This is how I drive in my dreams

I have dreams where I am trying to drive from the backseat and it is the most stressful dream ever (besides losing my teeth dreams).

I have these dreams, too. Inevitably, they end with me trying to reach the brake pedal and it being too far away and I jolt awake in a panic!

so nice to know it's not just me. I actually had these dreams before I even had a license. why would I be in the back seat?!

It means you're not in control of your life. Hindbrain vs. Forebrain.

I feel like it’s been awhile, but I definitely had that recurring dream as well.

Yes, reaching the brake pedal! Also sometimes I'm driving in reverse and that's even worse.

Its a dream, just command the car to slow down and come to a safe halt.

Same, Zombie. Same. I have to use the force of a thousand feet to stop the car right before it hits something.

OMG SAME!!! I hate those dreams. Or I try to park my car and it just starts rolling away 😭 I once had a dream that my car rolled back down the driveway and into a flooded, fast current creek. That was one where I thought it was real and I was like 🥲 my car! 💔

I only jolt awake after I've managed to go over an edge and am on the long fall off the side of the bridge.

Until then, it's the mounting panic as I turn a minor fender bender into a hit and run and a major accident.

Which is hilarious, because IRL, I'm a super careful driver (full stop every sign, proper signalling, spacing, check blind spots, never go above the speed limit, etc.), but in my dreams, I'm unable to keep control of my vehicle as I keep going too fast for conditions and can't seem to slow myself down.

Wtf... I thought this was just me. Nothing new under the sun.

Same here! I'm always driving a comfortable speed and then the car in front of me stops suddenly and I jam the brake, but nothing happens. Jolt awake as soon as the impacts happens. I hate it 😩

I wonder if people have been having these types of dreams forever, just with horses or sleds or boats, or are cars an especially terrifying invention to our unconscious? The brakes not working because they're far away is the weirdly universal bit that really gets me.

I have these dreams somewhat frequently, but not once have the brakes been too far from me. It's always that I'm slamming on the breaks but they're just not working

Mine end when I try to leap into the front seat

Omg I’m so glad I’m not the only one! It’s a recurring dream of mine where I’m driving from the backseat and can’t reach the pedals and I have no idea why

In mine I've got all of my weight on the brake but the car just sloooowly inches forward and won't stop. Or I will be barely moving and the car just flips over. I've had these dreams enough that my conscious brain has learned that I can fix it and flip the car back over. In one dream I just picked it up out of a pool haha. They're so stressful though
