General Question Looking for potential cat sitter!

Hi everyone, I (19F, junior) am looking for somebody to watch my boy Sir Percival II (Percy) in a couple of weeks! We would prefer someone with current or previous cat experience, but can be flexible.

I’m offering $50 for someone to come over
and take care of him on the weekend for a total of four visits (exact dates will be given privately). Everything that he needs will of course be provided!

Percy is a very sweet ~5 year old orange who was rescued from street life after being attacked by a dog. He is quite the mild-mannered and talkative gentleman who enjoys food, sleeping, and playing with his toys.

Please DM if interested, or even if you’re just a fellow cat person who wants to hang out. We’d love to meet new friends!

Rant Let’s start using the Transit app

We all know The BT transit app is terrible and glitches often . If we all use the regular transit app the tracking is way more reliable, it maps out when you have to leave to reach the bus and is a lot more reliable then any app

General Question Where to visitor park this weekend?

So I’m a student at VT and have my sister coming up to visit me this weekend starting Saturday morning and leaving Monday afternoon. She’s staying at my dorm, so she needs a place to park her car. I know I can buy a game day parking ticket for Saturday, but it says that it only lasts till 7 am on Sunday. I know normally parking is free during the weekend, but since she has to leave the lot at 7:00 where should she park instead? I’m just a little confused bc I can’t figure out if public parking is still generally available Sunday, since it’s a game day weekend. I know I would need to buy a parking pass for Monday. Should I just buy a multi day parking pass from a garage? Thank you!

Advice Parking for the game this weekend

Hey everyone,

I've got guests coming in this weekend and I'm trying to find some parking. My guests are older so I'm looking for a place that has access to a shuttle and it won't be difficult to get a couple vehicles there.

My wife said she's seen people mention the lot next to cookout. Is that crowded on game day?

Thanks very much!

Housing/Dining The pool at The Edge should NOT be open 24/7

Tonight, there is a significant problem. Several people are in the pool at 12AM (probably because the temp is 78f), and they are shouting and screaming, which prevents anyone nearby from sleeping.

First of all, this is a blatant violation of Blacksburg noise ordinance (10pm quiet hour), and second, anyone would good sense would not be screaming at 12am when there are people sleeping nearby. Even with 16dB earplugs and a fan running, i can still hear occasional screams from the pool, and I will be submitting a complaint to management tomorrow, and requesting that the pool be shut down at night, or at least regulated by personnel (that way, anyone being disruptive would be kicked out and potentially lose pool privileges)

If you are one of the people that were at that pool last night and you see this post, just know that you should be ashamed of yourself (and doubly ashamed if you were screaming) and that your behavior is a menace to society.

Thank you for reading this, and to everyone who believes in peace, have a wonderful night.

Housing/Dining Maple Ridge Townhomes Blacksburg at Virginia Tech

Parents of college students looking for off-campus housing: Please Read

As your students begin searching for off-campus housing, I want to share our experience and encourage you to document everything.

We recently moved out of Maple Ridge Townhomes https://www.facebook.com/mapleridgetownhomes and have spent over a month disputing charges that were assessed against us after move-out. What's frustrating is that many of the items we were charged for were issues we documented when we moved in, including wall marks, damage to flooring, broken countertops, damage to the front door frame, and other maintenance concerns.

When we arrived in August 2025, the unit was not in the condition we expected. We scrubbed walls, cleaned bathrooms, and spent significant time cleaning the apartment ourselves. We chose not to complain about every issue because we understood this was student housing and assumed some wear and tear came with the territory. However, we did document and report major damages and maintenance issues.

After move-out, we were surprised to receive charges for some of those same documented conditions. We have also been charged for things such as hard water stains in the tub, a small piece of lint left on the carpet, and even a mark behind a bed where the provided metal bed frame rubbed the wall. We also know the current tenants and they have confirmed these items were not fixed upon their arrival and remain. So I am sure they too will be charged.

What has been most disappointing is the difficulty in getting clear answers and timely responses while trying to resolve these concerns. Despite conversations where certain charges appeared to be acknowledged as questionable, we have not seen meaningful resolution.

At this point, it is not about the amount of money. It is about fairness, transparency, and making sure students and their families are not paying for damages that existed before move-in.

My advice to any parent considering student housing:

Take hundreds of photos and videos before your student moves in.

Move the furniture from the wall and crawl under the bed.

Submit maintenance requests immediately for every issue, no matter how small.

Keep copies of all emails and correspondence.

Save move-in inspection reports and documentation.

Expect that you will not get your security deposit no matter what you do.

Do your research, had I done google searching on Maple Ridge and read all the reviews I would have understood that this is their standard.

I hope our experience helps other families avoid the frustration we've been dealing with. If your student is considering Maple Ridge or any student housing community, make sure you thoroughly document the condition of the property from day one.

Please check out a few of the arrival photos below and compare against departure.

It’s not even about the money at this point it’s about what’s right and these students are getting taken advantage of!!

Housing/Dining Found Left AirPod near Owens Food Court (Dropped off at Squires Welcome Center)

Found a single left AirPod on the stone bench right outside the Owens Food Court entrance (East Eggleston side).

I turned it in to the Squires Student Center Welcome Center (1st Floor), so if it’s yours, you can claim it there!

News Petition to remove Flock cameras at Virginia Tech - DeflockVT

DeflockVT has started a petition to end the use of Flock Safety warrantless surveillance here at Virginia Tech.

Information is in the petition but I encourage you all to sign it and share it if you value your privacy and 4th amendment!

Make your voices heard! Surrounding counties and towns like Christiansburg are cancelling their flock contracts. VTPD should do the same.

Housing/Dining Were fruits on campus always this expensive?

I usually eat one banana as a pre-workout snack but when I went to buy them today for the first time this semester none of them were ripe so I took the whole batch. Guess I will be biking to Kroger to get bananas from now on because that price is just abysmal… (I’m on campus so xpress is the most convenient option)

Advice Anyone else feel like this?

Not sure how to explain this, but I'll try. Sometimes I wish I had someone next to me, a partner to be close to. But at the same time, I don't want that, because I don't want it to distract me from my GPA and the goals I'm working towards. I have mixed feelings about it. Having someone there would probably feel comforting and secure, but when I'm alone, I can push myself with no limits academically. Does anyone else feel this way, wanting a relationship, but also knowing it's a real commitment that could take away from other things you're trying to do?
