Louis Rossmann has put my case file in front of his audience. There are people describing the same thing happening to them, here and abroad.

Before Sony India lawyers got involved, this was a two month email thread that maybe a few hundred people had read. They then sent a six page notice telling me to delete the site, delete the video, delete the posts, apologise unconditionally within seven days, or face civil and criminal action and damages of ₹5 crore.

Here is what that letter actually achieved. News18, Times Now, Digit and LatestLY have all run the story in India. It is trending on X. Rossmann's audience has it. And the notice itself is now the single most read document on the website it demanded I take down.

Sony could have ended this in July with one attachment. A test report. Instead they spent seven weeks not answering, and then spent a law firm.

What still has not arrived

Not the report. Not the name of any test. Not one photograph of a dent, a crack or a mark. Sony's own notice says the external damage finding came from "inspection and subsequent deliberations". That is the entire technical basis, in their own words, written by their lawyers, 49 days after I first asked.

The question underneath all of this has not moved since 14 July. A photo of a dead screen proves the screen is dead. It does not prove what killed it.

Where it actually stands

My consumer complaint was filed in Mumbai, India and is pending. So the notice was not what started this fight. It was Sony's answer to a customer who had already gone to a consumer commission and published every email in both directions.

Nobody from Sony India has contacted me since an automated acknowledgement on 6 August. Everything since has come through lawyers.

Why this is not really about my TV

A warranty is a paid promise. If a manufacturer can void one from a WhatsApp photograph, with no test, no written finding and no appeal, then the promise is decoration. That is the part that applies to everyone reading this, whatever brand is on the box.

So, today, I (18F) write this to update about it and ask for a favour. We thankfully completed the chemo, and it worked really well. Both visible tumours shrunk down significantly. The scopy done after the last cycle of chemo showed excellent results. I'll add all the reports.

With that, I felt relieved. But cancer's journey doesn't end here. My father (62M) still needs to get his bladder removed with radical cystectomy. If you know anything about it, it is a major high-risk surgery. He is fighting with the courage to go undergo the surgery, but we have exhausted our every option. The surgery needs to happen between 8-12 weeks after the last chemo at most. We're running out of time. Please help me believe in humanity and help us with the best you can.

I teach Maths and Drawing at a Government ITI in Nagpur, so this sits close to my daily work.

Something struck me today. The Gita runs 18 chapters — a student in genuine collapse, asking a teacher who has every ability to just tell him what to do. And the final instruction is not an instruction at all:

vimṛśyaitad aśeṣeṇa, yathecchasi tathā kuru — "reflect on all of this fully, then do as you wish." (18.63)

Krishna restructures how Arjuna sees, then hands the decision straight back to him. The knowledge is given freely. The conclusion is not.

Put that against RAND's 2026 American Youth Panel data: 54% of teens now use AI for schoolwork, and 67% of students say it's harming their critical thinking — up from 54% earlier in the same year. Among students who don't use these tools, the figure is 78%. The kids are reporting the damage themselves.

What I notice in my own workshop: a student who copies a correct geometric construction has learned nothing about geometry. The answer was never the asset. The construction line was. AI is exceptionally good at delivering finished circles and exceptionally bad at making anyone able to draw one.

I don't think the fix is banning the tool. I think it's that we've never been clear about what teaching was actually for — and an old text was clearer about it than most modern pedagogy.

So: has any teacher here found an assessment design that survives contact with a model that answers everything? Something that measures the reasoning rather than the output?

New Delhi, 4 September 2026

The Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) is gravely concerned by The Indian Express's investigation, published today, into the Delhi Police's claim that its Facial Recognition System (FRS) identified 2,873 persons with "criminal antecedents" at the Jantar Mantar protests of 20 to 26 July 2026. Of the 205 persons accused of murder, rape and attempt to murder whom it checked, the Express found that at least 25 were lodged in Tihar, Mandoli or Rohini jails when the software placed them at the protest. Some had been in custody for years. This is not a marginal error as it displays a 12 per cent rate of demonstrable impossibility in the only sample independently verified, with no reason to believe the remaining 2,668 names are any better. Yet on 1 September 2026, at the Union's request, the Supreme Court, while quashing all FIRs against student protesters under Article 142, permitted the Delhi Police to register "fresh and specific" FIRs against these 2,873 persons. The Court was entitled to assume that the sworn affidavit of 17 August 2026 rested on verified facts, however these appear to be subject to further verification.

A system the police know to be unreliable

In a 2022 RTI reply to IFF, the Delhi Police disclosed that it treats a match as "positive" at a similarity score of just 80 per cent, and retains lower-scoring "false positives" for "empirical investigation". The system was procured in 2018 under the Delhi High Court's orders in Sadhan Haldar v. NCT of Delhi to trace missing children; the Court was later told its accuracy was around 2 per cent. A tool bought to find lost children is now building dossiers on protesters, which is a function creep.

In K.S. Puttaswamy v. Union of India (2017) 10 SCC 1, nine judges held that any intrusion into privacy must satisfy legality, necessity and proportionality. Legality requires a law, and there is none. The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Act, 2022 permits "measurements", including photographs, to be taken only from persons convicted, arrested or detained (Sections 3 to 5), not the scanning of every face at a lawful assembly against a police database. Neither the Delhi Police Act, 1978 nor the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 confers such a power. The "Crime Kundli" database against which 2,402 of these matches were run has no disclosed statutory basis or retention limit, and the affidavit does not say whether the 2,873 are convicts, accused, or merely named in a case.

A disproportionate assault on the right to protest

In Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan v. Union of India (2018) 17 SCC 324, the Supreme Court held that peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar is protected by Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(b), and Anuradha Bhasin v. Union of India (2020) 3 SCC 637 requires the State to choose the least restrictive measure. Sifting thousands of faces to single out people for their status rather than their conduct fails every limb of that test. It also inverts the presumption of innocence: "field verification" means police at the doors of 2,873 households whose only established act is, at most, attending a protest, or, as the Express shows, not even that. The Court of Appeal of England and Wales held live facial recognition unlawful in R (Bridges) v. Chief Constable of South Wales Police [2020] EWCA Civ 1058 for leaving "too much discretion" to individual officers. Further, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (A/HRC/48/31, 2021) has called for a moratorium on remote biometric identification in public spaces, and the EU's AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Article 5(1)(h)) prohibits it for law enforcement save in narrow, judicially authorised cases.

Our demands

In July 2026, IFF wrote to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, seeking an end to live facial recognition at protest sites, deletion of protesters' facial templates and match results, and publication of the governing SOPs. Those demands stand. Today we further call upon:

1. The Delhi Police to withdraw the list of 2,873 persons, place the Express's findings before the Supreme Court, and suspend all "field verification" pending an independent technical audit of the FRS;

2. The Union Government to impose a moratorium on facial recognition at public assemblies;

3. Parliament to enact a statutory framework for biometric surveillance with prior judicial authorisation, retention limits and independent oversight;

4. The Supreme Court to be informed that the affidavit it relied upon has been shown to be wrong and subject to further verification.

Ohk, so around 30 minutes ago, I met a guy here on reddit. He seemed pretty cool, and we started talking. It was going well, just casual, normal conversation.

And then, out of absolutely nowhere, came the most predictable question our society somehow still loves asking:

“What’s your caste?”

Like… seriously? 😭

I told him I belong to a Scheduled Caste, and his response was:

“Oh, I don’t believe in this shit.”

Arre bhai, if you don’t believe in it in the first place, why did you ask me?

And this isn’t even the first time. This happens to me way too frequently.

Once, I met an alumnus from my college. He told me he was working in China, and we started talking. Again, everything was completely normal. We were having a decent conversation, getting to know each other.

Then suddenly:

“What’s your full name?”

I told him.

And then, almost as if it was the most natural follow-up question in the world:

"what's your caste?"
