Moderator Post Attention WLU Students: Mental Health Resources Available

Hello students,

There has been a concerning increase in the frequency of posts and comments regarding fears, depression, loneliness, and other concerns relating to mental health and wellbeing.

We are aware that it is a very stressful time especially with midterms ongoing so the moderator team would like to ensure that all students are aware of the resources available to Laurier students on the student wellness centre website. There are a variety of services available meant to cater to you and your needs. These services are available to all students and should be taken advantage of. These services also include counselling, which is covered by your student insurance and the student services fees that you have already paid for.

Below are some other resources for students in need of urgent help:

- Good2talk.ca (Call 1-866-925-5454 or Text GOOD2TALKON to 686868) for 24/7 support
- Kids Help Phone (Call 1-800-668-6868 or Text 686868)

- The Suicide Crisis Helpline (Call or text 988)
- Call here 24/7 anytime Call Here 24/7 anytime [1-844-437-3247](tel:1-844-437-3247)
- Call Laurier's Special Constable Service 519-885-3333

- Emergency Services (Call 911)

This post is being made purely for informational purposes. We want to foster a safe and inclusive environment both online and on campus. However, many first year students (and upper years) are not aware of the professional help that is available to them.

Please take care of yourselves and reach out to your friends who you know are struggling or not in a good mental space.

Moderator Post WLU & UW Student Housing Community

Hi WLU!

This subreddit is often filled with housing related questions and advertisements. We want to keep this community less like a rent space bulletin board and more so a place where students can socialize and help one another.

However, we know how important it is to find roommates and housing near campus. So the mods team has launched r/RentInWaterloo, a dedicated subreddit for UW and WLU students to find roommates, housing, sublets, and lease takeovers in Waterloo.

The goal is to keep housing posts centralized, student-only, and scam-aware, instead of flooding both r/uwaterloo and r/wlu.

If you’re currently looking for housing (or will be soon), feel free to check it out or post. Hope this helps!

Schedule difficulty

Post image

Hey health scis! I’m just wondering how difficult this course load would be and how difficult a 10.5 - 12 GPA would be. Is there any gpa killer courses other than the obvious bio and chem and how can I stay on top of things. If anyone can give some detailed advice it would be really appreciated and what differences can I expect from high school?

Question TV subscription question

Okay this is probably gonna be one of the stupider questions asked on here but I'm getting ready to move into my dorm room this Saturday and I'm bringing along a TV to stream shows... Will I need to subscribe to my own streaming services, or can I still login to my families account?

This is genuinely one of the stupidest things I've had to ask, but I'm getting conflicting answers.

Met the requirement for BTM co-op but still denied?

My overall gpa is above 7.0 but I just got a email saying that I was denied even through on the website it states that those who have an 7.0 or above will be granted an interview. For reference my gpa is 7.7, I’m studying at the Milton campus.

Deferring a deferred exam

I have an EC303 exam tomorrow that I deferred due to medical reasons. Issue is I’ve been experiencing panic attacks since yesterday and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to give the exam tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience deferring an already deferred exam? And did it go through or what?

Please help out, exams in 12 hours and I don’t know what to do.

ST259 before ma104

I'm taking st259 with Makarov first semester. I haven't taken ma104 but have taken ma103, ma121, and ma122 instead. I found ma103 alright, I got an A. Am I cooked for taking this before ma104?

Also any tips/suggestions would be great!

first year socializing advice for those anxious

since I keep seeing incoming first years post about it:

my credentials are clinical anxiety diagnosed 6 years ago so you can trust me cuz I am truly the weakest link and still made it

even if you think it will be bad, even if the first several weeks or first months are bad, just stick it out and keep trying. try to join clubs oriented around your interest. don’t worry about keeping in contact with every single person you meet in your first weeks, you probably are not meant to be with most of them.
Stick through the difficulty, I guarantee you will find people it just takes time. I cried a lot the first few months.

clubs are a great place, try to put yourself in places where people will have similar interests/upbringings so you have something to relate to them with. Similar hometowns or shared hobbies obviously are good kickoff points. clubs are a great way, any event where you repeatedly see similar people are great. I loved fylp.

remember that friendships take time to build and it’s almost always a bit awkward at first. keep pushing yourself, and also, don’t be hard on yourself when you can’t. be patient with yourself and you’ll be ok. you won’t get along with everyone, and you don’t need to; you will find your people.

MA100 Final Exam Spring 2026 — Any Advice?

Hey! I wasn’t able to write the MA100 final for the Spring 2026 term because I got really sick that morning, so I’ll be writing the deferred exam.
For anyone who wrote the MA100 final this Spring 2026, how was it overall? Was it similar in difficulty/style to the practice final that was posted? I remember the actual midterm being pretty similar to the practice midterm, so I’m wondering if the final was like that too.
Also, if you took MA100 in a previous term and have any advice for the final, I’d really appreciate it! Were there certain topics or types of questions that were especially important to know? Anything you recommend focusing on while studying for the deferred exam?
Thank you!! 😭

Discussion Orientation Volunteer 2026

I have been selected for Icebreaker volunteer this year. My concern is I can only be on campus until 5 pm every day for the orientation week. Actually I have to be with my dad who is a last stage cancer patient and lately his health has started deteriorating. Can I leave early everyday or shall I withdraw my name from the list ? I was not aware that I had to commit for 12-13 hours a day or else I would’ve not applied. Please advise! TIA.

Question Will my account be put on hold if I don’t pay the full bit the Sep 10 deadline?

My osap hasn’t come in on time which leaves me screwed for the first bill.

If I make small payments towards my invoice will my account still get put on hold? I know about the late fee charge but I’m willing to pay it as long as I don’t get kicked out of my classes.

Question How do you actually make friends at Laurier?

I’m starting my first year at Laurier and I’m honestly pretty extremely shy/introverted, so I’m kind of nervous
about making friends.

I keep hearing people say “just go to frosh, orientation, Homecoming, clubs, etc.” and I definitely want to try those things, but I’m wondering… what do you actually do when you’re there?. Like, do you literally just walk up to a random person and start talking to them? How do you turn that into actually becoming friends?

I’m also wondering if it’s normal to try making friends online beforehand. If anyone else is also starting first year and looking for people to talk to/hang out with, feel free to DM me on Reddit! I’d be down to meet some new people and hopefully make some friends.

Basically, if you’re also awkward/shy and don’t really know what you’re doing, you’re definitely not alone 😂

Helping with some info (housing related)

Is there any way I can find off campus housing other than the links/websites they give us to narrow down our choices? Seems like there are so many more student housing places. Maybe a discord if there is one? I just wanna stay for a couple of months to a year because of how my schedule works. Thank you!

CH250 Gerlach vs Horsman

I’m currently enrolled in CH250 with James Gerlach in the fall but I’m seeing mixed reviews on rate my prof. Geoff Horsman is teaching CH250 in the winter so I want to get people’s opinion on both and which you would recommend. I’m going into my 3rd year of health science!

I'm considering the social work program at Laurier. Anyone who's in the program or was in the past, is there a lot of group work? I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else missing the payment plan option on their LORIS account?

I recently learned there is a pilot payment program and the due date is tomorrow at 11:59pm. This actually really helps me, so I wanted to apply. However, I followed the instructions on the wlu website and I'm not seeing the button to apply. I sent an email to [collections@wlu.ca](mailto:collections@wlu.ca) but I fear with the busy time of year and so close to the deadline, that I will not hear back in time. I fit all the requirements. I am just wondering if anyone else out there has encountered this same barrier? It is a pilot program so I expect technological bugs might be the case here. Is it just me?

Thanks!
