1999 Colt Magnum Carry

Just showing the 686 I enjoyed shooting this week. I know polished stainless guns is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I felt with this one I had nothing to lose. I got it super cheap due to the fact that it was scratched pretty bad. Not a scratch here or there. It’s like somebody stored it in a thorn bush, but the thorns were made out of metal. Luckily they weren’t too deep so Mothers Magwell Polish it was. I’m interested in to see how many of you like it verse how many of you hate it. The most important part is that it functions and it functions very well if I may say so myself.

I’m realllyyyy new to revolvers, so I need some help here.

This is a 1966 Charter Arms Undercover I bought. While I mainly bought it for fun and as a collectors item, I still DEFINITELY want to shoot it, but this damage has me a little weary. I may be over reacting but due to my ignorance I’d rather be safe then sorry, and an out of time revolver would leave my hands very sorry…

I may consider sending this revolver back to the manufacturer for refurbishment as I don’t yet have a standard for how this gun should look and what’s okay. I’m sure I’m over thinking just about everything but again, I’m new here lol. Any tips?

Edit: also I need a gun cleaning kit, any suggestions? I’d want to take care of the finish and the wood.

There is a very nice mount from MachineCraftReplicas, but maybe this one would look better, if the red dot is further behind.

I struggle to decide between the two.

Super comfortable in the hand. Do I take the leap and start sanding away to fit these grips to accommodate the roc mount?

Recently I was going through guns in our family safe with my dad and found this revolver. I was curious which one it was since it’s barrel locks in the front and it swivels out, then I’m pretty sure the bullets are loaded through the front. Don’t quote me on that but that is what it looks like to me. I’m also not quite sure of the caliber either. It is circled for easier locating.

While I own other firearms already, my late father left me with a Ruger Security 6 .357 Magnum Revolver. I figured he’d still want to be around to protect the family, so I’ll be using it as my bedside defender. How many speed loaders should one have for home defense? Or what do you guys run with?

I have a 686+ and a 586 classic, I have noticed that the gap between the forcing cone and the cylinder front face is a bit larger on the 586 relative to the 686+ which has a very very small gap.

And functionally speaking what I have noticed because of this is that the 586 classic experiences 0 Cylinder binding from the front face because of residue buildup. When I start shooting magnums through the 686+ I get about 30-40 rounds through it then I begin to notice cylinder binding.

Is this an engineering thing where the more distance between the forcing cone and cylinder front face is engineered into the 586 or is it just a production variance thing?

Hi everyone I was looking for advice on budget revolvers you would recommend for deer hunting. I grew up around firearms and own a few. Every fall I go Archery and rifle hunting for deer in my homestate of Pennsylvania and am curious about handgun hunting. If I would every be fortunate enough to take a shot I would limit it to bow range. I was just wondering if 357 magnum was a ethical round for this and what barrel length you would recommend or flat out what revolvers are recommended. Thank you for any advice.

Post-2019 King Cobra 3" with some old Jay Scott faux stags

It is an early M629-1 with 8 3/8” barrel and Hogue grips. Unfortunately, it didn’t come with the box or the original target stocks. It’s a nice shooter though.

I like carrying a single action around the farm, and would like to get a 45. Leaning towards the rugers because I could use hot 45 colt for hunting and then the Acp cylinder for general use. They have so many models both Blackhawk and vaquero. Leaning towards a Blackhawk but torn between the reg grips, bisley with short barrel, birds head with med barrel… etc. just wondering if anyone has any of these and can recommend one over the other.

Not much to share, just love this gun. Got it in the used section of one of my local shops, was in decent shape and had some ugly hogue grips on em. 1976 production, 8 3/8” barrel. Trigger is out of this world, and it shoots like a damn laser.

Looked in the safe and realized I haven't shared an N frame in a while. Top is a pre model 27 beater, and two 27-2s.

I am looking to get a .38 special revolver that can shoot +P ammunition. I don’t want to buy new, due to all of the QC issues, especially at S&W. In what years did the big manufacturers start to make the revolvers able to take +P?

My wife and I already have two model 19s, so I know I can safely shoot .38 special from it or any other older .357 magnum revolvers, but I would like to get a .38 special revolver like the Models 10, 15, 36 or their Colt and Ruger counterparts.

S&W 340PD, the lightest 357 magnum. AKA, the lightest 38 special. Paired with a Vedder pocket holster and a long road trip.

Long story short:

I sent my brand new model 27-9 in for warranty repair. The forcing cone was marring up the cylinder face. It was scratched up pretty bad. Smith and Wesson say they fixed it and sent it back.

I received the gun. First thing I notice, the bluing on the cylinder is matte. It doesnt match the rest of the gun at all. The work order form says they only refinished the cylinder. I have life and work so I put the gun away and decide to worry about it later.

Shoot the gun, notice the cylinder is still getting marred. Call smith again, now sending 27-9 in for warranty repair a second time. They assured me they would get it right this time. Last slide is the note i left in the box for this 2nd warranty repair.

Additional details:

Smith sent an invoice in trying to charge me $110 after I sent the gun in the first time. I raised hell. They said it was a mistake. Whatever. Lady on the phone said the Head Gunsmith will personally look at my revolver. I think thats absolutely bullshit. This is garbage tier work. WILL NEVER BUY A NEW SMITH

I never carry it unless I'm hiking or camping, but it just occurred to me how absolutely atrocious this holster is. The trigger is completely exposed and the weapon itself doesn't have a safety, plus the retention strap doesn't really do anything so when I inevitably eat shit on some rocks it's probably gonna fly out. 38 caliber hole in the thigh just waiting to happen.

Should I spend $250 on a leather shoulder holster so I can LARP as a 60s detective?

I like the look of the Smith's 3in model 24s. Can I buy a new N frame and shorten it?
