Best pizza?

I know this is regularly asked but the start of the school year seems like a good time to revisit, especially since we’ve got some new pizza spots that have started up this summer (patsy’s, pizza guy @ the westy, who’s got the za out at danby, etc).

Excited to see what the good people pizza eaters of Ithaca say!

Hello! We are a band from SUNY Fredonia that's looking to do more shows out of town. We play a mix of heavy and progressive music, with influences ranging from King Crimson to black midi. If anyone knows of any venues, promoters, or bands that might be interested, please let me know! We can send music and our social media if needed.

Horror Circus

Lately I’ve been seeing ads for a horror circus taking place at hangar theatre but the event is not listed on their website and they haven’t been picking up the phone. Does anybody know of this event is legit or some sort of scam?

Does anyone know a place that has experience with either Locks for Love or something analogous? I know about the L4L 12" rule which by my measure I have covered, but want to make sure and get some help with the remaining bits.

Route 13

Theres a fallen tree southbound between the mall and Stewart park. It's partially in the right lane but easily avoidable. There's also a car crash after Purity that takes up the middle and right lane.

The freshly paved roads after Papa Johns are also very slippery so be careful driving on them. Hydroplaned for a full 5 seconds and saw a God.

Stay safe yall!

Empire Fiber Internet

Do people have experience with this internet provider, and are you satisfied with it? As with most people I am sick of spectrum and their prices so I was very intrigued at the prospect of empire fiber service coming to Ithaca, but wanted to hear people’s experience before I made a decision. Are they a trustworthy / good company and is their connection strong?

Is owning a home worth it for singles?

I gather many people feel that if you have a family, or plan to, it is worth it to have your own home, because you can put up structures like swingsets and customize your home for kids.

But a couple people who own homes recently told me it isn't worth it in Ithaca and the surrounding areas for single people who don't have immediate plans for a family - e.g., retired people - unless they can do most of their own repairs. They say it is too difficult to find trustworthy competent repair people in the Ithaca area. And that it is just easier and less time consuming, and maybe cheaper, to let a an experienced landlord handle repairs. Or to rent a coop condo.

(In my specific case, I am retired. I don't want to customize anything, don't have a lot of repair skills, nor do I garden. I want a place for my kayaks - but there are places to rent boat rack space.)

How many of you singles who own homes feel this way? And how many disagree? Is it unusually difficult to find trustworthy competent repair people in and around Ithaca in particular?

Event Band Started By Pioneering Electronic Musician Coming to Ithaca

Post image

Hi all, Carrier Band started by the late great Pauline Oliveros will be coming to Ithaca September 8th and performing two 45 minute sets at Room K in K-House. If you're not familiar with Pauline Oliveros she was one of the main innovators of post world war 2 electronic experimental music. Carrier Band was formed by Peer Bode, Andrew Deutsch and her in 1998 at Alfred University. I'll put some links in the comments. It's a pretty big deal that they are coming to Ithaca and performing.

Hairstylist for men

I'm looking for recommendations for a haircut. I have fine, short hair and an unruly colic. Before I moved here I had the same stylist for 15 years & I don't know how to explain what I want, I just need somebody who knows what they're doing.

I'm used to going to salons, I'd prefer that over a barber shop, I'd like some feathering etc. with what hair I have left, I'm not looking for a clippered "high and tight".

Lawn Mower servicing, tune-up?

Are there any repair shops around here I can take my lawn mower to? I have a gas-powered John Deere that's running a little rough. I saw in some other posts that Ithaca didn't have a small engine shop, but I'm posting anyhow in case people have found a solution since then.

Chicken pineapple pizza slices from pizzaroma

If you believe that pineapple on Pizza is an abomination this post is not for you.

For the rest of humanity, the chicken pineapple slice at Pizzaroma is amazing. It's almost like a chicken parm with pineapple on top. Delicious.

The water here is awful, what do people do?

the water here is so bad.. which is ironic because we are near these natural lakes. I’m from the south east and just visited my parents, took a shower and my hair was soft and shiny again it was then that I realized… no I’m not going into early menopause or turning into a weathered crone- the water here sucks. it’s drying my hair and my body out, and on top of that it doesn’t taste good. I digress- this is a shower water post. what are you all doing to bring shine and moisture to your hair and bodies with this whack water situation? I rent, so a showerhead or something that doesn’t require me losing my security deposit would be ideal

40th Annual Labor Day Picnic is next Monday!

Next Monday the 7th, from noon - 4pm at Stewart Park.

There will be classic cookout food and music by the 86er’s and Rich Sterns & Friends, as well as around 20 groups joining us to table on issues that are important to our community. So come out for the fun and leave with a way to join a group or union fighting for a better world for us all!

In addition to all the fun, we will be honoring some of the many working class wins with awards to celebrate the victories and uplift local struggles. In times when things seem so terrible, we have to remember to celebrate the good things that are happening so we can build hope for a future where workers have more power and dignity on and off the job.

FiberSpark at Collegetown Terrace has been awful, and CTT won’t let residents install an alternative ISP

I honestly don’t know what residents at Collegetown Terrace are supposed to do about the Internet situation anymore.

Since moving in, FiberSpark has been incredibly unreliable. I’ve experienced repeated complete outages, severe packet loss, and huge jitter, especially in the evenings. There have been times when the connection is technically “online” but is basically unusable for gaming, Zoom, or even normal Internet use.

I’ve done a ridiculous amount of troubleshooting at this point. I’m using wired Ethernet, not Wi-Fi. My connection to the local gateway can be completely stable while packet loss appears immediately upstream and continues to the final destination. During one outage, I was seeing around 87% packet loss to Google while the local gateway still had 0% loss.

What makes this even more frustrating is FiberSpark’s customer service. I’ve sent them multiple tests, screenshots, WinMTR results, and repeated follow-up emails. They’ve acknowledged that there are broader network problems, but I still haven’t gotten a meaningful explanation of the cause, what exactly they’re doing to fix it, or a realistic ETA. Lately they have barely responded to my follow-ups at all.

So I tried to solve the problem myself. I was willing to pay for Spectrum out of my own pocket and keep FiberSpark as-is. There is already a coax outlet in my apartment. Spectrum sent a technician, but the technician needed access to the building’s communications/mechanical areas to trace or activate the old coax connection.

CTT told me they would not allow the Spectrum technician access, so I ultimately had to cancel the Spectrum installation.

That’s the part that really gets me. If the Internet included with the apartment were reliable, fine. But when the provided ISP is having repeated outages and severe packet loss, residents apparently also can’t independently pay for another wired provider to get a reliable connection.

At this point I’ve literally had to use my phone hotspot because it is more usable than my apartment Internet.

For the amount of rent CTT charges, I really don’t think “use your cellular hotspot because the building Internet doesn’t work and you can’t install an alternative” is an acceptable situation.

Has anyone else at CTT been dealing with the same FiberSpark outages/packet loss? I’d especially be interested to know if people in other CTT buildings are seeing the same thing.

New Students! How to Ride the TCAT

Hello, this is a suggestive way to ride the TCAT so the bus driver and other passengers are not inconvenienced.

After scanning your card, walk all the way to the back of the bus. If there is an open seat. Please, sit. If there are no open seats on the back of the bus, stand in the back.

Do Not stand in front of the back door, that is for exiting the bus. If you are in the way, people will have to push passed you and it is rude to force people to have to graze your body to get out.

When people exit the bus and you are standing in the front of the bus, proceed to the back of the bus.

Only exit through the back door, unless the bus driver says otherwise.

Thanks!

I am from Canada and I somehow managed to lose my wallet in Ithaca, I was at the five below the last night the last time i remember having it as i paid for something. After We took a 10 min walk up the buttermilk Falls trail (the one farther from the falls itself), and then Walmart after. When I went to pay at Walmart I realized I didn’t have my wallet. I’ve called and been to all of the places I mentioned today, as well as going to the front desks. I also went to the police station to check the Wallet dropbox. I called the parks department and the sheriffs department also. Again like I said I know this is a big long shot but if anybody happens to have seen this wallet please contact me or give it to the police, it has all my Canadian IDs in it. its a ratatouille zip up coin purse, my name is kira and that will be on the ID’s. there was Canadian cash in it and five dollars American cash I don’t even care if I don’t get the cash back I really just need my IDs to drive back to Canada 😭

No passing on repaved 89

Was stuck behind a car doing 45 in the 55 zone and thought I'd have a chance to pass on the long straight downhill after Glenwood Pines but as I was about to make the move I noticed the new lines were all double yellow. It was like this all the way on the new pavement, no more passing zones from Cass park to T park. Slow sightseers are going to back up traffic worse than ever.
