Art Showcase Almost a month of low-poly 3D — here’s what I’ve made so far

I started learning 3D modeling about a month ago. I mostly make low-poly characters from games and anime that I like.

Here are some of the characters I’ve made so far. I’m still learning and getting more familiar with Blender.

I’ve also been posting my models on X throughout this month.

What do you think of my first 3D works?

Questions & Discussion How do I find work as a 3D modeller with no higher education and very low income?

I’m a 21 year old 3D artist that makes dinosaurs in Nomad Sculpt. I’m under alot of stress from struggling with finding work and battling depression. I would love to work for a toy, model, game or film making company but I have little faith in myself from a lack of education and underdeveloped social skills. I could use some advice and hope.

Art Showcase This dagger was my third-ever hand-painted 3D project.

The dagger was modeled in Blender, painted in 3DCoat + Photoshop, and based on a concept by the mighty Baldi Konijn. No AI used.

I made this dagger to really solidify my new workflow. The model looked pretty simple from a modeling perspective, but it turned out there was actually quite a bit to figure out. You've probably seen this concept modeled by a lot of different artists already (and maybe you've even seen my version before xD).

This project became something new for me, but in a completely different way.

I don't really care about likes on ArtStation that much (only in case it helps a project stay on the main page for as long as possible and maybe get noticed by an art lead looking for an artist for their team xD), but this one really blew up. I made it relatively quickly, and it got about twice as many likes as my most popular project ever. It also completely outperformed all the illustrations I'd spent tons of time and effort on, carefully thinking through every detail.

After these two weapons (this dagger and the axe from my previous post) some really cool artists from studios where I'd love to work started following me. And that was very strange, at the time, besides looking for a fulltime illustration job, I was also trying to make it as a commission artist. That meant putting a lot of effort into social media and visibility. And despite all that effort, I never managed to get a stable stream of commissions. With 3d, I wasn't even trying to do anything special. I considered these my first learning projects, and didn't really think they had much artistic value beyond that.

And of course, I had a ton of fun working on this dagger.

This was also the point when I realized that I'd really, truly moved on from 2d illustration to 3d. It wasn't just me trying something new anymore.

Art Help & Critique I'm starting 3d modelling

This post is an art help & critique.

So I've accidentally uploaded them in the wrong order, from latest to oldest, but I just wanted advice on how I'm doing as a newbie 3d modelling. I'm an artist mainly but I decided to pick it up because I've had the thought of starting before. Im using nomad sculpt on my phone. The first one I did, the na'vi, was 3 days ago on Tuesday. (3 am Friday as of writing this now). The girl I made on Wednesday and Thursday I made the guy. I think I've done pretty well using what skills I have in art and trying to translate that into 3d.

Yes, I'm aware they're a bit ugly, but I've only just, started, so what can you do about it?

Hello! Here is a Tulip Lamp (design by Tiffany Studios in 1910) I made recently during the "Back in Time" challenge by Sierra Division. It was a lot of fun, took the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and learn sculpting. Texturing the stained glass was also a very interesting task to solve. You can see more renders and a turntable on my artstation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/o0bX1z

I was inspired by Michał Sałata's concept art for fantasy weapon concepts and decided to make this stylized Seahorse Axe.

It was a fun model to work on, I learned a lot throughout the process! This was also my first time hand-painting textures, and I'm happy with how it turned out! Hope you like it as well!

Art Showcase A forest cabin on a forgotten clearing

A while ago, I posted one of the early drafts of this project. I’ve spent some more time polishing it, and here’s the final result. It’s definitely missing a process breakdown, but I thought about it too late. I’ll make sure to include one in my next work — or more precisely, learn how to do it.

Thanks for checking it out!

Trees & Bark: Procedurally modeled the trees in SpeedTree, then baked and textured the bark maps in Substance Painter. Scene Optimization: To keep the viewport smooth and prevent Arnold from crashing during render, I converted all trees and moss clusters into Arnold .ass proxies.

Scattering: Used Maya MASH for all vegetation distribution and roof shingle placement.

Lighting & Atmosphere: Set up the volumetric fog using native Maya and Arnold tools (aiAtmosphereVolume and Fluids).

Rendering & Trade-offs: Rendered in Arnold. Due to hardware limitations, I had to rely heavily on the OIDN denoiser, which left some areas a bit overly smooth/soft unfortunately, the only viable compromise for my setup right now.

Texturing & Post-Processing: Decided to skip a full texturing pass on the cabin itself to keep the focus purely on shape, light, and atmosphere. Did final color grading and minor polish in Photoshop.

Art Help & Critique Good way to model this style of forearm in 3D? (Blender and/or Blockbench)

Thumbnail

I'm working on the arms and hands on a model, and I'm aiming for this kind of style where the forearm widens at the wrist instead of narrowing, as shown with the references in the first image.

Thing is, I can't figure out how it should look in 3D without the hands looking odd, the fingers being too big to accommodate that, or the whole thing just turning into Popeye's arms; the model in the second and third pics is an earlier attempt at the hand.

Any advice or examples for how to do this decently?

Really happy with how she turned out. What do you guys think?
And of course, I’d love to see your prints if anyone decides to make her!
