UT for fall of 2028, but graduated high school in 2016. Has anyone gone through this process recently? We know we have to get transcripts, proof of graduation, and take the ACT/SAT. Is there anything else I'm missing? We're wanting to get all our chickens in a row as we start hardcore saving. TIA!!!

Is it possible for someone in the second quartile (25%-50%) to still make McCombs if they redeem themselves in different places. My rank is low but by the end of high school I will have taken 15 AP classes and still had around a 3.8 UW.

In terms of ECs I have very strong ones with a couple internships, my own business, and pretty big leadership stuff.

I also got a 1500 on the SAT with me planning to retake it one more time for a 1550+.

With amazing essays how much of a chance could I expect (just a rough idea) to actually get in?

Also, I have no extenuating circumstances that affected my high school career to talk about so if I just said something basic about normal courses not interesting me would that be too stupid or nah?

I’m planning on applying to transfer to UT Austin Aerospace from another UT school. I’m a sophomore, and I know GPA is obviously a major factor, but I’m wondering what I should focus on for the rest of my application.

I’m currently involved in some aerospace research and should have a publication on space plasma by December, as well as being involved with a few university rocket projects, some work on satellite instrumentation, and some other stuff. I’m not sure how much these kinds of things matter for transfer admissions, though.

I still have quite a bit of time before I apply, so I want to do everything I can now. I know there isn’t a specific checklist for this, but if anyone here has gone through an external transfer into some engineering program, I’d really appreciate any advice!

I’m an international applicant from China. My undergraduate bachelor’s degree is in Law, not a STEM major.

However, I have hands‑on process internship experience at an FC‑BGA substrate manufacturing plant. My responsibilities included photoresist lamination, exposure, development, operating ADTEC exposure equipment, and troubleshooting process defects. I also obtained official equipment operation certification.

I’m interested in the Semiconductor Science and Engineering (MSE) master’s program at UT Austin. I know this program evaluates non‑STEM applicants on a case‑by‑case basis.

My main weakness: I do not have formal university‑level Calculus and University Physics coursework under my current law degree.
I am planning to take for‑credit Calculus and Physics courses at local public universities in China to strengthen my academic background.

I would like to ask how realistic my admission odds are. Is conditional admission allowed so I can complete preparatory undergraduate engineering courses after enrollment?
