GPT-6 Astra is here, with OpenAI calling it “a generational leap in capability”.

A few of the headline benchmarks:

- ARC- AGI 3 – 98.6% (!), compared to 7.8% for 5.6 Sol

- Exploit-Bench (cybersecurity) - 100% (!)

- FrontierMath Tier 4 (v2) - 97.6%, vs. 87.8% for Fable 5.1

- DeepSWE v1.1 - 74.1%, vs. 67.4% for Fable 5.1

This seems pretty damning -- notwithstanding the other benchmarks that OpenAI published. It really gave me pause that Astra (max) is tied with Sol (max), as it suggests no improvement whatsoever, at least on the composite AA benchmark. I'm not saying that's how it will feel in practice, but that's the initial takeaway. And if people are moving toward trusting the AA numbers rather than cherry-picked numbers from the foundries themselves, then this looks pretty bad.

The jump is massive and just wondering if Astra hacked it's way just like the hugging face incidence.

If it did it's a smart move by the model but might be worrying for the future of benchmarks. Can we trust a model to really pass or does it just always hack it's way out.

Everyone keeps sharing these "mind-blowing" videos and benchmarks for OpenAI's upcoming Astra model. I absolutely hate this PR strategy of giving access to a select few just to build artificial hype, and I don't find these curated demos realistic at all.If OpenAI is so confident that Astra is their next major leap, why not just release it to the public? How reliable are these carefully selected benchmarks anyway? If they really believe in the product, they should open it up so we can test its real-world limits and see where it actually fails, rather than hiding behind a "coming soon" label. Is anyone else tired of this fake scarcity marketing? Let us use it or stop teasing it.

Sorry for stupid question

As a former programmer and a current housewife of AI models I can say this with confidence: AI cannot replace programmers, it writes code that is working, as intented. I never seen any programmer other than Terry Davis writes code that works on the first try. I love how exponential everything is, we got Terry Davis level coding agents that we can access and use for our work.

Well, we all know what happened today/is still happening for some.

Whether OpenAI is or is not launching Astra today or tomorrow, that is not the reason that Gemini, Grok , Claude (and numerous other websites) went down.

HOW do people think Astra would cause that, exactly? And....why? I mean, that that cannot be the reason is not even tech knowledge, that is just common sense.

OpenAI has confirmed that Astra itself is coming, and wants the model to retain project state and user corrections across long-running jobs.

The idea sounds useful until a correction ages badly. A rule such as "use UTC in this repository" may belong in project memory. An instruction to skip one flaky test today probably should expire. If the agent stores both the same way, its behavior a week later becomes hard to explain.

I would want to click on a strange tool action and see which saved correction caused it. From there I should be able to inspect the original message, change its scope, delete it, or give it an expiration date. A memory screen that only says the agent learned my preferences would not help much when one of those preferences is wrong.

Durable instructions could also live in a store owned by the project and be replayed when a run starts. Then a request routed through TokenRouter or another gateway can change models without losing the correction history. The history stays portable even when two models interpret the same instruction differently.

This is the part I would notice every day. Saving a correction sounds useful. Finding the bad one six runs later is where the product either earns trust or becomes maddening.

astra is just releasing and along with fable. these things are clearly superhuman at symbolic/abstract work. yet. no useful robots yet.

deepminds strong agi metric was somethign that was doing most of the economic work. modern ai isnt even doing 10% of it yet is clearly approaching literal super intelligence on many metrics. code, literature review... now even math.

what this means for intelligence i dont know. maybe humans just arent that good at knowledge work. after all, weve only been manipualting symbols with language for like, 100k years at most. vs the 2b years evolution has been doing its thing.

i just feel like its gonna be a really unusual world where we have GPT7 solve literally all of math and somehow, may not be able to take over the world with a robot army yet.
