旅游 | Travel 6 months driving across China – from Shenzhen to Xinjiang and back. AMA.

I came to Shenzhen early Jan, and it took about a month of paperwork to get my driving license and a car in hand. Paid like 12k euros for a 06 DMi and started my trip. Went west to Yunnan, then Tibet, crossed into Sichuan, and all the way up to Urumqi in Xinjiang. Took about 6 months total with long breaks in between. Drove it back down to Shenzhen and sold the car last week.

Big learnings:

  1. Huge cultural differences between provinces. Sichuan people are kinda nomadic at heart, super chill. Yunnan is more hippie vibe. Each place feels different.
  2. Skip the big tourist towns. So commercial. If you've heard of it before, probably not worth it in my opinion. Most "old towns" are just commercial streets now.
  3. Smaller towns and villages though—people are absolutely amazing to hang with. Kids are curious, everyone's pretty welcoming.
  4. Urumqi / Xinjiang is overrated, honestly.
  5. Route 318 is overrated too. Mostly people in tour groups driving it. It's chaotic because tourist drivers do some stupid, reckless stuff.
  6. Police are trustable. Call them if you're in trouble, they show up.
  7. No one has any idea what right of way means. You just pray and drive.
  8. Skip highways, take national roads. Unlike the US, highways here aren't made for visitors—purely commercial and convenience, not sightseeing.
  9. You don't really need to drive to see China. Trains reach pretty much everywhere.
  10. Scams exist—from buying cars to parking to selling. Use your brain.

Anyone looking for a road trip—I'd recommend it. It's big, it's diverse, from the deserts in Xinjiang to the mountains in western Sichuan, totally worth it. Met a lot of interesting people along the way, including foreigners driving and hitchhiking. Absolutely loved the country.

Ask me anything.

经济 | Economy How Would You Feel If China Overtook the U.S. and Became the World’s Leading Superpower?

I’m Korean, and putting politic aside, I think China may eventualy surpass the U.S. because of its population and industrial base.

Many Koreans may disagree, but I wouldn’t necessarily see China becoming the dominant superpower as a bad thing—especially if it stoped backing North Korea. Since Asians are often lumped together in the West, China’s rise might increase Asia’s global influence.

What do Chinese people think? Would you want China to become the world’s leading superpower?

问题 | General Question (Serious) Are there no women with big feet in china?

I often order things from Pinduoduo, but I usually don't order shoes or anything bigger than a size 39. Sometimes I find something I like, but it's very rare to find something I really want.

Yes, I'm a girl with a 26 cm foot, which is a size 42 in China. It's probably considered a big women's shoe size everywhere, not just in China. But... yeah

观点文章 | Opinion Piece SISTER HONG (Ik it's late but still was curious)

Post image

Brief Description(to get an idea. Source:Google):The "Sister Hong" (红姐) scandal was a 2025 online hoax in Nanjing, China, where a 38-year-old man named Jiao cross-dressed and used digital filters to pose as a woman offering "free sex." He lured hundreds of men to his apartment, secretly filmed the encounters, and sold the explicit footage online. The leak of these videos sparked widespread public panic over HIV transmission and privacy violations, leading to Jiao's arrest on July 5, 2025.

The questions which arose in my mind:

1) According to google he DID NOT identify as a TRANS so the 1600 men who had intercourse with him did ANAL or what?(They knew he was a man?)

2)How come none of them suspected him of being a MAN from the body composition?

文化 | Culture What's the meaning and origin of dots tattooed on palms and wrists in China?

Post image

I saw it on 3 people already, two women and one man, women were 40-60 and the man was very elderly. Each had a different number of dots, from 3 to 5.

Is that a pattern, if so what does it mean and what's it origin? Or is it just a coincidence and those unrelated people share similar tattoos?
