iPad or android tablet

I am planning to buy tablet for note taking and solve problems on my courses(calc and phys essentially). But I don’t know which one to choose. On one hand ipad will be compatible with macbook and 100% will be enough. On the other hand there should be android tablets a bit cheaper and better. I’m not planning to do heavy stuff on it most likely only note taking, solving problems, reasing/editing pdfs, and media consuming. I was thinking of ipad a16 with usb c pencil, and my budget for tablet and pencil for it is somewhat $770 at most

UPD:
Maybe I should add that I use macbook and a pixel

Which tablet can I get to replace my laptop during work travel and for media consumption?

I do a lot of day and one night trips for work travel. I hate carrying a heavy laptop plus its brick charger because I barely need it but there have been instances, more than once, when not carrying it has backfired.

I’m looking for a cellular+WiFi tablet that can:

Replace the laptop when I am traveling: Handle basic Office tasks when emergencies pop up. 90% of my work is reading and working on word documents, excel spreadsheets, PDFs and emails.
Replace my secondary Android phone: Take a physical/eSIM so I can ditch carrying two phones.
Media & leisure: Netflix, YouTube, Reddit, and social media in general on a bigger screen.

Has anyone gone this route? Which tablet fits this best? And does Excel/Word on a tablet feel too frustrating compared to a real laptop?

Should I get the MatePad Pro 12.2(2025) for $275?

I got an iPad Air M3 13-inch for an insane price (300), but I’m thinking about selling it because I don’t feel like I need that much iPad for what I’d use it for, and I could get a lot more back for it.

I found a used Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 2025 for $275 with the M-Pencil Pro. It’s the Chinese MRDI-W00 version: 12GB/256GB, HarmonyOS 6.1. The seller says Google Drive, Gmail, and YouTube work, but it’s the newer non-Android HarmonyOS, so apps have to be handled through its compatibility stuff and you can’t just install normal APKs.

I’d mainly use it for handwritten college notes, PDFs, drawing, Plex, and YouTube. I already have a laptop, so this wouldn’t be my only school device.

Would you make that swap? The MatePad seems way better value for notes/drawing and the screen looks amazing, but I’m worried about app compatibility long term.

Main questions:

  • How annoying is HarmonyOS 6 for college stuff like Google Classroom, Canvas, Drive uploads, etc.?
  • Best way to get non-Huawei apps on it, and can you get most things you’d realistically need?
  • Does Plex work well with high-quality 4K/H.265 files?
  • Is YouTube really stuck at 1080p on this model?
  • Is the iPad Air still worth keeping just for the smoother app ecosystem, even if it feels like overkill?

I can test the MatePad in person before buying. Curious what you’d do.

Help me find this weird old Android tablet from ~2014-2016 with exposed gold magnetic charging contacts on the back!

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to identify an old Android tablet I used back when I was in primary school (around 2014–2016). It was a gift from a family friend, and it had some extremely specific hardware features that I haven't been able to match with standard main-brand tablets.

Here are all the exact details I remember:

  • Charging / Back Panel: On the back panel, there were exposed, circular, gold-colored magnetic charging contacts (pogo pin style). It looked almost like a golden dot printed on the back where a magnetic charger snapped on. It was NOT wireless/Qi charging—it was direct magnetic contact. It ALSO had a standard Micro USB port for charging.
  • Buttons: The power and volume buttons were silver, circular, and textured/knurled. They were clicky physical buttons. (At one point, they detached or broke off, but could be put back in and still functioned).
  • OS / Software: It ran an early Android version (Android 3.x Honeycomb or Android 4.x Ice Cream Sandwich / Jelly Bean era).
  • Games I Played On It: I vividly remember playing Mad Dex (the 2d platformer where you play as a red character saving his girlfriend) and an island survival game.

Does anyone recognize this tablet model or know of any obscure / regional Android tablets from that era that had exposed circular gold charging contacts on the back cover alongside a Micro USB port? Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Tablet for student

Hello,

I'm looking for a tablet—inexpensive but effective (it would be great with a stylus)

Overall, it's for going online to check coursework, reading PDFs and books, taking notes, drawing, and gaming (light games).

I was considering the Lenovo Tab M11 (because it comes with a stylus, protective case, and keyboard bundle), but the reviews are either really good or really bad, so I don't know who to believe 😅

Or maybe the Redmi Pad 2 but I didn't find it with a stylus.

As a student, I don't have a huge budget (I've only worked a little).

So, a maximum of 200€.

Thank 🙌

What should I know before I finalise Xiaomi Pad 7?

It’s only for study. It’ll be handling notes and with me each day in and out of classes.
I will not be gaming more than once or twice a month for an hour a session. I thought of the One-plus Pad 2 Go but apparently the stylus isn’t great, and Lenovo (not the pros) isn’t being recommended by GPT to me.

I am very confused between these three and I tried out Lenovo tab and stylus, it was a very so-so experience. I am unaware of anything else about these tablets and am basing my judgement off of the internet.

So what should I do and know before locking in Xiaomi as my final decision with no regret?

Dark Go 10.3 Gen II (compared to Kobo Sage)

I bought a 2nd hand go 10.3 Gen II. The sipping was delayed because owner said the screen broke and got it fixed (within less than 2 weeks which seems improbable from what I read on Boox's warranty services). I was expecting a super bright screen (latest gen with no front-light) and instead my Kobo Sage appears brighter.

What's suspect is that there's a DOA (Defective on Arrival) sticker on the box which seems to tell a different story from the one told from the seller.

https://imgur.com/a/8Syj2bt

  1. Is this normal or can I consider the product defective and return it?

  2. There's a redacted (hiding seller's identity/address) paper invoice+the repair stickers on the box; any chance I can verify the repair history (of course without getting access to personal data) ?

thanks!

Has anyone tried Blackview Active 12 Pro?

My friends and I often go car camping and sometimes we watch movies at night. We are using a tablet, but once there's a group of us, the screen gets cramped.

So recently I've been looking for something for group viewing, like the Blackview Active 12 Pro, a tablet with built-in projector. If it can throw a decent-sized image at night, that would be much more comfortable than having everyone huddle around a small screen.

But still wonder that is it actually useful when you do carry your tablet car camping, how clear is the image when you're projecting outdoors at night? or getting an extra portable projector is better?

Tech Setup for Finance & Economics: Samsung Ecosystem (Tab S11 Ultra for €800) vs. 13" iPad (Air/Pro M4) vs. Laptop/MacBook?

Hey everyone!

I'm about to start university studying Finance and Business Management, and I'm facing the classic tech dilemma regarding which device is best for taking notes, studying, and organizing coursework.

Here are my main questions:

* Samsung Ecosystem vs. 13" iPad: I found a Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra for €800. Since I already use a Galaxy phone and watch, staying within the Samsung ecosystem would offer seamless integration. On the other hand, if I were to go with Apple, I’d aim for a 13-inch iPad (either the Air M4 or Pro M4) with high storage capacity. However, those models are significantly more expensive, and I'd prefer not to overspend. For university use (stylus note-taking, reading PDFs, multitasking), are iPad-exclusive study apps really superior enough to justify the price jump and leaving my current ecosystem?

* Tablet vs. Laptop / MacBook: For a Finance/Economics degree, does it make sense to rely primarily on a tablet for lectures if I pair it with an older, lower-spec PC at home when needed? Or is a dedicated primary laptop (like a MacBook or Windows laptop) practically mandatory for heavy Excel work, statistical software, and writing papers?

I’d love to hear from anyone studying Economics or Finance: how do you manage your tech setup for daily lectures and home studying?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Looking for a good tablet under ₹25K for studying and editing

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to buy a tablet mainly for studying, taking notes, reading PDFs, watching lectures, etc. I also want to use it for some basic video/photo editing.

My budget is around ₹25,000 in India.

My main priorities are:

  • Good display
  • Smooth performance and multitasking
  • Good battery life
  • Good for note-taking and PDFs
  • Can handle basic editing
  • Good storage and RAM
  • Stylus support would be a plus

I’m currently looking at tablets from OnePlus, Lenovo, Samsung, Xiaomi/Redmi and a few others.

What would be the best tablet under ₹25K for my requirements? I’m mainly looking for the best value for money and something that will last a few years.

Would appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences.
