I thought I would really like jury duty. Meet new people, get free lunches, sit in on juicy courtroom drama?

No, I wanted to hurl myself out of the window very shortly after starting. Like half of the other jurors were honest to God completely incapable of following directions and couldn't quite comprehend what their roles were as jurors, despite being told several times by the judge.

The pro tip is to volunteer to be foreman and you can guide the conversation and wrap things up in a reasonable amount of time. If you are in charge you can focus the conversation on the actual issues at hand and cut down on the wasted time. If you are just going to let the room run itself, you kind of deserve what you get.

they simply won't seat me. I've showed up about 5 times. but voir dire usually has one side throwing me out.

I've never been called for jury duty, but I'm guessing I'll get tossed when I respond to one of the questions with 'all cops are liars'.

Curious what your background and demographic profile is/what you are saying/what types of cases (criminal? civil?)

I always assumed I would never get seated before I ever got pulled into the room for an actual case, but I've found that to not be true.

upper middle class white collar professional. middle aged. both criminal and civil. it is only deep into the questioning I get pulled.
