realistically you would go into a ball but i think his instincts because it was so slow was to put his arms out.

That’s absolutely the ā€œI’m fallingā€ instinct. The top part of your brain doesn’t usually have time to interrupt the lizard/monkey level reflexes in this sort of situation.

An underappreciated mechanic is also that your head is remarkably heavy and tends to try to pull your upper body ahead during slow falls. He might have felt, physically, like he was about to go through the window and be way worse off. It does feel that way in the kind of slow rollover that happens while offroading. Not that I'm speaking from experience... 🤐
