SkyRC MC5000 -- new revision?

Upvotes

I have been quite frustrated with my MC5000 for 3 major reasons:

- USB-C PD but *output only*
- no actual battery rescue for Li* cells with tripped self-protection circuits
- lack of "just charge the thing" mode -- putting in AAA NiMH cells seems to autodetect the size but that's about it

I noticed that the hero image on their website now clearly states "AC/PD dual input": https://www.skyrc.com/image/catalog/product/charger/100214/mc5000-device.jpg?20260316vvvvvavv and the specs list 100W PD in

The feature list right below it (https://www.skyrc.com/mc5000) also now clearly shows "battery rescue", which makes it sound like two of my top complaints are solved. I immediately went to the firmware update menu, hoping that these are both shipped to existing users, but it's showing me on latest (v1.83)

Did they quietly ship a new hardware revision while leaving previous buyers holding the bag? It's very hard to tell from the site because some of the images still show the old front panel without PD input claim; the manual now has the new info. Anyone know what's going on?

Question Received my M21K LHP73B 3000K

Post image
Upvotes

I just received my M21K as mentioned in a previous post and it's insane. I want another one 🤣.

Never was crazy for flashlights but that could change 😅.

I liked my Wuben a lot and even my LedLenser Headlight although LedLenser is seen as way to overpriced, which it ofc is.

So now I would like something like my Wuben but something that blows my mind like my new M21K did.

But not 18650 formfactor, a 21700 that still is "pocketsized" with TIR and a lot of lumens maybe 4000K range but nothing that is getting to hot for a smaller case.

Can you assist/ help?

Cheers and tx for all info this sub gave me to lead me to the M21K. Love the 3000K btw.

[PSA] Acebeam H18 headlamp can only be mounted in one orientation

Post image
Upvotes

It might be important for the right-handed people.

H18 can only be installed with its head on the right-hand side.

Since the light source is on the right, my right-hand fingers and tools create a shadow over the point of interest.

I always mount my headlamps on the left-hand side but it’s impossible with H18.

Is there a way we can make this happen? Convoy M21K (SFT-25R): Estimated Specs & Performance.

Upvotes

The way I see it, If you pair the Convoy M21K host (55mm head diameter) with a small-die, high-luminance SFT-25R emitter, comparing a 50mm 1-degree ultra-narrow TIR optic against the standard 50mm 3-degree TIR creates two distinct long-range profiles.

Here is how the realistic performance numbers break down:

SPECIFICATION COMPARISON

Spot Angle

Standard 3° TIR: 3° Tight Spot + Soft Spill Ring

Custom 1° TIR: 1° Ultra-Narrow Beam

Max Lumens

Standard 3° TIR: ~1,400 – 1,600 lm

Custom 1° TIR: ~1,400 – 1,600 lm

Peak Beam Intensity

Standard 3° TIR: ~500,000 – 580,000 cd

Custom 1° TIR: ~750,000 – 900,000 cd

Max Throw Distance

Standard 3° TIR: ~1,410 – 1,520 m (~0.9 mi)

Custom 1° TIR: ~1,730 – 1,900 m (~1.1 mi)

Driver / Current

Standard 3° TIR: 3V 6A Buck Driver

Custom 1° TIR: 3V 6A Buck Driver

Spill Profile

Standard 3° TIR: Very Minimal

Custom 1° TIR: Virtually Non-Existent

Vibe Check

Standard 3° TIR: Long-Range Heavy Hit

Custom 1° TIR: Budget LEP Alternative

THE BREAKDOWN:

The 3° Setup: An efficient long-range thrower. Passing ~1,500 lumens through the 50mm 3-degree TIR lens hits ~1,500m of throw while keeping enough hotspot width for searching target areas.

The 1° Setup: Squeezing that same output down into a 1-degree cone pushes peak intensity toward 900,000 Candela, delivering a focused shaft of light with near-zero side spill.

2nd pic is the original Fresnel lens, and it has some horrible ring artifacts and tint shift going on.

3rd pic is the modded version (mule).

I much prefer the modded version for my use case. Two 18mm glass lenses + 18mm GITD O-rings from Convoy fit directly, so the mod is super easy to do.

I’m happy with it! 😄

Dangerous My wurkkos fc11c fried itself after not even 2 weeks😔

I bought a wurkkos fc11c about a week and a half ago. I've been using it occasionally for daily tasks and night walks. It was raining and I was using it to look around my yard for frogs. When I took it inside I dropped it from about waist height on to a soft carpet. When the light hit the ground it turned off instantly. I picked it up thinking absolutely nothing of it. Assumed the battery just got jostled and disconnected power for a second. I set it on my desk when I started to smell something funky. I looked over at the light to see smoke billowing from the charge port. Immediately scrambled to unscrew the bottom and pulled the battery out as quick as I could. What a shame. Hopefully I can get a refund. I really liked this light and I have no idea how a 4 foot drop onto a carpet would cause such a major failure. Anyway just thought I would share my experience. Luckily the thing didn't start a fire. I'm very concerned for what may have happened if I had just left the room or didn't notice the smoke. The smoke didn't stop until I removed the battery.

Low Effort Are there any redeeming qualities to a 4D maglite in 2026 besides *bonk*?

Like, d cells are expensive and not very energy dense, they leak, and even with krypton bulbs, not very bright. Its been near 20 years since I had one, but they were the light to have back then, it was like a proto-zoomie. Is there any reason to have one nowadays, even if there might be a LED replacement bulb?

Li Ion cell storage

Post image
1 Upvotes

Seeing the recent post, I noticed an eerie similarity to my setup...

Feedback is appreciated...how screwed am I and what will be a better solution? Should I get a foam insert for a storage box?

They are only stored stationary like this, I rarely take one out. I check the wrapping before placing one back on the piles. The plastic spacers are supposed to keep the batteries seperated from the walls, they are glued onto the bottom. Will this setup be fine for storage if I take out the piled up cells?

Please don't hold back...I think I need a wakeup call before a fire turns into my wakeup call, since this box is literally sitting around half a meter from the head side of my bed 💀

Can I use a more powerful cell in a lower amp driver

Hi guys. wanting to buy batteries but im worried that I will buy a cell that is too powerful and mess up the flashlight. The highest amp driver i have is 20 amps, the M21K still on its way.

I bought the M21K, i have the S7 and M21B right now.

Looking at cells that are like 60Amps max continuous discharge but worried they will damage the flashlight or something. Need some reasurrance.

Edit: ok guys I bought a Molicel/NPE INR-18650-P30B 30A 3000mAh 18650 and a Molicel/NPE INR-21700-P50B 60A 5000mAh 21700.

Review 27 minutes into a 60W run, the light is still drawing 61.95W

Post image
6 Upvotes

I ran the 60W mode for 27 minutes and 17 seconds to see if it would step down under sustained load.

The inline meter read 6.060V, 10.226A, and 61.95W at that point. This is battery-side input power, not optical output, but it was still pulling essentially the same power after 27 minutes.

Has anyone else measured sustained input on a high-power work light?

Anyone have a cool charging hub for your electronics?

Looking to make a not so jumbled wire mess charging hub that I can charge things like my flashlights, batteries, bt speakers etc..

Something I can have out in the open that is either decorative or hidden.

Also, I just realized my charger doesn’t charge 21700 cells so if anyone has a recommendation on a good battery charger for the various flashlight batteries It’d be appreciated (18650/21700/14500)!

Pics appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Question Wurkkos HD02 Pro price increase?

Did they just increased the price on the HD02 Pro? Yesterday it was CAD 125ish, today it is CAD175. Same launch series, but how is the almost 50% increase justified?

Recommendation Slim/10440 flashlight options?

Looking for a light with the following specs:

Non-negotiables: - Slim profile
- Takes 10440
- Forward clicky
- Higher candela (more focused beam, don't care about flood)

Nice to have, but don't need:
- Titanium
- Minimal design/aesthetics (don't need a bunch of ribs for my pleasure)
- Made in the US (or at least not China)

Do not care about: - 10+ programable modes (Pretty much only care for 100% and then some where dim like 5%-25%) - reverse pocket clip
- USB-C
- Wide Flood
- Temperature (although I do prefer more neutral 4000-5500Kish)

Thanks in advanced!

Edit: forgot to include budget... I'm looking for my grail soooo $500+

LED 18650 or 21700, zoomable, small-ish light recommendations

I've been using the cheap-o amazon $15 18650 zoom led lights for many years. They work fine, but recently the replacements don't maintain the light level when switched off and back on. They act like you've changed levels so we end up cycling through 3-4 modes to get back to 100%. We use these daily in an inspection business so they get hundreds of on/off cycles every day. I'd like to buy my people some newer, nice lights, with just a few requirements:

Zoomable lens

18650 or 21700 battery, we do not need them to have a USB port on the light for charging, but if they do it may get used

tube diameter should be around 1" so they'll fit in our tool belt pouch. A little larger would work, too

5-7 inch overall length should work fine

The choices are overwhelming. One I found that seem to fit is the Convoy Z1. Seems to get good reviews and the price is reasonable. We'll need 5-6 of these.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Most comfortable headlamp

I’d like to ask for advice for the most comfortable headlamp you know about.
I already have H25LR and NU20Classic but I don’t find either of them very comfortable to wear. Before I discovered this sub, I owned this cheap headlamp and it was more comfortable than the previous two combined.

I’d like it to have very low red light for reading in the tent. Her white light doesn’t have to be insanely powerful - for example I use my H25LR on 35lm setting when I do things around the camp. Occasionally switch to 230lm and never on the highest 500lm setting.

Extra thing that I would really like but understand if it’s not possible, would be having a dial where I could adjust brightness to my liking instead of having 4 different modes.

Thanks guys!

This is what they gave me instead of HS21

I do inspections in the roof cavity and need to wear a headlamp. The only one they had is the insanely heavy Milwaukee so I asked if I can get a different headlamp. They said no worries, send us a link which one you’d like and we’ll order it.
I picked Sofirn HS21 and Wurkkos H25LR and this is what they got instead.
Save to say I’m getting my own headlamp. Fuck it

Convoy S2+ glows green when off

I noticed this a couple of times now that my Convoy S2+ with a Nichia 519A 1800K glows slightly green when off in complete darkness. Why is that?
