That was 100% my jury experience.
Me: Look the instructions we got from the judge says that we assess damages based on how much unjust enrichment actually happen when this fucker stole the other guy's business.
Them: Yeah but the business wasn't actually worth that much, and he should have known not to trust a handshake deal.
Me: But we're here to assess damages. That they stole the business was decided already.
Them: I still don't think we should award that much.
And like, cool, I guess the jury does get to toss out the law if they think the law is dumb, but I never heard anyone taking that explicit stance. Just gut feeling, and a few "whatever it takes to get this done."
