Germantown Friends School and Zionism

This school claims to follow the Quaker values that were instrumental in its founding, yet one zionist staff member has hamstrung the entire admin board. Speaking out against the atrocities or showing for support for the Palestinian people gets you accused of anti antisemitism. This one staff is known for cornering people, harassing them, and being a general problem for staff that don't align with his beliefs. I'm not looking for a big call to action, mostly just venting because it hurts to watch this place reject its core values over something that Quakers would never support.

does anyone know where to get a free professional headshot?

The libraries used to offer it but they are currently suspending it and I’m not sure why. I regret not having gone when I had the chance. I also know they have them at colleges but I’m currently not a student either. Does anyone know where else I can get a free professional headshot? If it comes to, I’ll pay out of pocket.

Local Business Needs Help: Pleasure Platters - Fridge Damaged

Thumbnail instagram.com
Upvotes

A teenager threw a brick and broke one of the fridge doors/windows after they were asked not to solicit in her store. Please support and share any resources.

The only thing I could think of was Victims Services, but I'm not sure if they pay for business damage.

Any other ideas or thoughts how to help - I'd love to hear from other store owners. I don't have a store front, I'm stumped other than identifying the teenager and making them and/or the parents pay for damage?

Please no racist comments or rants - I want to focus on helping the business. Thank you

Teens damage stuff/commit crimes everywhere (not just Philly) it's not right - but it happens.

FYI: A break-down of what the school's 26,433 positions do, broken down into 10 job families, of which ~37% are teachers

So the School District of Philadelphia's April 2026 roster shows 26,433 positions, which can be broken into 10 types of jobs.

The first and largest is actually teachers (about 9,686 in the 25-26 school year), or about 37% of the total. Hoenstly, I was surprised that teachers were less than 75%, but TBH, that's a stupid misconception on my part because I wasn't thinking about how many other people it takes to keep a school running (e.g., janitors to clean the schools - my dad was one for his entire working life; people to proces payroll, etc.)

The next biggest bucket was school support at 5,920 people. This is a catch all term that I'l double click into in the future, but incldues social workers, nurses, career counsillors, etc.

Food services appears the smallest at 99 ppl, which apparently shrunk by 90% over the last decade (from ~1000 people). But that's a data artifact — cafeteria workers now sit in school-based orgs and get counted under school support, not central. The other 7 buckets are building services (custodians, trades), school admin (principals, APs), transportation (bus drivers, depot staff), safety (school police), central office (lawyers, analysts, directors), per-diem, and a small "other" catch-all.

The headcount has grown by aroudn ~30% of the last decade and I'll share some data in a few days when I finish the math about which job families grew/shrunk the most when I have a sec.

Digitizing Academy of Natural Sciences

Since the Academy of Natural Sciences is sadly closing, does anyone know what’s the best way to capture the exhibits? I would love to create a virtual 360 tour of the museum like how they have for the Louvre but that is way beyond my skills.

Maybe there’s an app or something? My kids love their dioramas so worst case I would probably just do 3D pictures on my iPhone. But if anyone is more tech/art savvy with digitizing, please let me know other options. Or if you have the skills for creating virtual tour, maybe we can collab?

parking at The Ave Live

I know there's already a few posts about this issue, but I'm hoping to get more current advice on where I should park in order to not get my car jacked or my physical well-being threatened as a solo female. My current choice is the parking lot next to the lukoil, but I saw a couple concerning reviews about it so I'm having doubts 🥲 Am I better off parking in a monitored garage in a different part of philly and ubering, or is there a decent spot nearby for me to walk from?

Neighbor has squirrels living in their cornice

My neighbors have a family of squirrels that have taken shelter in the cornice on the front of their house. We're in rowhomes and I share a wall with them. The squirrels seem to have had babies and the little ones have a hard time getting back up the wall so they chill on our shared stoop and cry. My dog lovessssssssss it (/s) and it drives me insane.

I've left them a note letting them know that they have squirrels in their cornice, without voicing any of my own personal annoyances about it, and they've done nothing about it, nor contacted me.

Is there anything I could or should do about this or am I just being a PITA?

Does anybody recognize this dear old friend of mine who stole my trash can from my property around 4PM today? I’m located in Tacony, right off of Frankford Ave. Will send a fresh baked loaf of banana bread to anyone with leads on tracking down my old pal.

(Vid of him strolling away with my trash can in the comments)

Clubs to join to meet 30-something men?

I’m giving up on the dating apps to try to meet someone organically. I have a pretty robust social life, but I realized most of my hobbies are exclusively or majority women. Where are some good places to meet guys (preferably ones that are nice and can hold a conversation lol)

(2x) Emarosa Tickets - Reselling

Hey Philly,

I've got 2 Tickets to the Emarosa show tonight (9/3/26) at The Underground Arts.

Doors at 7, show @ 8pm. Openers include: VEAUX, Slo/Tide & Dreamfone.

I can't make it unfortunately. I'd be happy to sell both of these for $40 total. That's a bit less than half of what I bought them for. DM me & I can take cash app or venmo & ill do a direct transfer via their "Tixr" app. You'll need to make an account for that.

First come, first served.

Thanks y'all!

Good news day for job growth (Burlington HQ moving to Schuylkil Yards) and now this branch office of a local heavyweight.

About 100 good jobs coming to Curtis Center.

Wish they'd move the entire operation from Exton but baby steps 🚶‍♀️

Nice, quiet places to spread some ashes

Lost two of my kitties a couple years ago and want to spread their ashes somewhere in private. Parks, gardens, churches, maybe even a valley. I would greatly appreciate some suggestions as to where I can do this, thank you

Stolen scooter in Fishtown

I’m hoping someone might be able to help my friend’s son out. He has MS and doesn’t walk so relies heavily on his scooter to get him around. He even uses it to get his daughter to and from school. Last Saturday his scooter was stolen right from his backyard on E Dauphin Street. It’s pretty disheartening to think someone could be this heartless!

Looking for a bass player!

hey! any philly area bass players looking for a new project?

i’ve got the rest of the band together, we’ve jammed some originals on and off for a while but never really got things moving. with some other projects pausing for a bit i’ve got time to commit to get this off the ground. i gig with other projects locally and tour a bit, can get shows booked.

very open to collaboration, sound experimentation, but i’d put the songs we’ve been playing as slightly country twinged indie rock. some influences are a lot of 90s drag city bands, wilco, pj harvey, radiohead, the weakerthans, land of talk.

feel free to comment or send a dm if you’d be interested or want some more info!

Nicole Fusaro — Missing From Philly Since 2018

Nicole Amanda “Nikki” Fusaro went missing in #Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in approximately July 2018.

I want to emphasize an important correction: the 2019 disappearance date listed in NamUs and repeated in other articles is incorrect. Nicole was already missing in 2018.

Nicole was approximately 26 years old when she disappeared. She was reportedly sighted in July 2018 in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Her last known legal paper trail ends in Philadelphia. She previously lived in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, and there are indications that she may also have had connections to Charlotte, North Carolina and Virginia.

Nicole is described as a Caucasian / white female who is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. Her identifying tattoos include:

●A Playboy bunny on her left shoulder

●A Chinese symbol on the inside of one wrist

●An infinity symbol on the back of her neck

●A rose on her inner right ankle or lower shin

●An additional tattoo on her lower back

She has several piercings, including her nose, belly button, and both ears. She may also have an eyebrow piercing.

Nicole’s mother searched diligently for her until she passed away in 2020, never learning what happened to her daughter. Nicole’s father is also deceased. Her cousins, extended family, friends, and community members have continued trying to keep her story alive. Her cousin has been a driving force in the search for her.

I have researched her timeline, spoke with people connected to her, and advocated for her case.

If you saw Nicole in or after 2018, please alert the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-3243.

Please read and share my complete Underground Mysteries article:

Philly developers are planning a $1.5M campaign to protect City Council from progressive challengers — Philly For Growth, a super PAC backed by the city's development interests, wants to keep progressives from growing their power on City Council.
