I've been trying to figure out what the biggest retcon/change to background is for each character. So far here's what I've come up with:

Superman: Being raised by the Kents

Batman: Being raised by Alfred

Wonder Woman: Hippolyta being WW first

Flash: Speedforce

Green Lantern: Being friends with Sinestro

Aquaman: Being Atlantean

Martian Manhunter: Being the last of his kind

Hawkman and Hawkgirl: Being from outerspace

Supergirl: Being born before Superman

Robin: Growing up to be Nightwing

Wondergirl: Being Donna Troy

John Stewart: Being a marine

Aqualad: Having a name

Shazam: Being named Shazam

Plastic Man: Existing in DC universe (This one actually applies to a lot of characters but I only listed Plastic Man for simplicity's sake)

What are your thoughts? Anything you disagree with or any other characters you would add?

Edit: Yes Dick becoming Nightwing is a retcon. No, a retcon is not exclusively about changing a character's past, it's about changing the story's narrative or continuity which includes making changes to a character's future. For example, Dick becoming Nightwing and passing on the title of Robin to Jason was not originally intended as part of the narrative as the mantle of Robin was not originally supposed to be a stepping stone to another identity. Yes it makes sense both in and out of universe for Dick to become Nightwing, yes it's character growth, but that doesn't mean it's not a retcon. No, retcons are not a bad thing, in fact I think most of these examples are good retcons.

They've already started it with Flash, as Wally is the main man now, again.

But i genuinely believe, the mainline DC universe would get much more interrsting, fresh & fun. If we finally stopped adsing new Legacy characters, and actually letring the older ones live up to their Legacy.

Which means retiring the og JL Members and having the og Teen Titans, Kyle Rayner, Ryan Cho, Jamie Reyes & others permanently take over the mantle.

Which would also open up space for newer legacy characters to take on new roles in the universe, as they are no longer overshadowed by previous sidekicks.

“Space Jam syndrome” is when an adaptation of popular characters takes on a more “hip” and commercially-minded approach to appeal to younger fans and those unfamiliar with the brand. It becomes a considerable success, but established fans get very annoyed by the changes to the characters, and it arguably hurts the brand in the long run…

The textbook example of Space Jam Syndrome that come to my mind are Batgirl’s Burnside run…

I tried the first 4-5 issues of Absolute Flash when they first released, but it didn't really land for me. The pacing felt slow and there just wasn't the immediate interest I had in all the other Absolute titles.

Now that it's had more time, I'm wondering if it's worth a second try. I know some people read it and loved it from the beginning, but has anyone felt it's improved since it's gone on? Or left the run and come back? Is it worth it?

So I’m just getting into comics especially green lantern as he is like always been my fav and the passion has been reignited by the show and guy gardeners appearance in the new superman, I’m finding it really hard to track where dc is. Can someone explain if the new 52 is the current timeline or if there is a better one worth trying to read instead. I will probably still read the new 52 as the GL comic is very enjoyable so far but i wanted to know whether it was woth looking for other comic runs within the new 52 or somewhere else

Got me two new comics for my collection, should I have them graded?

I have a character who is a Saint pacifist, kind, tolerant and patient to the core; not matter what my character never has a reason to not to be kind; so ¿How much skeptical Batman, red hood and Damian would be about whether my character is really like that or not? And ¿Which Gotham villains would be just as suspicious about my character?

Looking through all DC offers what the people think about lanterns so far? Without spoiling anything, what is the reaction to production and plot lines and even the actors themselves? So just curious because I'm looking for something genuinely good to start watching.

I am new to this and I really don't understand a lot of things that this can do, but I am excited to be able to you know kind of look into some of the other series and characters that I've never have really learned that much about. I used to really like Green lantern comic books and had a pretty big collection. I would say that I was into marvel and DC pretty equally.

Okay, is anyone else watching the secondary market for the SDCC 2026 Lanterns rings right now?

Because this has gotten absolutely insane.

Not long ago I was seeing these rings change hands for around $50–$100.

Now:

One Size 10 just SOLD for $510 after 39 bids.

And that's apparently not even an isolated bidding war.

There's currently another Size 10 sitting at $440 with 42 bids and almost FIVE DAYS LEFT.

A Size 7 is already at $404.

A Size 12 with the Lanterns box is at $305 with 15 bids.

And another sealed Size 10 is at $295 with 20 bids.

Some of these auctions still have DAYS remaining.

What the hell happened? 😂

I understand why they're desirable. They're actual SDCC 2026 Lanterns activation pieces, they glow in the dark, they're tied directly to the HBO/DC event, and unlike normal merchandise there seems to be a genuinely limited supply of originals.

But watching something that was basically a convention giveaway suddenly turn into a $300–$500+ collectible this quickly is wild.

And now replicas are starting to appear too, including metal versions, which makes the whole thing even more interesting.

Do you guys think the replicas eventually cool the market down?

Or could they have the opposite effect and make collectors care even MORE about having an authentic SDCC activation ring?

Because at this point I'm genuinely wondering where the ceiling is.

Some spoilers for absolute Green Lantern, I suppose.

After catching up on absolute green lantern I find myself liking the general power system and themeing of the Absolute universes version of the lanterns to be more interesting, with the colors being more tied to how one acts and their philosophies on those actions than emotions.

This is not to say that it is better, rather that I feel this... monastic and philosophical take on the Lanterns is much more interesting and resonatory to me.

I was thinking about Martha Wayne as joker from the Reverse-flash universe that I realized how cool a female version of theJoker can be. The problem is that every time I’ve seen she’s always more of an anti-hero. Even though the Harley from the Harley Quinn show has done some scummy stuff, she’s still not a villain like Joker.
