How would you mesh this nozzle geometry to achieve yplus of 1 for k-omega sst

Which value is the best to prove convergence for propeller analysis, both mrf with simpleFoam and sliding mesh with pimpleFoam? (v2312) (repost)

ANSYS Discovery 2024 R1 – Rotating Fluid Zone overlap error with centrifugal fan

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to simulate a centrifugal fan with a real impeller and volute in ANSYS Discovery 2024 R1.

I created a rotating fluid region around the impeller and extracted the rest of the volute as a stationary fluid volume. The impeller speed is about 1450 rpm.

Discovery keeps reporting:

“Rotating Fluid Zone cannot be applied to overlapping bodies.”

I already subtracted the rotating region from the stationary fluid volume, so these two fluid regions should not overlap.

The impeller solid is still inside the rotating fluid region. This setup actually worked in an earlier test, but after I added the full volute fluid domain, the overlap error appeared.

I’m not sure about the correct workflow:

  • Should the impeller remain inside the rotating fluid region?
  • Does the impeller need to be a Cutter Body?
  • Do I need to subtract the impeller geometry from the rotating fluid region?
  • How should the rotating and stationary fluid regions be connected?

In one test, the air only rotated inside the rotating region and did not properly enter the volute.

Has anyone successfully used Rotating Fluid Zone in Discovery for a real centrifugal impeller?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cross-WLF implementation

Does anyone have experience with OpenFoam and non-isothermal, compressible Flow of shear thinning Fluids? I saw that it might be possible to make a combination of generalizedNewtonian Model using CrossPowerLaw and thermo physical properties like WLF. Do u think that could work or do I need to implement the Cross-WLF by myself to get an more accurate solution ?
