Self-Promotion Saturday: August 29, 2026

This is r/Seattle's weekly post for local businesses and makers (or users who discover them) to share their creations with our users.

This thread will be automatically posted every Saturday morning to help connect r/seattle users with cool local stuff. Types of content encouraged in this thread are:

  • Local businesses (new, running promotions or sales, or just really good ones!)
  • Upcoming events or activities (concerts, festivals, pop-ups, shows)
  • Local artists or creators sharing upcoming shows or releases

Content should be related to businesses or events in the greater Seattle area, and the typical reddit spam rules apply - please ensure you are contributing to the community more than just your own content.

Users who flood these posts with ads, links without context, referral codes, etc. - or who promote without contributing elsewhere will be actioned. Please continue to report actual spam.

We have our rules against spam and self-promotion for hopefully understandable reasons, but we've noticed users responding more positively to local businesses, artists, etc. sharing their content. This is an attempt to bridge the gap, helping users find cool stuff while containing the promotion to a single weekly thread. Please send us a modmail with any suggestions or input you have about the use or abuse of this thread.

Can we talk about Dicks?

1.4k Upvotes

I have never been to any location where an employee wasn’t happy and friendly. I understand people have their days and never complain when I get bottom of the barrel service because I don’t know what they’re going through. But if you work at Dicks I want to say thank you for our short exchanges because it always makes my day a little better

Love you guys

Get ready for a messy midterm election. TLDR don't mail your ballot, take it to an official ballot drop box.

Watching an interview with WA Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. He mentioned that our return envelopes won't have the recently required bar codes put in place by a Trump executive order. He warned that you should not trust using the US Postal Service to deliver your ballot. Instead Secretary Hobbs requested that voters take them to an official ballot drop box to ensure your vote is counted.

Additionally, there are reports that we had a record number of ballots not counted in this past primary election due to being "late" because of changes in US Postal Service postmarking protocols. Even if you drop your ballot in the mail or at the post office in time, it might not get postmarked until after the ballot close time. https://www.kuow.org/elections/2026-09-02/record-number-of-wa-mail-in-ballots-uncounted-after-primary-election-report-finds

When you get your ballot, fill it out and get it to an official ballot box asap. Don't wait until the last minute on voting day. Make sure your vote is counted so we don't get caught up in the numerous lawsuits and investigations to try and overturn the election results.

Labor Day Weekend calls for... a HANDSOME SQUIDWARD EDITION OF THE PAINT MAP! (Naturally.)

Labor Day weekend always marks our last Paint Map of the summer. And to say goodbye, our resident doodler decided to show you her real fine arts skills. Presenting a Handsome Squidward edition of the map.

Labor Day weekend also means the Summer Scaries have officially set in. Symptoms may include a sudden urge to squeeze three months of summer plans into one three-day weekend. If symptoms persist, consult your travel map. before making any weekend plans. Luckily, we have have one handy, so here’s what you need to know:

The handsome news: Most of our highway construction work will pause this weekend, which means all lanes of the I-90 Vantage Bridge are OPEN for the weekend. Lane reductions will go back into effect Tuesday morning.

The Squidward news: You should still expect delays on I-5, I-90, US 2, at the Canadian border and on Washington State Ferries as people chase the final days of summer. Between sports games, two state fairs, festivals, concerts and everyone trying to squeeze in one last summer adventure, the roads will be BUSY.

We can’t cure the Summer Scaries, but we can at least try to keep holiday traffic from aggravating this unfortunate illness. Our travel charts estimate the best times to travel on key highways throughout the weekend. Visit this link, consult the charts, and make a plan to avoid peak travel times: wsdot.wa.gov/travel/holiday-weekend-travel/labor-day-weekend-travel-times

As always, check real-time conditions before you head out, give yourself extra time and have a plan.

And with that, our Paint Map artist hangs up her paintbrush. For now. She’ll rest. She’ll wait. And when Washington’s roads inevitably descend into chaos once more, she’ll be ready.

Side note: Fine art is best viewed up close. Swipe through for a closer look at the details.

Last meal of a condemned man

Unfortunately, I have a diagnosis of celiac disease staring me in the face. It's not confirmed yet (my test results come back Monday or Tuesday), but lots of things about my relationship with toilets is making more sense to me.

For those who don't know, this means I need to live a gluten free life, if diagnosed. Forever.

So I'm planning a last meal, and I already know what I want:

Biscuits & sausage gravy

Chicken fried steak, also with sausage gravy

Eggs, over easy, with toast (preferably something artisinal)

Pancakes or waffles

Wit beer, if possible

But I'm not going out with the same old Denny's or IHOP or whoever is just reheating Sysco. I want the gourmet shit, if such a place exists.

If you know of such a place in or around Seattle, please let me know. Help me end life as I currently know it right.

EDIT: Thank you so much to everyone who responded. A lot of you misunderstood what I was asking, but I welcome the gluten free life advice and recommendations you've offered. I'm walking away from this thread with two lists of good eats to explore, so y'all really came through for me. I'm never leaving Seattle.

EDIT Again: You all have given me so many good suggestions, I'm going to make a weekend of it. I won't go overboard, but I'll have 3 specific meals:

1) I'm still picking the restaurant but I'm going to have the meal I describe above

2) A meal at Frugal's. Think of it as the Dick's Drive-in of Auburn. (A garden burger, a regular burger, and two large fry)

3) Northstar was recommended so many times, it seems I should drop in for a cinnamon roll

Found I LOST MY PHONE: FOUND Montlake Cut

I know chances are slim of them reading this, but: to the person who found my phone and set it off to the side on the montlake bridge today for me to eventually find after scrambling back and forth on my bike with all my rain gear on— THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I am a frequent biker through that area and when I realized my phone had fallen out of my pocket I was so stressed, even more so after a long shift at the hospital!

Thanks to you, I was able to retrace my route to find it just where you strategically placed it. May you have an incredible weekend, and all the well-deserved good karma!!!
