Do you think it is possible to make a webshop that looks like this, but has a modern payment gateway?

I tried this as a side gig in the past but it took so long and I needed to charge more than my clients would agree too. How do you justify the price/ how do you do it without spending too much time?

Its very important to start with this: This guy is/was an AMAZING designer. Our SaaS looked genuinely amazing and unique; every aspect of UX was always the priority and done flawlessly. It went to a point where emails praising our whole user experience and UI were common. Same goes for anything else related to our branding and marketing; hell he even chimed in on some great company shirts.

Its started falling apart a year or two ago, when llms started being "good".

He became obsessed with Claude. Every workflow is now a "Claude project", every design system is now an "AI design system", every decision and every thought is run through an LLM, every api is now an mcp.

When we get on a call, and lets say i ask him a question, he opens Claude on screen share and just asks it the question, fully relying on the result.

Not everything above is inherently bad; if the resulting product is good, workflow can be whatever is easiest. But the product is NO LONGER GOOD. Every single design and component we make these days looks exactly like a vibe-coded website made by a 15yo.

He no longer designs, he just asks claude for a design, and is somehow amazed by it and genuinely thinks its good. So we just ship it to prod. How this is happening for a guy with his experience and feel for design, i have no idea.

We are losing branding; we are regressing each day. There is no style guides (that arent for agents), no unique components, not even brand colors or any deep research that used to go into all that. It just whatever claude spits out and approves, with minimal tweaking.

As a closing thought, this is also not a guy who is just "checked out" at work; I can even respect that to a degree. This is someone who still works 8hours+ and is beyond active and collaborates with every team. The only thing that worsened is everything he outputs, and it's all AI generated.

I expect this type of story from people who were never good in the first place, or for people who just stopped caring. But for someone with genuine talent, its heartbreaking.

Just a quick story, no real point to it, nor am I expecting any advice (its not my problem to solve), just wanted to share it.

I'm being judgmental right now. I think a good web designer can make it at least work when the color scheme or logo is crappy. But... do you tell a client? Or do you just roll with it?

I’ve been working on St. Louing, which is a personal project to explore and document St. Louis. I recently updated it to have a newspaper aesthetic so I can take pictures and highlight them along the front page.

I’ve integrated aspects of the St. Louis flag (red, with blue squiggly rivers and a yellow Fleur de Lis) to try to make it fun and unique as well.

I’m happy with how it’s coming out so far. Looks better on desktop but I tried to make it as mobile friendly as possible.

It’s also very functional (built with Astro) and interlinks neighborhoods, food, and tags. The neighborhood and food pages also have maps and lists.

I got my degree in college related to ui/ux design and programming. But I don't see a reason to use it anymore both as in a career or hobby. I like like designing and programming though. I don't want my years in school to be a waste. Any advice?

When you want an AI coding tool to build something that looks a specific way, what do you actually do? Not asking about prompting in general. Specifically the visual part when you have a look in your head, or a reference you like, and the output comes back generic.

What do you normally do? Paste screenshots? Describe it in words? Write a specific md file? Give up and do it yourself?

And where does that stop working, like is it fine for one page and bad for a whole app, or bad from the start?

No shortage of comments, both online and even from friends and family telling me that AI will put my web agency out of business. I'm expanding. Just hired two more marketers and another graphic designer to handle 5X the clients since I can create better quality sites in a fraction of the time. AI will not put web agencies out of business. Only the agencies that don't learn it.

I have been developing a personal site, which is straightforward and quite pleasing to me. The sole issue is the film index page; the list seems misplaced, whereas I prefer the cinematographer page.

My question is whether thumbnails or a list would be better for a film index.

Some sites look polished but still feel generic. What details make the difference?

If anyone was building sites using Claude, you know that it was a lot of prompts, and using the correct prompts before seeing the design, then having to re-prompt all changes. Now, Claude has the /design function. Give Claude a brief description of a site you're looking to build, tell it how many different design options you want it to create. I picked 2, you can have as many as you want. Click the design you like best, design panel opens to the right - make all of your changes; fonts, spacing, colors, everything. So now you get to see a finished design before having Claude actually create the site. Game changer for me.

I woke up today with the idea of having a web design agency, I have no website of my own I only have a phone and a Idea. I sent roughly about 8 personalized messages to clients in my niche (construction, plumbers) people with high expectations for clients. Most of them didn’t had a website or the website was broken or outdated. This is just to show, just do it. My appointment tomorrow might not end in a sale but it will teach me experience. I expect better luck tomorrow, yep this this on a Sunday, one guy was pissed and called it unprofessional, but remember I am not an agency.

I am currently developing a website dedicated to unreleased albums, with each album featuring multiple versions (e.g., Yandhi). I am seeking expertise in UI design, specifically individuals proficient in CSS, HTML, and JavaScript, to provide guidance and support.

During the years I've changed my workflow a bit depending how new tools came along and I thought about asking other designers how's yours now.

what's your workflow and what tools do you use when you start the actual design process or create a website?

personally, after I got a brief or put together one with requirements and some idea of what I'm gonna create I collect some references and plan the interface. from there I jump into figma to design my screens and elements. Then I prototype and depending on the project I might leave it at that (after revisions) or continue to build the site if it's a web project.

what's your current process? like, in your last project what did you actually do?

What did you start with, which tools did you move through, and what did you end up making?

In the old days I used to do more or less the same things but I used to look at a lot more inspiration blogs and then use photoshop or illustrator to design.

Lately I've also experimented with AI tools like figma make, claude design or lovable. they come in at different stages of the workflow but I'm starting to see them as useful. I know there are many but I haven't got the time to try others.
