Physician Responded Is this concerning?

Hello, I am 20, male, 5 foot 6, 140lbs. I am on doxycycline for Lyme disease (got tested) but recently just got a case of tonsillitis. It is not strep as I got tested, or EBV, the flu, or COVID (all tested negative). I went to the doctor and he said it wasn’t too bad, most likely viral, but I’m not positive given the state of my tonsils. I am taking ibuprofen and doing saltwater gargles. Currently on day 3.

some discomfort. It is scratchy feeling. Mild discomfort may be a three or a four on the scale from one to 10. Mildly sensitive to touch.

Feeling like a sore throat, but on the roof of mouth, I don’t even know what the word for the roof of the mouth is so any language also would be helpful.

Discomfort started today. Discomfort has happened before. Never looked before now though. I hope it’s not cancer. I don’t know what it is. Thank you so much for any help.

Physician Responded Should I bring my friend to the hospital?

She’s 20f, 5’2, and 68kg

So basically she promises she wasn’t trying to hurt herself, but she had about 12,800 Advil (3200mg Friday, 3200mg Sunday, and 6400mg Monday), 8500mg naproxen (2000mg Sunday and 6500mg Monday), and 11000mg Tylenol (5500mg Tuesday and 5500mg Wednesday). She said it was for her kidney stone and migraine, but I’m not sure. She started to vomit repeatedly Wednesday night, including water. I took her to the er because she started to vomit bile and couldn’t keep gravol down. She asked to speak to the doctor privately so I don’t know if she told them the truth or not because she was discharged after a blood test and no iv. I guess it’s possible she told them food poisoning. I made sure she ate soup all day Thursday, but considering the high doses of Advil, naproxen, and Tylenol, should I convince her to go back? I don’t want her to hurt her to experience organ damage. Since coming back from the hospital she hasn’t vomited.

Physician Responded Swollen Face

Post image

Me: 26 years old, 5 feet, 109 pounds, non smoker and no other conditions

July-August 2026: I would get fevers, chills and profuse sweats every evening and night. In the mornings I would be fine so I didn’t think too much into it.

Mid August 2026: still had the nightly fevers. Noticed snotty (almost like phlegm from bronchitis), yellow-greenish vaginal discharge in my underwear and every time I wiped.

August 17, 2026: went to the hospital regarding my symptoms. They were sure it was chlamydia, even though the test results didn’t come in yet and prescribed me antibiotics for a week. Took antibiotics for3 days. When the test results came back with no STDs, yeast infection, or bacterial vaginosis detected. I stopped taking the antibiotics.

August 31, 2026: felt a hard, golf sized lump under my chin. Had a red blotch on my right side cheek that was very slowly getting darker. Went to urgent care who referred me to internal med. Appointment was scheduled for late September

September 2, 2026: lump under chin is gone but now there is a hard mass behind my ear. The entire right side of my face is red and swollen. Went to the hospital, was told it was cellulitis, and given 1g by IV of cefazolin. And given prescription for amoxicillin-clavlanate 875mg-125mg oral tablets (twice every 12 hours for 14 days)

My face continues to swell and now I feeling pressure on my head. I’m scared the antibiotics aren’t enough but the doctors are so quick to diagnose and dismiss me.
Help.

Physician Responded Burn after bonking head on stove

Hello! I’m a 26F, 5’2”, 130lbs. This morning I was trying to help a coworker locate a pilot light shut off on our community stove when I lost my balance and bonked my forehead on a hot area of the stove. I immediately cooled with water and kept the area cleaned and moistened with aquaphor. Is this a 1st or 2nd degree? I have had no blistering at all.

Can bee sting reactions become this large and red?

Post image
37 Upvotes

25 y/o male. 6’2” 180 pounds. No PMH. Meds: SSRI + epipen. Allergies to peanuts.

Sought care at a ‘minute clinic’ and they prescribed me prednisone but call me a couple hours for me to come back in.

The swelling started yesterday after a bee sting and keeps getting larger. Cap refill looks preserved but it’s getting progressively more painful on (limited) AROM.

Weight bearing causes immense pain on distal belly of calf muscle, but after a couple steps the pain becomes tolerable to walk on and eventually subsides.

I also woke up today with a bad sore throat and there was some uvula irritation noticed by the NP. Not feeling great, but I think the antihistamines I have been taking have had a pretty significant anticholinergic effect.

Best course of action to continue to rest and follow up tomorrow or re seek care now?

Thank you

running out of ideas of possible root causes

I'm posting this on behalf of my mom (53F, 5'3", 175 lbs). She has had hypothyroidism (well managed) for ~20 years and is on daily Synthroid. PMH includes sleep apnea, asthma, and chronic migraines (sinus). Migraines are treated w/ 200u of Botox every 3 months + Qulipta. Allergies include penicillin, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, guaifenesin, and dextromethorphan. No alcohol or drug use.

Over the last ~6 months, she has been getting progressively more severe rashes on her face and neck, with today being the worst due to new blistering around the nose and mouth. The rashes severely burn and itch 24/7. She's on a daily anti-histamine, however that has not seemed to help. She went to urgent care today as she's out of town, and they gave her a benadryl injection + prednisone (this photo is from AFTER that).

We've spent hours online researching for possible sources and/or others with a similar experience but haven't found anything that matches her history that well. She's under the care of an allergist, but I'm wondering if she should seek care with another specialist (e.g. rheumatologist).

Thank you in advance for amy suggestions/next steps.

Physician Responded Brain eating amoeba

Post image

Hello I’m 5’7 24 years old and I’m posting an update to a post I made 2 days ago.
I had water forcefully up my nose from an above ground pool filled with tap water here in south central Los Angeles
My symptoms are getting much much worse . Burning sensation in the back of my head with neck burning & eyes feeling swollen and drained
Full body burning sensation and feeling of vertigo and nausea . Waking up every 2-3 hours .
Went to Cedar Sinai & Ronald Reigan emergency room and got discharged 3 times back to back . Feeling much more burning shock right now woke up from my sleep in so much pain.. I’m so scared what can I do and where can I go? What other infection can be causing this so afraid it’s brain eating amoeba and don’t have much time . The pain is very intense and my nerves in my neck & back are super hot like a knife cutting through my body

questions about alcohol withdrawal

26ftm, smoker, 5’4” 106 pounds. i take testosterone once weekly. i occasionally take adderall or gabapentin recreationally, and use marijuana a few times a week.

i have been a pretty heavy drinker for a long time. i drank about a fifth a day for several years. i quit cold turkey summer of 2025. i relapsed about 6 months ago, and pretty quickly got up to slightly more than fifth a day. i’ve done that for about 5 months.

when i quit the first time, it was pretty uncomfortable. i experienced mild withdrawal symptoms. some shaking, nausea, irritation. it went away in about a week.

i was not aware of the kindling effect. even just 6 hours without alcohol now causes me to tremble from my head to my hands, i sweat profusely and begin to feel sort of confused and agitated. my legs stiffen up and my heart rate goes up. earlier this happened and it was 113bpm, which isn’t terribly high. it is unusual for me, and i had been lying down for about 45 minutes when my heart rate was checked. i feel like it just gets worse and worse each day.

my job is talking about sending me to rehab, which is so kind of them. it’s going to take some weeks. i don’t know if i can live like this for that long. i’m trying to gauge how serious this is and if it is an emergency. is there anything i can do at home? i would really like to try to start tapering off on my own, but don’t know the safest way to do that, or if it is safe at all.

sorry for the rambling, i am just an idiot drunk and scared. i have been dealing with this for a long time, and never felt like this before.

Physician Responded Does this xray show constipation?

Post image
5 Upvotes

4M, diagnosed with constipation by an NP, but gp disagrees that the xray given shows constipation but shows artefacts instead. The radiologist report did NOT state constipation or any other faecal impacting / issue.

I really need to get another opinion, because this nurse practitioner tried to perform an ENEMA on my son based on his finding. Son is going through huge amounts of medical issues and I’m being told it’s constipation yet no actual evidence of such.

NZ based, hospital the xray and report is from is the top children’s hospital in country

Physician Responded Accidental finding on MRI

26 yr old female (5ft 7in, 210lb) non-smoker. Only diagnosed with anxiety. Only medication use is Nuvaring Birth Control. No female or urinary symptoms.
I volunteered to be a tester patient for a new protocol for an MRI department and I was told that my uterus needs follow up imaging due to some concerns. They were unable to further elaborate with these concerns but said it was non-emergent.
Just trying to see what could possibly be wrong

White spot on my tongue, feeling like i bite it

Post image
Upvotes

21M, Smoker(mostly a vape, sometimes cigarettes), Diagnosed with Granulematosis with Polyangiitis, recently went through a cycle of Rituximab infusions due to relapse of the disease. For two months already i have this white spot on my tongue which looks like i'm biting on it. It is not too uncomfortable, but still does feel like it. The surface of my tongue in that spot feels numb. Around a month ago i went to a dentist to get my tooth stones removed, forgot to mention about this weird spot and he didn't mention it either, so maybe it is not as bad as i think. But still, what could it be and how could it be fixed? I brush my teeth every day twice a day, with an electric toothbrush, then i floss and use a mouthwash

Physician Responded Could this be an infection?

Post image

I’m 33 5’ 6” 280lb Male. I had surgery done about 7 months ago for a tibia fracture and I got a plate placed. 2 months after the staples were removed that area got infected. I got a culture done and took antibiotics after I finished the dose it wasn’t healed so I got another culture done it came out positive with different bacteria and I took another antibiotic. After I was done with that dose that the Dr prescribed it didn’t heal again so I got another culture done it came out negative. I was hoping it would heal but 3 months have gone by I don’t take anything anymore but I still have this constant drainage and I have no idea what to do. I live in a third world country so I highly doubt my Dr has any clue. What do you guys think it may be. It’s not swollen, it doesn’t hurt and it not warm.

What a good advice would be for stress-induced heavy periods in female thirties?

Upvotes

A clinical pharmacist here but still would appreciate to know more opinions from skilled and experienced medical colleagues, so 11 months were extremely stressful to me, and it seems that period responds by becoming very heavy, external ultrasound imaging was normal, prolactin and TSH were normal too, Ferritin was low of only 12. I lift weights like about 7 times a months little more maybe depending on how much time I have, I also have some runnings so maybe I'm contributing to my own exhaustion and condition idk.

I wouldn't prefer the suggestion of oral progesterones because I already have some depressive traits I don't want to exaggerate them lol.. plus there's no way I accept the possibility of hirsutism.

My life is crazy stressful and this seems to only continue, I can't see a way out or a relief..

So I would appreciate any helpful thoughts and tips.

mistero

Esperienze simili?

Terminated pregnancy for medical reasons at 24w with retained placenta/PPH. Low iron storage. Is it safe to try and conceive?

My husband and I (31F) sadly terminated our very wanted pregnancy at 23w6d via labor & delivery on July 31 due to a severe congenital heart defect (amnio was normal but waiting for heart gene panel). During delivery, I had a retained placenta, required an emergency D&C, and suffered a postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) losing 1.2L of blood.

I just got my first period and am tracking my LH levels to see if I’ll ovulate in the next week or two (around Sep 10–12). My husband and I want to try to conceive (TTC) again as soon as possible, but I am concerned about my recent iron bloodwork.

Current Medications:

• Ferrous fumarate 300mg daily (100mg elemental iron) since 1 week postpartum

• Sertraline 50mg (currently cross-tapering over from Escitalopram 5mg)

Lab Work:

• July 31 (Birth/PPH): Hemoglobin 110 g/L | Hematocrit 0.332 L/L

August 29 (1 Month Postpartum):

• Hemoglobin: 133 g/L (Normal)

• Hematocrit: 0.419 L/L (Normal)

• Serum Iron: 6.4 µmol/L (Low)

• Ferritin: 26 µg/L (Low)

• Transferrin Saturation: 0.09 / 9% (Low)

• TIBC: 70 µmol/L

• Transferrin: 2.77 g/L

I have a follow-up appointment with my OB/GYN on September 11, but I am worried I might ovulate before or right around that date.

1. Is it safe to try to conceive with low ferritin and iron, or do I need to skip this TTC cycle?

  1. Should I have an IV iron infusion while actively trying to conceive or right around ovulation?

  2. Would an iron infusion rapidly fix low iron and ferritin in time for the first trimester?

MORE PICS ON MY PROFILE
21F 5’6 145lbs, not smoking, this appeared sunday august 30th but this picture is from today sept 3rd.

i started feeling something in the back of my throat after sexual intercourse with my boyfriend and yes i sucked his wiener. i figured i scratched my throat or something but the next day i looked and saw this. we were trying to figure out what it was and i came across many STD’s and infections one of which being oral thrust but idk. the only way he would’ve given me an std is if he’s cheated (hence the throwaway account) bc we’ve been together for 3 years. i’ve debating posting this bc our relationship is perfect, like seriously perfect not fake perfect. i hope it’s literally anything else but i need to know.

i had a wisdom tooth removed about 3 weeks ago. was healing fine and then my neck got rlly stiff 2 weeks in so i went back and they prescribed me methyl prednisone steroid dose pack and i took the last pill on september 1st. not sure if that has anything to do with this but i figured id add it.

36M, 180cm, 75kg - diabetes symptoms

Hi guys, I'm a 36y, M, 180cm, 75kg. For the past 3-4 years I've felt constantly thirsty, hungry, shaky when I'm hungry and haven't been sleeping well because I need to pee so much during the night because of the water I need to drink due to being so thirsty. I wake up every morning extremely weak due to the hunger and thirst. I thought these symptoms would go away if I cut out alcohol (I was a nightly beer drinker for years) and changed my diet. It seems no matter what I do, I still wake up feeling that crazy thirst and hunger, no matter how much I eat for breakfast I still feel hungry. After I eat lunch I feel a bit full for a while (maybe 2 hours). My doctor suggested doing blood work and hba1c diabetes test, all the numbers came back good, I'm not diabetic, my thyroid is healthy, liver, pancreas, kidneys all doing well. He then suggested I see a psychiatrist, as all these symptoms could be due to stress. I have felt stressed before and it does affect my stomach and sleep, but once the stress is removed (either by switching jobs, going on holiday or taking benzos for a few days) those symptoms go away. I was put on an antidepressant and it changed nothing, all the symptoms were still there. The thirst, hunger and weakness feeling never seem to go away and I finally thought I had solved the problem when I read up on diabetes, as I basically have every symptom! But nope, on paper I'm perfectly happy. Does anyone have any advice? I really feel so hopeless.
