Most games are usually released in English, or if they support my native language, it's often just the text that's translated. And that's perfectly fine.

But CD PROJEKT RED goes the extra mile. They translate not only the game's text, but even the videos, banners, logos and other promotional material.

I first really noticed this with the Cyberpunk 2077 5th Anniversary video. Near the end, I was genuinely shocked when I saw the message in Czech: “Už je to pět let, děkujeme za společnou cestu.” (It's been five years, thank you for the journey.)

And now they're doing the same thing with Songs of the Past. Absolutely everything is localized, including the game logo and banner, with the Czech title “Písně minulosti” instead of simply keeping the English Songs of the Past.

It's such a small thing, but as a Czech player, it genuinely makes me happy.

This is one of the reasons I'll never stop loving CD PROJEKT RED. The way they treat and appreciate their Czech players is something I really value. <3

A 17 year old girl falls in love with a sorcerer. Culture of the time mean she is married off to an old Marquess, but she doesn't let go of her love. The Marquess dies, she births a son close enough after his death to be said to be his. But he's not. That son, overly-beloved of both parents, especially since sorcerers are supposed to be infertile, is given more freedoms than a child should be given. He turns into a right ass of a young adult who does right ass things and dies for his stupid actions. And from there we get The Description of a Monstrum or a Witcher, the raid on Kaer Morhen that killed all but two living witchers and destroyed their knowledge on how to prepare new Trial of the Grasses elixers, and therefore the slow death of the Witcher existence except for what Vesemir could cobble together after he returned to an empty Kaer Morhen with a new gaggle of foundlings.

My god.

Not to mention, learning why Roach is named Roach. Why Nenneke is so important to Geralt. Why the non-wolf Witchers exist. That Geralt always chose silence in awkward conversations. And Preston Holt. My heart. The choices that man made and was forced to make. And how desperately I want a pre-prequel of Vesimer and Holt's days at Kaer Morhen, before everything fell apart.

Maybe all of this was all in Sapkowski's head from the beginning. Or maybe he was rereading books prepping for a prequel and had some "holy shit I have to use that" moments. I don't care. Either way, Crossroad of Ravens is masterful. It grabs every thread that needs grabbing and then some. It explains things I'd accepted as not needing explaining. Probably my favorite book of the series and I am even more excited than I was to play Songs of the Past when it drops soon.

A couple of months ago I bought The Witcher 3: The Complete Edition and I added it to my backlog.

Since the remastered version was announced, I'm quite excited to play it but since I didn't play The Witcher 1 and 2, should I play it first or is it enough to see some videos on YouTube and so on?

Personally, I rather expect the elf to return at some point in the new trilogy; however, when CD Projekt Red's narrative director was asked about Iorveth during the DLC announcement, he replied that they had never forgotten him. We have to remember that CDPR often likes to play games with us—like posting the *Feast of Belleteyn* artwork a few months before the DLC announcement, or that letter from Dandelion’s cousin back around Valentine’s Day last year—so who knows?

Hi! I was playing the Witcher 2 as one does in 2026 when I had a mission to go see some important big wig in flotsam. Thought It'd be dumb to go in with 2 swords on my back so I unequip both my steel and my silver.

What I did not notice, and yes I realize how fucking dumb this is, I didn't just unequip them, I dropped them. Maybe I was high or something I don't know.

WELL After this event, I needed my swords again so I went to requip them only to find that they are completely gone and I have a total of 5 orens to my name. I have a broom at least?

The worst case scenario is I take side quests to build back my orens to buy new expensive swords but it's hard to do much killing with a broom. There has to be some kind of recovery feature right? I could reload the save but it was hours after I realized they were gone cause I was doing story shenanigans with no combat. Pls don't flame me If the answer is obvious, the witcher 2 already gives me a headache in other ways.

I was replaying The Witcher 1 and had completely forgotten about this detail, but I found it really strange that Dandelion doesn't ask about Triss, Yennefer, or Ciri.

We meet Triss at the very beginning of the game, and she has her own reasons and interests for not telling Geralt about Yennefer (as for Ciri, I have no idea) but at that point, Dandelion doesn't know any of this. He just sees Geralt, who everyone thought was dead, and yet, when Dandelion meets him, he only talks about Geralt's death and mentions his old hansa, but doesn't say anything about Triss, Yennefer, or Ciri.

The same thing applies to Zoltan. When Geralt meets him in Chapter 1, he doesn't really bring up anything about them either, other than the fact that Geralt was supposedly dead. And Zoltan was actually there with Geralt and the others before all of this happened.

I know it's probably just a narrative choice, since the writers had to introduce the story without immediately explaining everything from The Witcher books, but from a character perspective it feels really strange.

It's a small detail, but after knowing the whole story, it feels really weird when you replay the game.

Everything We Know So Far About The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past — Plus My Completely Unhinged Theories

Okay, so I’ve been going down the rabbit hole with The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, and I figured I’d put together everything we’ve learned so far in one place.

Most of this comes from interviews, previews, gameplay footage, and other details revealed so far.

Obviously, this is very early information. Things can change before release, and some of this is still based on interpretation rather than outright confirmation.

With that disclaimer out of the way…

Release Date

2027

We don’t have a specific release date yet, but I’m personally hoping for sometime in early 2027.

At what time does it take place?

It appears to take place following the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Blood and Wine.

What we're dealing with then is Geralt in the period after Blood and Wine, which is rather interesting, since this is, in effect, the continuation of Geralt's story from the first game.

Apparently, we're also being given a great deal more Dandelion.

Which brings me to…

The Story

The story leads Geralt to a place known as Letten, which seems to be inspired by both Tudor England and the landscapes of Poland and Slovakia in terms of its architecture and environment.

More importantly, Letten seems to be the place where Dandelion was born.

On the basis of what we have seen up to now, Dandelion went back to his home after his father died. However, there are still some aspects of the exact events that are unknown to us.

Geralt is present in Letten at the local Belleteyn festival.

That night he dreams about Dandelion.

In some way, Geralt's dream causes him to realize that Dandelion is missing.

It follows that Geralt sets out to find him.

He eventually arrives at Dandelion’s family home, where we meet several members of the bard’s family:

Dandelion’s grandmother — her name hasn’t been officially confirmed, although some previews have apparently referred to her as Astrid.

Gustav — Dandelion’s brother.

Lilia is Dandelion's cousin and is seen accompanying Geralt for part of the story, which might suggest she could be a love interest.

Finally, Geralt and Lilia go to a place known as the Garden of Thrones, a place that seems to be linked to the curse impacting Dandelion's family.

And it's there that things begin to become very Witcher.

The Family Curse

As Lilia says, this curse has existed from generation to generation.

There was a time when an ancestor of the family, called Count Humbert de Lettenhove, fell in love with a witch.

The inhabitants of Letten attacked the witch.

In response, Humbert put the people who had harmed her to death.

It seems that there is a kind of curse linked to Humbert, the witch, and the Letten family — though I am highly doubtful about the account of events which has been presented to us.

More on that later.

The New Monsters

We have also seen several new monsters.

Thornblooms / Thorn Flowers

They are, in effect, hostile plants that do not move and instead attack anything that comes too near with their huge, thorny outgrowths.

I already know that I'm going to hate them.

It is very annoying to be facing an enemy who is merely sitting there waiting for you to stroll into its killing garden.

Swarmions

They are creatures that resemble humans, and their shields seem to be made of hornets or wasps.

It seems that the shield cannot be easily removed in normal combat, and instead you have to use the new chain weapon from the DLC to get rid of it.

That's a cool way of introducing a new weapon mechanic by means of an enemy.

The Slumbering Knight

This is one of the major boss encounters.

The Slumbering Knight is basically a skeleton with roots growing all over it, and it is able to block Geralt's attacks while at the same time using the roots as weapons.

In the end, Geralt succeeds in defeating it by cutting off one of its arms.

And then we get the reveal:

The Slumbering Knight is Count Humbert de Lettenhove.

The cursed ancestor himself.

It does feel like something out of a fairy tale, which I do wonder if that’s going to be a vibe the DLC is going for

The Part I’m Most Interested In: Geralt and Dandelion

This is the part I am most excited about.

Dandelion has, for a long time, mainly been included in the games as a source of comic relief; he is funny, ridiculous, vain, dramatic, and generally seems to have gotten involved in Geralt's life with the intention of causing trouble.

There’s another aspect of Dandelion that I truly hope this expansion looks into.

The books contain some quite philosophical discussions between Geralt and Dandelion.

Dandelion is more than just the comic relief bard.

He is a poet, an artist, and a storyteller.

Beneath all the ridiculous aspects, there is a highly introspective person who thinks deeply about people, history, art, love, and the stories we tell ourselves.

The name being given to this expansion, Songs of the Past, makes me wonder whether or not we're finally going to get to see more of that aspect of him.

And honestly?

I really hope so.

Now For the Conspiracy Theories

That's where I cease pretending that I have evidence.

Everything below is speculation.

I don't know if any of this is actually going to happen.

But I have thoughts.

Theory #1: The Witch Possesses Dandelion

This is the theory I consider most important right now.

I believe the witch will take possession of Dandelion.

Hear me out.

The story begins with Geralt discovering Dandelion missing, and a very old curse involving a witch, a massacre, and Dandelion's ancestors.

What if Geralt initially believes he’s searching for the witch…

...only to find that the witch has been using Dandelion as her host?

It would create a pretty interesting scenario in which Dandelion could act as the apparent antagonist of the story, even though he wasn't actually responsible for what he was doing.

That is, if the expansion focuses on the relationship between Geralt and Dandelion, it could create intense emotional tension.

Picture the situation in which Geralt has to fight Dandelion yet knows that Dandelion is not actually himself.

Even worse, suppose Dandelion is fully conscious of what is happening yet unable to prevent it.

I am already getting emotionally ready to endure it.

The “Good” Ending

Geralt manages to free Dandelion from the witch's control and end the family curse.

Everyone survives.

Happy ending.

The “Bad” Ending

Geralt finds that the only means of putting an end to the curse is to kill Dandelion.

Again:

I have no proof this will happen.

But it's The Witcher.

Making Geralt have to choose between saving his oldest friend and putting an end to the supernatural threat forever is precisely the kind of awful decision CDPR would enjoy presenting to us.

Theory #3: The Curse Story Is Wrong

This one seems far more probable.

The first thing we'll receive is one version of the curse.

And then Geralt investigates.

And investigates.

In the end, he finds out that the story everyone has told for generations isn't entirely true.

Or maybe it's completely false.

I would be shocked if the first explanation we receive isn’t the complete truth.

There is very likely yet another aspect to this.

Theory #4: The Title Is a Clue

The expansion is called:

Songs of the Past.

Dandelion is a bard.

So here’s my theory:

At the beginning, Dandelion intended to write a song about his family's history.

He learns Something about his family that he was never supposed to know.

Something important enough that somebody — or something — wants to keep it buried.

And that investigation eventually leads to his disappearance.

This would give Dandelion a personal reason to get involved in the story while also making the title directly relevant to the plot.

Final Thoughts

That is all I have been able to put together up to now, together with the theories that are currently buzzing in my mind.

Please do not regard my theories as leaks or as confirmed information.

I’m just speculating.

I also saw some clips on TikTok of a live stream that the developer did, talking about the game, including an interview with Doug Cockle(Geralt's English voice actor) and John Schwab(Dandelion's English voice actor)

Edit: Since bad endings are very rarely cannon When I wrote the theory that the “bad ending” would be Dandelion's death, similar to Ciri’s bad ending in the main storyline of The Witcher 3.

Quote from a CD Projekt representative: "Fool’s Theory team is focused mainly on the development of Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, while a relatively small part of their team is supporting the development of The Witcher 4. As we have previously announced, the development on The Witcher Remake has been temporarily integrated with The Witcher 4 due to production process dependencies. Geralt is a masteful swordsman who frequently took on beings for coin. Unlike Odysseus, Geralt is already accustomed to dealing with physical beings that most people would consider impossible to kill. He is experienced at surviving in hostile environments and recognizing otherworldly threats. If Geralt somehow ended up as part of Odysseus crew would the long physical journey take a toll on Geralt and how far do you think he would make it?

I've just finished reading the books today and, as a way to get over the emotional damage, I wanted to pick up the show and/or the games, but I had a few questions I'm rather confused with, even after I did some googling.

Regarding both the games and the show:

Where do they fall in the Witcher timeline? I understand the tv show should cover the books plot (if it's finished), but from bits I've seen from the games, it seems to be going in a different direction. Is it a different plot from the books?

Regarding the games:

I'm a noob gamer who has a PS5 as a decorative piece, basically. I heard that there have been some recent upgrades and freebies but I find navigating the store hard as hell. I do have a friend who can lend me a copy of their games (either for PS5 or PS4, which I understand I should still be able to play). Will I be able to download this new content despite my friend already doing it on her console?

Also, can I simply pick up the 3rd game and continue from there? I am definitely a story/lore player over a gameplay player, so I'd hate to find myself in the middle of a story I can't understand because I'm missing two games worth of background.

Lastly, I know you can make your own choices regarding romance and some side quests, but is the main story branching or does it have a main "canon" path?

Regarding the show

Did it have a reboot after Cavill left, or did they simply recast Geralt but carried on the same plot?

Finished the book in 6 days while on vacation.

Second to last chapter begins with the quote from Machiaveli :
"For it must be noted, that men must either be caressed or else annihilated; they will revenge themselves for small injuries, but cannot do so for great ones; the injury therefore that we do to a man must be such that we need not fear his vengeance.".

I know the point at the end is Geralt is no longer driven by retribution and helps the children against the monster and he leaves Meritxell to escape.

Do you think Meritxell can hypothetically try to strike against anyone related to Geralt considering this quote. Was his revenge against the other two merca enough of a message? I doubt we will hear a second time about a secondary or even tertiary background character is another novel, but just a thought.

Anyway I loved the book. The Bulgarian translation is superb, we have very thorough historical lookup explanations of fencing, clothing and military terms. Folklore about monsters and some herbs are familiar.

We left home at 1 a.m. so we could be ready at the location by 4 a.m. We were there to catch the first rays of sunlight, and we also added some smoke to create a special atmosphere against the backdrop of the sunrise. It was an absolutely unforgettable photoshoot. 💜
