since I keep seeing incoming first years post about it:
my credentials are clinical anxiety diagnosed 6 years ago so you can trust me cuz I am truly the weakest link and still made it
even if you think it will be bad, even if the first several weeks or first months are bad, just stick it out and keep trying. try to join clubs oriented around your interest. don’t worry about keeping in contact with every single person you meet in your first weeks, you probably are not meant to be with most of them.
Stick through the difficulty, I guarantee you will find people it just takes time. I cried a lot the first few months.
clubs are a great place, try to put yourself in places where people will have similar interests/upbringings so you have something to relate to them with. Similar hometowns or shared hobbies obviously are good kickoff points. clubs are a great way, any event where you repeatedly see similar people are great. I loved fylp.
remember that friendships take time to build and it’s almost always a bit awkward at first. keep pushing yourself, and also, don’t be hard on yourself when you can’t. be patient with yourself and you’ll be ok. you won’t get along with everyone, and you don’t need to; you will find your people.
