I was looking at the box score from yesterday (September 2, 2026; ugly) and saw that Cantillo was charged with five unearned runs on one error. I didn’t watch or listen to the game so I’m wondering if anyone can provide any insight on how all those runs were counted as unearned.

It makes sense to me that the first two runs of the three run home run are unearned but I think I would expect the run for Guerrero Jr. to count as an earned run. Is it a case where the error occurred and every run that scores after the error is unearned? If another run had scored with the bases clear, would that also be an unearned run? I don’t know anything about scoring, so I’m sure there’s something I’m not understanding.

Watson got a June call-up and held his own before Jose Ramirez came off the IL and squeezed him back out of a crowded outfield. He's been making that decision look worse since. 15 home runs, 14 steals, a 14.9 percent walk rate at Columbus, and he's already on the 40 man, so bringing him back is a roster call, not a procedural one. Cleveland spent its two September 1 expansion spots on Daniel Schneemann and a reliever instead. He thought about the specter of losing playing time.
