DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering provides several layers of artistic control:

  • Model Selection: Offers distinct model weights with different training parameters to guide the final output.  
  • Structure Intensity: Controls high frequency details added by the model, such as ambient occlusion, contact shadows, and subsurface scattering.  
  • Tone Intensity: Controls low-frequency details added by the model, including lighting and color response.  
  • Automatic Masking: Detects and isolates objects in the frame (like characters) to apply DLSS 5 dynamically, eliminating the need for manual object tagging.

Unofficial Mods DLSS Multi Frame Generation On 40 Series For Any Game!

I’ve released V1.2 of Universal RTX 40 MFG Unlock, which enables DLSS Multi Frame Generation in supported games on RTX 40 Series GPUs.

The mod loads before the Frame Generation pipeline is created and intercepts the active Streamline and NGX functions in memory. It exposes the supported frame multiplier and applies the temporal correction needed for Ada GPUs to position the generated frames at the correct intervals.

V1.2 is no longer limited to Cyberpunk 2077. The universal build supports any compatible DirectX 12 and Vulkan games that already include DLSS Frame Generation. It offers Follow Game, fixed multipliers up to the supported maximum, Dynamic mode where available through a ReShade menu.

  • High Bandwidth Monitors and GPU Scaling Behavior - Link Here
    • High bandwidth monitors are those that support display modes requiring high pixel clock rates, which in turn demand more GPU resources. The threshold for what qualifies as "high bandwidth" varies by product. On Blackwell GPUs, any mode operating above 1620 MHz is considered high bandwidth. For instance, the 7680x4320@60Hz mode defined in the CTA-861-H specification runs at 2376 MHz, making it a high bandwidth mode for Blackwell.
    • These monitors typically support display scaling natively. However, in some single-monitor setups, users may still prefer GPU scaling. When multiple monitors are connected to a GPU and at least one of them is high bandwidth, that monitor will default to display scaling only. GPU scaling is disabled in this case due to bandwidth limitations. Notably, display scaling can be more efficient than GPU scaling in such scenarios, as it reduces the bandwidth load on display cables—especially at higher refresh rates.
    • When GPU scaling is not enabled for a monitor, only the modes supported by the monitor itself will appear in both the Windows and NVIDIA control panels. Additionally, the "Display scaling" option will be pre-selected in the "Adjust desktop size and position" section of the NVIDIA Control Panel.

  • If your driver still crashes after DDU reinstall, try going to Go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Managed 3D Settings -> Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance

Common Questions

  • Is it safe to upgrade to <insert driver version here>? Fact of the matter is that the result will differ person by person due to different configurations. The only way to know is to try it yourself. My rule of thumb is to wait a few days. If there’s no confirmed widespread issue, I would try the new driver.
  • Bear in mind that people who have no issues tend to not post on Reddit or forums. Unless there is significant coverage about specific driver issue, chances are they are fine. Try it yourself and you can always DDU and reinstall old driver if needed.
  • My color is washed out after upgrading/installing driver. Help! Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel -> Change Resolution -> Scroll all the way down -> Output Dynamic Range = FULL.
  • My game is stuttering when processing physics calculation Try going to the Nvidia Control Panel and to the Surround and PhysX settings and ensure the PhysX processor is set to your GPU

Remember, driver codes are extremely complex and there are billions of different possible configurations between hardware and software. Driver will never be perfect and there will always be issues for some people. Two people with the same hardware configuration might not have the same experience with the same driver versions. Again, I encourage folks who installed the driver to post their experience here good or bad.

Discussion Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8G Rev. 2.0 Thermal Pad Sizes – Exact Measurements + Repaste Guide

I recently serviced my Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8G Rev. 2.0 and wanted to share the exact thermal pad sizes that worked perfectly for me, since finding reliable information for this specific revision was surprisingly difficult.

GPU model:
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8G
Model number: GV-N3070GAMING OC-8GD
Revision: Rev. 2.0

My card is from around the RTX 3070 launch period and had never been repasted or had the thermal pads replaced.

Before doing the maintenance, temperatures had become pretty bad under load:

  • GPU temperature: around 85–86°C
  • Hotspot: around 103–105°C
  • Fans: basically 100% / ~2950 RPM
  • GPU load: 100%
  • Board power: around 236W
  • The card was also hitting thermal limits

So I decided to fully clean the card, replace the thermal paste and replace all front-side thermal pads.

The photo attached shows the PCB and cooler after removing the original pads/paste. The GPU paste is not applied yet in this picture.

Thermal pad sizes that worked perfectly on my Rev. 2.0

Thickness Size
1.25 mm 60 × 5 mm
1.25 mm 60 × 9 mm
1.0 mm 27 × 8.1 mm
0.75 mm 27 × 14.2 mm
0.75 mm 40 × 14.2 mm — 2 pieces

I used Fehonda 12.8 W/mK thermal pads in:

  • 0.75 mm
  • 1.0 mm
  • 1.25 mm

The fit was excellent and the heatsink made proper contact with the GPU die after reassembly.

One important warning: do not just use 1.0 mm pads everywhere. On this card, the different thicknesses matter. If the pads are too thick or too hard, they can slightly lift the heatsink away from the GPU die and actually make core temperatures worse.

For the GPU itself I also replaced the old thermal paste and cleaned both the die and heatsink thoroughly before reassembly.

A few tips if you are doing this yourself:

  • Warm the GPU slightly before disassembly so the old paste releases more easily.
  • Take clear photos before removing the original pads.
  • Do not pull the cooler apart aggressively, because there are fan/RGB cables between the PCB and heatsink.
  • Clean the GPU die carefully with isopropyl alcohol or another suitable electronics-safe alcohol.
  • Make sure the entire GPU die gets an even layer of thermal paste.
  • Tighten the GPU mounting screws gradually and in a cross pattern.
  • Check pad contact before fully committing to reassembly if you are unsure.
  • Make sure you are working on Rev. 2.0, because other revisions may use different pad thicknesses.

The main reason I’m posting this is that there is a lot of conflicting information online about thermal pad thicknesses for Gigabyte RTX 3070 cards. These exact dimensions worked correctly on my GV-N3070GAMING OC-8GD Rev. 2.0, so hopefully this saves someone else some trial and error.

If you have the same card and are struggling with high GPU temperatures, high hotspot temperatures or fans constantly running near 100%, a repaste and pad replacement may be worth checking.

Discussion DLSS 5 will get much faster in the future - and the real reason it’s not supported on older cards

With the advent of DLSS 5, I see a lot of people complaining about the performance impact as well as the fact that it is not officially supported on the 4000 series and earlier.

However, DLSS 5 will become much faster when the model is optimized and quantized from FP8 to NVFP4.

In their blog introducing NVFP4, NVIDIA explains how quantizing from FP8 to NVFP4 will improve speed and efficiency: Introducing NVFP4 for Efficient and Accurate Low-Precision Inference

And in the article "NVIDIA DLSS 5 Technical Preview" by Techpowerup, they asked Nvidia:

Asked whether the model is NVFP4 quantized, given that it is Blackwell-exclusive anyway, the answer was "not yet," so improved performance seems on the horizon.

And this is the exact reason DLSS 5 is not officially supported by the 4000 series and earlier. They plan to shift to NVFP4, which older generations can't run natively because their older Tensor Cores simply don't support the format. NVFP4 also uses roughly half the memory footprint and bandwidth of FP8 as well as has two to three times the throughput of FP8. So, the FPS of DLSS 5 could practically double in the near future.

The only reason DLSS 5 even works on the 4000 and 3000 series right now via mods is because the current model is still using FP8.

So I saw this video on youtube like a year ago and thought "Pffff how hard could that be?". Anyway it's been 9 months, the project is finished and this is the result.

I built a physical double inverted pendulum and trained a reinforcement learning controller to balance it. For the simulation and training, I used NVIDIA Isaac Lab, running on my RTX 3060. If you are wondering: no, a 3060 is not enough to run Isaac Lab properly.

It's not as precise as the one in the video, and I haven't implemented the transition control, mostly because that wouldn't teach me anything new, but also because I've reached the limits of the hardware I bought, and I'm not spending any more money.

Anyhow, I'm working on a YouTube video explaining the whole process. I'll post it here (tho I don't know if that'd count as self-promo).

Discussion Small open-source fix for the NVIDIA overlay not working in games

I have had an issue several times where the NVIDIA overlay still worked on the desktop but would no longer open in games. It happened particularly after an in-place installation of the NVIDIA App or graphics driver, but sometimes the overlay simply stopped working after functioning normally for a while.

I have used an earlier version of this fix on my own system for some time and thought it might help others with the same issue.

The tool resets and re-registers the relevant overlay components. It automatically backs up the current overlay configuration before the repair and restores it afterward.

The tool is free, open source and released under the MIT License:
