The notion that you somehow need to "know the trick" in order to understand the mechanics of yelling inside a shower cabin makes me feel really old right now.

Most kids his age wouldn't have issues understanding that if you can hear what's going on outside, the outside can hear what's going on inside.

Kid's are (generally) much smarter than this thread gives them credit for.

Kids are smart, and at the same time, kids are stupid. The same kids.

Same goes for adults, we just usually have the experience to avoid the more obvious mistakes, and the ones we already know about.

Reddit does this all the time. They give 6 year olds the mental capacity of 2 year olds, 12 yos/6, and 18/12. It's impossible, especially given the age breakdown of the site, that so few would remember childhood at all.

This has also been a problem in developmental science in the past. Scientists would assume that when posed with a problem, kids would just try their best to complete it, but instead the kids were smarter than they gave them credit for and tried to read between the lines of the experimenters' odd behaviour, which affected the results of the experiments.

Yeah, it was the worst part about being a kid - older people who were idiots as kids or had forgotten what it's like to be a kid and think kids are unable to understand anything.
