Country Based Post Flairs

Many questions can be country, or at least region specific. Regulations and experiences can vary widely.

Post Flairs have been available for a while now, but few members use them when submitting a post.

Let's try to work on that.

Advice Cybercriminals Claiming to Have Nearly Half of Americans' Drivers' Licenses in IDScan.net Breach

Article: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2026/09/fbi-probes-service-selling-153m-drivers-licenses/

TLDR: Identity verification service IDScan.net, which serves multiple Fortune 500 companies, the Coast Guard, car rental companies, lenders, and more, has been breached, resulting in the pictures Driver's Licenses of ~153M Americans' being for sale.

The article author verified the authenticity of the claims by searching for his own and friends' records, which he found. (He also found Secretary of Defense/War Pete Hegseth's, as well as that of the "assistant director of the FBI" [unclear if referring to one of the Deputy Directors of the FBI or the Assistant Director of the FBI's cybercrime division].)

If you have gotten a job at or taken out a loan from one of the affected institutions, rented a car, used a DL to board a plane, or legally bought weed, you may be at risk.

The site has since gone down, so you can't directly check whether you are affected, but considering how broad the breach is, better to assume the worst.

This, paired with the big SSN leaks over the past few years, such as the AT&T breach, mean identity theft and fraud are bound to spike.

If you haven't already, and aren't planning on opening new accounts, freeze your credit. You may also want to consider freezing your ChexSystems report if you don't want any bank accounts being opened in your name. If existing MFA options for account security aren't enough for your peace of mind, you may want to head to a bank branch and disable online banking entirely.

Thorough indictment of even in-person ID verification tools. Privacy and anonymity be damned.

US Seniors Safer Without Online Banking?

Given the rise of phishing and account-takeover scams, and the fact that banks often absolve themselves of responsibility in such circumstances by claiming the victim authorized it, would those most at risk (e.g., the elderly) be better off avoiding online banking and banking apps altogether, not only by reducing the phishing surface, but also so that it's harder for a bank to claim the victim authorized something?

Advice X Money stuck on “We’re reviewing your information” for several days — anyone else?

Upvotes

Got an X Money invite as a Premium+ user. I’m a US resident with an SSN and submitted everything they asked for (legal name, DOB, SSN, US address, phone, etc.).

After submitting, I got this screen:

It’s now been more than 2 business days with no email, no in-app update, and no request for extra docs (ID/selfie). Same screen every time I open Money.

A few details in case it matters:

  • X Premium+
  • US resident
  • Have SSN
  • Submitted the application after getting the invite
  • No follow-up prompt to upload ID or take a selfie so far
  • Checking back later does nothing — still just “reviewing”

Questions for anyone who’s already been through this:

  1. How long did your “reviewing” screen actually last? Did it clear in 1 business day, or did it drag?
  2. Did it eventually ask you for a government ID + selfie, or did it just flip to approved?
  3. Is there a support path that actually works for this? In-app Money support chat, the 888 number, or something else?
  4. Anything that unstuck it — different device, no VPN, restarting the app, rechecking that name/address matched public records exactly?

Not trying to rush a bank KYC, just trying to figure out if this is a normal backlog or if my application is sitting in a dead queue. Thanks.

India SBI YONO created my RD account but initial deposit failed, installment date changed to 31st and nominee missing

I tried opening an SBI Recurring Deposit through YONO today.

I selected:

Monthly installment: ₹1,000

Installment date: 15th of every month

I also added a nominee

At the final step, YONO showed “Something went wrong.”

However, when I checked my accounts afterward, a new RD account had actually been created. The strange part is:

RD balance is ₹0 (initial ₹1,000 was not deducted)

Installment date is showing as 31st, even though I selected the 15th

Nominee details are not showing

The RD account itself is visible and has an account number

I thought it might just be a YONO glitch, so I tried creating another RD, but the exact same thing happened again. Now I have two RD accounts showing ₹0.

My main concern is what happens if I manually deposit ₹1,000 into one of them now. Since the installment date is showing as 31st, will SBI try to auto-debit another ₹1,000 at the end of September even though I already paid the September installment manually?

Also, has anyone experienced the issue where YONO creates the RD account despite showing “Something went wrong,” with the wrong installment date and missing nominee?

Should I wait for the accounts to update, contact the branch, or close these ₹0 RDs and create a fresh one later?

Advice PNC managers shared my resume with other departments after I wasn’t selected — is this actually meaningful?

I recently went through two rounds of interviews for an associate-level position at PNC. The interviews seemed to go extremely well. During the process, the managers told me they really liked my background and indicated they didn’t want to lose me if this particular position didn’t work out. They also mentioned potentially sharing my resume with other areas of the company.

I followed up recently, and one of the managers who interviewed me told me that the position had been filled. However, he also said that he and the other manager were very impressed with my experience and interview performance and that they had “already shared my resume with several partners across PNC who are actively looking to fill higher-level positions they believe could be a strong fit for me.”

He also said they were excited to help connect me with other opportunities within PNC.
I’m obviously disappointed I didn’t get the original position, but I’m trying to figure out how much weight I should actually put into the second part.

For anyone who works/worked at PNC or has gone through their hiring process: Is this something PNC commonly tells candidates they don’t select, or does having managers actually share your resume with other teams mean something?

Has anyone had something similar happen where you didn’t get the original PNC position, but the managers passed your resume along to other departments and you were eventually contacted, interviewed, or hired for another role?

If so, how long did it take before another recruiter or manager reached out?

I’m continuing my job search either way. I’m mainly curious whether I should view this as standard polite rejection language or whether having managers actively share your resume with other teams at PNC tends to lead somewhere.

News “Switch Bank” ?

You might have too, because the one at Capalaba Central was closed today (Friday 4th) when I went there at 1:10pm
I was advised by an armoured guard who happened to be standing there that due to staff shortages they’ve closed “to give current working staff a lunch break”
… are they serious !!!!!
I watched as a multitude of customers (mainly elderly) dumbfounded and at a loss why they couldn’t do their face 2 face banking.

A goggle search;
‘The Commonwealth Bank of Australia reported a record full-year cash net profit after tax of A$10.98 billion for the 2026 financial year (FY26), representing a 7.1% increase from the previous year’

And I wasn’t even a customer. I had made a trip there to get advice on opening new accounts as I am unhappy with my current bank … guess what “Which Bank” …. Not the Commonwealth Bank.

US Should I start banking with Chime or keep my brick and mortar bank?

I currently have my checking and direct deposit in a local credit union, but I keep seeing ads and promotional products for chime and I'm wondering if having my checking in a fully online bank is a good idea? And if so should I fully close out my current bank or are there reasons I should keep it open, I'm not paying any annual fees or such to keep it open if that helps

US Depositing checks in the name of a deceased person

Question regarding banking procedures upon the death of a depositor. Is this institution specific?

For estate planning purposes if I die and have undeposited checks in my name can they be deposited into my account even though I am deceased? Examples would include tax refund checks as well as refunds in general. I have bank accounts in my name as well as a Revocable Living Trust account.

Could the checks in my name be deposited into my trust account (converted from a Revocable Trust to an Irrevocable Trust upon my death)?

Probate would not be opened as there are no assets subject to probate, so while a will exists there would be no Letters Testamentary and thus an Estate account would not be opened. The bank accounts in my name would have Beneficiary Designations and the Revocable Living Trust upon my death would become an Irrevocable Trust.

Advice Need help setting up direct deposit

It sounds a little silly, but for direct deposit I need an account number but on my banking account the only information I have is a six digit member number, 14 digit MICR number, and then the routing number. Are any of these the same or interchangeable or do I need to go into a branch to get my account number?

Advice Credit union telling me they don’t offer overdraft fee reversals under any circumstances- tells me it’s now the company that charged me by mistake’s responsibility to pay?? What??

I have frankly never heard of this. First of all my credit union used to reverse overdraft fees in the past (They usually give me one per year) and secondly my account was supposed to reject all charges that would put me under! But when I called she told me that I would need to set up an entirely new account to have that (or as she said it “that’s an entirely different product”), which does not align with what I was told last time I called about overdraft fees sometime last year (which conveniently she couldn’t retrieve the logs because they were too old). The person I talked to last year asked if I wanted my account set so that I wouldn’t get charged for overdraft fees and it would reject my card, I said yes and she said it’s all set and I won’t get dinged anymore. So that was a lie. The first automatic payment that came out was an old soap subscription that rolled over (that I am 99% sure I cancelled) for $25, which put my **87¢** in the red. And they charged me $10 for it. For 87¢. So I disputed that with the soap company, they didn’t take responsibility, but they refunded it “as a one time courtesy” (gee thanks…). But then a spotify payment went through before the refund came in for $11.76 (even after I switched card payments because it kept trying on this one prior to that), which put me in the red by $22.63 now which triggered *another* $10 overdraft fee. This just feels like theft!! So I called and complained and she said under no circumstances do they reverse fees. She then told me that it’s the soap company’s responsibility because it’s their fault I got the overdraft fees, but since they didn’t accept responsibility for the first mistake charge I doubt they’ll cough up $20 to make up for the fees. I mean I’ve never even heard of that! What company is going to say “oh yeah you’re right this is our fault, have some free money” when I already cost them $25 and can’t return their product to resell? (I donated them to a hygiene bank at least). No company is going to fork over money for no exchange without an arbitration agreement or legal papers. Weirdest suggestion I’ve heard from a customer service rep. Sure it makes sense, they charged it and the credit union took the fees because of that charge and the charge after BUT IT WAS THE CREDIT UNION THAT ACTUALLY TOOK THE FEES IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! It has been beyond frustrating because I went into the negative because of spotify last month after a surprise charge; I put $40 in my account for a total of $46 with the intention of spending $40 online, but of course right before I did the same day (it didn’t even show up when I checked to make sure I had it, even though the charge is listed as happening before the $40 one) the $11.76 charge went through and put me at -$6 which turned into -$16 because of the overdraft fee it triggered. I don’t know why all these automatic charges are lining up so perfectly to fuck me over specifically but I’m tired of it and have no respite. I don’t have a job (can’t work) and the little cash I get is from my parents who are drowning right now even though they act fine (I became disabled 3 years ago at 20 and live at home still, and things might be fine now idk my dad’s income is extremely unreliable and unstable but last I heard bills weren’t being paid and money was being heavily borrowed). Shit just sucks. I was polite over the phone but maybe my frustration was showing. I mean how am I supposed to feel when I’m dinged for money I can’t pay back?? She framed it as “we reduced the fee from $35 to just $10 so it’s more affordable” NOT WHEN THEY ADD UP!!!! Ugh. I was refunded the $25 but I’m still $6 in the negative because of this bullshit. Too little too late. Damage is done. I hate it here.

Advice Money order

So I did something really silly and I had 4 money orders paid out to a federal agency. I did this a year ago no problem, but recently found out they no longer take money orders anymore and only noticed prior to sending it out. I had already written the “to” and “from” and wondering if I could somehow re deposit it?

I got a USPS money order and they said I could just go to the bank to deposit it but I feel a little unclear since the agency is written in the “to” section of it with their address. Is this correct?

EU Cashing a US check in France

Hello, a family friend (French) recently returned to France after living in the US for a few years, and has a check from the US that she needs to either cash or deposit. Is there a way to do this so that she can avoid any large fees? Could she sign the check to someone in the US and have them send her the amount via Venmo or Zelle?

Advice Savings account advice

Hello I'm an 18yr old who's about to go off to college and I want to start looking into saving. I currently bank with Cal Coast Credit Union and Chase bank. I have a thousand dollars saved and was looking into a savings account that will let my money earn money. Everyone online says to open a HYSA right away so you can earn money but I'm confused on which bank to use for that or if that's a good idea for me right now. With Chase and CCCU they don't really have a savings account that explicitly says 'High Yield' on it so I'm confused on what would be good. I have a part time job but I barely earn 200 each week. I'm planning to work in college but I don't have a job yet so I'll be running on no income for who knows how long. with a HYSA I know you have to make big deposits so you can start earning good money but since I'm no where near that type of income what savings account is good to start with and what apy should I be looking for?

I'm just learning everything that has to do with money so I apologize if in my explanation something doesn't make sense or if any terminology is wrong. thx for your help.

Advice Breaking into Wealth Management or Corporate banking

Currently 23 graduated a year ago now with a degree in enviro/earth science and wanted to go into risk assessment work. Unfortunately, the government cut almost 40% of jobs in that sector so I couldn’t find anything. Have started working in sales and operations now and don’t mind it but have been interested in exploring finance. I have a buddy who works in retail banking who told me he could get me in but my issue is I don’t really know if that’s the best path to get into the sectors mentioned in the title or if going back to school for something related to Econ/finance would be better.

Advice Cashing a check with multiple names on it

I am trying to cash a security deposit check from my previous landlord but have hit an issue. I've seen lots of similar posts through searching but I have a few parts that were unique from other posts I've seen. To start, the check has 3 names on it, mine and my prior 2 roommates. It is written with my name on top and then the other two names with an "&". I originally paid the security deposit and they reimbursed me for their portions.

One of my roommates was on a work visa from India and had to leave the country when her job laid her off and she couldn't find another job. This was February 2025. We tried to get her name off the lease but the landlord wouldn't do that unless we could replace her as it was a 3 bedroom apartment and they wouldn't accept the documentation change to the remaining 2. We were never able to fill her room so she was on the lease until we ended it this July.

I have seen that for cashing a check with multiple names you need people either in person or signed/notarized documents stating all other parties waive the money. She is in India so this is an impossibility. Our landlord said they could send out a payee adjustment form to everyone to have people agree to waive money so they could reissue the check to just me. The roommate in India no longer has access to her US email that the landlord has, as far as I am aware. I don't know if she even has another email and I haven't spoken to her in over a year. Even if I could give them another email, how do they know it's legitimate? From there, the best solution I have is send the document to her on instagram and have her sign it but, again, the same problem of how would they even know she really signed the document? Presuming she ever sees that I sent it to her.

My credit union already sent the check back saying they wouldn't cash it, I had to mail it to them because I live in a different state after moving for a job. Mobile deposit maxes out at $2500 per day for my credit union and the check is larger than that. Venmo and paypal rejected the check, I am assuming because of the 3 names. My next step I saw from other posts, and that I got as a suggestion from the landlord directly, was ATM cashing. An extra suggestion I saw once was a currency exchange because they would cash anything.

Does anybody have any thoughts for cashing a check with multiple names on it in which one of the parties lives on the other side of the planet?

Advice Alternative to CapitalOne

First, I know these questions come up all the time. I looked in the history and saw a bunch. But the specifics of the situation vary, so I'm going to put this out there with our needs and you're welcome to ignore. :)

I've used CapitalOne from the time they were originally ING. My needs have evolved, and so has CapitalOne.

  • We do some unusual money moves and NEED BRANCHES. When we've bought and sold houses or done international contract work we sometimes need a same-day cashier's check, receive international wires, deposit very large checks, or even just use notary services. The bullshit cafes are a waste of time.
  • We have a joint account. But any payee I've set with my login is only available to me; I can't access any payee my partner has created. This makes paying bills, checking status, etc very challenging. We need an account that we can BOTH FULLY control.
  • We carry high balances so we're not worried about minimum fees; we do need good rates on large balances (savings, mm, or cd doesn't matter).

I've tried to resolve some issues with CapitalOne customer service but they've turned to shit and know nothing anymore - they read from a script or just hang up. I'm pretty done.

I opened a Chase account for my business because CapitalOne couldn't handle the international aspect, and I've been pretty happy with it but I don't have good insight into the joint account thing and I don't know what I don't know. I'm inclined to maybe just move our personal accounts there but figured I'd better check in with the wisdom of the crowd first.

What bank has branches, manages joint accounts well, has good yields, and also generally is easy to deal with digitally and on the phone?

Advice NCUA worthless, need guidance

I have been attempting to close a non-beneficiary checking account at a federal employee credit union for my deceased father’s estate. I am the appointed executor and we are going through probate. Per the credit union’s phone instructions, I mailed them a letter with the certified death certificate and executor letter attached. The branch manager signed for this on 07/02/26.

I have received no response. I have called several times and was told the manager would return my call but she never does. I filed an online complaint with NCUA who then closed the complaint due to no response from the credit union.

Does anyone know what my next step should be? The credit union is in the process of merging with another one, but per the new one the accounts have not transferred over yet. I have a probate attorney retained but I am not sure if there is anything else I should be doing first. The account is not huge but it is not small enough to walk away from (~$50,000).

I am frustrated and exhausted and could use some advice here. This is the last account to close and the delay is holding up probate. Also I will NEVER put my money in a credit union after this experience.

Advice Locked bank account - will this impact auto payments?

Title says it all, but heres the full story: travelling and can’t get into my online bank. For reference, it’s a US account.

Called to check and they can’t send the code for me to recover my account because the network isn’t recognized. Asked them to lock my debit card because I can’t monitor transactions without the app.

I can’t resolve this til I’m back on my network and can receive the code from the bank.

will this lock out auto payments I have set up? I’m worried now about being hit with late fees since I can’t resolve it until I’m back on a recognized network :/

Advice Advice on wire transfer from Chase to Axis Bank

One of our US clients had initiated a wire transfer to our axis account in India for the first time . Axis says they have received the fund to the nostro account but did not receive MT103 so they don't have disposing instructions. When the client contacted Chase customer support for MT103 for the wire transfer.. they say they have already sent the fund and cannot provide MT103. Is there any mistake in the way wire transfer was initiated? The client says he has initiated the transaction from the Chase web application. Is there any way to get MT103 in such cases ?
